Why not attempt 4Lo rather than 4A? I thought his 4Lo had better success rate.

Because 4A is his dream, his sole reason for continuing to compete. We are in no place to tell him what to do. Especially to someone who has already won everything and has the legacy of a GOAT.

I disagree here.

With the mistake in the SP he has no reason play safe. He has nothing to lose anymore and this is the absolute best opportunity for him to bring the 4A with the hardest layout he can do. If he fails, it can't make the situation worse than it already is, but if he succeeds, he has a serious chance to win the free and make the podium. A +220 score would put very big pressure on the rest of the field, especially Yuma and Shoma.

I don't disagree with you necessarily, but is 220+ even probable to hope for in these circumstances? Not Yuzu, judges really. Bear in mind I dunno what his BV with this layout skating clean would be off the top of my head, something around 94 maybe?

His base value with the planned 4A and 3A+3Lo is much higher than last season. If he manages to pull that miracle off, the judges cannot give him anything less than 220.

The 215 that he got at JNats 2020 was so criminally underscored already that even this panel his can't do him more dirty.

Actually anyone know the clean BV of this planned layout? I have a program on my laptop that can calculate it for me but it's flat and I'm very tired

Because we have never seen a clean 4A landing in comp, I think a clean FS in unlikely.

A clean FS boosts PCS scores to the max. That is the thing about figure skating..

A clean FS is better than a higher base score unclean FS. I think deep down Yuzu knows this but maybe not having coaches around and wise words of advice around is hurting things alot. I'm sad he might not podium.. and more sad that I don't think landing a 4A for the first time with olympic pressure is something any human can do.

The best we can hope for is the last group on the FS to make 2 or more jump mistakes on the quad or 3A and Yuzu to skate clean without 4A at the last minute. That way he might have a chance to medal

I tell you something: with the layout from last season, with 4Lo and 3A+2T, he won't score over 210, even if clean. And the judges won't give him higher PCS than 95-96, especially now that he skates in the second to last group.

With a miracle 4A fluke and a clean skate he at least has the virtual chance of PCS above 97 and TES above 120.

EDIT:

And a successful 4A is pretty much the only thing that still could steal everyone's show at these Olympics.

Taking the 4A out now - in this situation - would make people call him a coward who made a big fuss about this jump for nothing.

Having the courage to try a 4A at the Olympics would make him a hero, whatever the outcome is.

I think you're assuming too much about his goal at this Olys. He explicitly stated he didn't really feel the Olys pressure. He's here cuz he loves skating and wants to show off his skate, not for the scores or medals. Of course he aims to win, but now that that seems far away, he can solely focus on his goal for the past few years, 4A, the last landmark in his journey and legacy. A non-medaled Olys will not change that. Case in point, people still talk more about Yuzu and what happened in his skate and his remaining chances rather than the current top placed skaters with one so called WR.

The judges have always given high PCS to Yuzu when he skated perfect clean programs. It's something no one can deny because when Yuzu skates clean it becomes a historical figure skating moment. It's magical. There really is nothing like it. Considering all his clean programs and his WRs, Yuzu shines the most when he skates clean.

Say even if he lands 4A, and the rest of the program isn't clean he won't win OGM unless last group mucks up real bad.

Yes, exactly! And the 4A is his dream, as he's stated repeatedly. This is how he stays true to himself, fulfills his greatest wish, and can potentially skate a legendary performance that will go down in history regardless of how the judges score him. :2thumbsup:

Then maybe put 4A as his 2nd or 3rd jump so he can get confidence with his more safer jumps? Where is Brian when Yuzu needs him. Why isn't he with Yuzu before he goes out to skate?

Also not landing 4A and not medaling will hurt so much... I'm desperately hoping for bronze at this point

Okay so I decided screw it and worked out his planned BV anyway and if I've done it correctly, if he gets all level 4 spins/step and fully clean jumps the BV is 98.3, significantly higher than I thought. 4A< but rest clean is 95.18, and clean but 4A<< is 93.8. I don't know how that stacks up against Kagiyama/Chen/Uno but if he skates clean except for 4A and anyone messes up a jump element  he could possibly be in for a fight to at least podium.

No options there. The program is constructed in a way that the 4A must be the opening jump. The entry rhythm and required space doesn't fit the 2nd or 3rd position. Also, the 4A is physically the most demanding jump and the later you attempt it, the bigger is the risk to fail and get severely injured.

We did see at JNats already that he's capable to skate clean after the 4A. It's not that much of a miracle as it appeared a year ago. The 4A itself is the key to success here.

If someone could write here Yuma and Nathan planned content I can check the BV and how Yuzu stacks up against it
