The thing is Yuma steps out of his 4Loop and will get positive GOE, he isn't much less overscored than Nathan lol I believe bronze is still possible, much possible. But silver and gold, nope both are faves. Shoma is planning a 5 quad layout? Huh didn't expect that. The only planned program content I've seen is Yuzu's and it's still bonkers to see 4A there
February 8, 20224 yr Tbh, I'm glad that Yuzu went and touched the spot on the ice with the hole on it, like, he knows people are photographing him and that crater of a hole would be captured as proof. So people wouldn't say he's making excuses when he spoke up as this is not the first time it's happened. We trust him, but others don't and will create some other rubbish narrative out of this. He knows he's been doing the right thing, and he wants people to know that it's not his own condition that caused the mistake. I mean, it's not really important what other people say or think, but it's nice to give them nothing to say if he can (though they will anyway). He's been creating his own narratives for a while.
February 8, 20224 yr ALSO if he does manage to podium - I think if we're lucky the narrative won't be solely on 'hanyu losing his title' - it'll be 'yuzuru hanyu does the impossible, fights for podium spot after less than stellar short program' at least, one can hope that that would be the narrative

You have ID teams that can't skate getting top marks. Pairs teams that can't skate either and are barely managing to life their partners or keep from bashing their skulls on the ice. Idk wtf I'm watching in women but I know that I'll see a different jumping bean win every year with the same uninspired choreo and miming courtesy of Dany G. & Co. The men have always been shit, but this is a special kind of drivel topped with whatever usfsa thinks reviving that lame ass Goebel/Weiss/Stojko combo is a good idea to revive ratings. It can all go to hell. The only media FS has is based on some dude that tweets out protocols and two blithering idiots with stale takes from the 80s on YouTube. why would the average person wanna watch this Mickey Mouse bs? I hope it's the worst men's Free skate comp of all time. I hope it's slippery. I hope there's pops, falls, and the like. I hope it's so bad that in the future nobody remembers the damn Beijing results. I hope yuzu gets his moment and it's the one that sticks in history. everybody else can bite it on hard ice.

I'll do it in the morning cause it's late here and doing it takes a bit of brain power, but I'll figure out Nathan, Shoma and Yuma FS BV and run it against Yuzu's to try get some guesses for placings

I wouldn't be too worried about that. Even commentators like Kurt Browning noted that something was fishy about that take-off: This is actually the most devastating thing about this SP. He was so well prepared. In the best physical (and maybe even mental) shape he's ever been. And now, when he finally had a serious chance to skate a completely clean competition, it was bad luck that stopped him from succeeding. If there are gods of fate, I really feel the need to kick them all in their butt. This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
February 8, 20224 yr Hi fellow fanyus, I just wanted to drop some lines here to share my feelings with you. I woke up in the middle of the night just to watch Yuzu's performance, closed my eyes for the second after salchow mistake and then enjoyed the beautiful, peaceful and perfect rest of his routine. Even with such a difficult opening he was able to produce the magic right to the end. let me imidiately abandon all "competition related thoughts" and take me into the story. There's no other skater like him and I guess never will be, surely not soon, at least for me, no matter how many points others will get. I didn;t continue to watch, went back to sleep and only check the result in the morning. Maybe I'll catch up later, as there are many other skaters I like and they did well, but to be honest, I have no feelings to the competition aspects at all. I'm just so grateful that I once again have a chance to watch Yuzu on the ice bringing his highest available form and efforts. For me, points do not matter this time. He could have left in the glory 4 years ago, but still gave us those another 4 years to experience his skating. And -I think - personal cost of that for him was much higher, than the previous years of training. I truly appreciate that. For now, my attitude is to watch his performances, focus only on that, enjoy that as a tribute to my all time most inspiring athlete and unique person and ignore all the factors that can distract me (like commentary, media coverage etc.). Maybe in the future, after some rehab I will be able to come back to watch and enjoy men field holistically, but for now, as long as Yuzu is still competing, I don't have so much space in my heart to focus on others, sorry not sorry I wish him good recovery and hope he can go for the free in the good form and high spirit and produce the skate he can be happy with and let us be in the same place with him. Once again, so glad to see him skate!

February 8, 20224 yr I really feel like in cases like this, where it's very clearly not the fault of the skater, there should be precedence to alter the score such as adding the BV of the jump on to the skaters program score. But, as always, under the current judging methods, there's no way to implement such measures without it being abused by skaters in the name of points

He has a huge lead from the short and knows that the judges will back him up. Even if he falls, he'll have PCS + GOE cushion. As many have said before, that is probably the main reason why he's gained consistency this past quad, besides the fact that his programs are empty af. If anything, he should feel even more confident after this, now that his one other contender, Yuzu, is down at eighth. Nathan would have to try really hard not to win gold at this point. Right. I agree. But I think if Yuzu does a 2017 World's FS type of clean that would put a pressure on him Also skating last at the last group in itself is a huge pressure + having the pressure to win his first OGM is a pressure too. And Nathan doesn't have the strongest mentality nor consistency in the group. And knowing what he did at PC 2018 SP twice, I don't believe he has it in him to skate perfect under olympic pressure. + his nationals FS wasn't clean.. I'm a bit worried about Yuma. Knowing he is the most consistent in the pack and the youngest out of the podium contenders. I wish him silver but I get the feeling he will be crowned OGM and Yuzu won't get his 3rd OGM.
