February 9, 20224 yr I find it odd many people still think Nathan doesnt have a tough mentality. I understand yes he has been given candies so that could boost his mental strength plus Yuzu hadnt done well enough. But he does have nerves like any of us but he has been able to deliver time to time over the last years with high tech jumps. I have to give him some credits for that. He has proven to very consistent at landing at the least 4 quads in a competition. Thats consistent enough. Can also change up layouts on a whim. If you look at the stats the only times he really didnt do well were during gp seasons and occasionally a few programs. Nothing comparable to how inconsistent Yuzu or Shoma were over the last years. Its odd to say Yuzu is consistent and can withhold pressure while saying Nathan isnt. Its not pre 2018 anymore. on a diff topic - this olympics is like any other olympics. They give new wr out like candies, russia being corrupted, politics drive the scores...i expected it just that it came with more curveballs like covid and injuries. Such a way to crush dreams.

A third Olympic appearance was like an extra bonus, given the condition of his right ankle. For that reason, I've had no expectations of him this round. Just happy to see him again. So, here's my fantasy retirement career for Yuzu: the ISU crumbles under the weight of scandals, he steps in at the head of it and reforms and revives FS for the benefit of everyone involved and we all live happily ever after.

I was optimistic that he will go on for at least one more season but watching his practice today, I have this strange feeling that he might not. Honestly, it looks like he hasn't overcome from the SP misfortune and the failure in landing 4A is not helping at all. My prediction self is very gloomy now. If he goes off-podium, I fear he will announce the r-word

Japanese fans are already on it because it's nikkansports. It seems this started on reddit when someone claimed Fanyus blamed Mozalev for the hole and sent him death threats. The poster had no receipts whatsoever and somehow a big Jpn newspapers decided to added more to the story and spread it further. Spoiler https://twitter.com/blupuddy/status/1491414960345608193?s=19

He was asked abt it sometime in 2015 or 2016 when he expects to retire, Yuzu said when he's 23. Cos at the time he thought by 23 his body can't take it anymore. As you know, Yuzu's been battling ankle injuries for many years. His senior debut in WC 2012, he was injured, hence did not perform well in the SP. Made a comeback in the FS to win bronze, while taking painkillers.

The situation back then is still tolerable but now the ISU clownery is getting out of hand. It pains me to admit this but no matter how amazing he is, u have to admit his age and past/current injuries are slowly catching up to him. It is obvious in his skating. You can tell.

But 4A is risky so it causes frequent damages. One non-ideal open practice after a big misfortune, doesn't define him. All I see in his skating and jumps is improvement. Even his consistency is better than before.
February 9, 20224 yr I don't know...If Yuzuru manages to skate really well tomorrow he might end up on the podium which would a nice end to his career, but I doubt (though I hope) he's able to land a ratified 4A, so perhaps he'd like to try one more time at the Worlds..? Or perhaps this is just wishful thinking on my part.
February 9, 20224 yr Hi everyone! I've been a fanyu for a few years and have been following this place ever since (but finally made an account to write this haha). When I was going through a tough period, feeling unmotivated, uninspired and lost, Hanyu came into my life. Saw him skating at 2018 Olympics and felt his program through my bone. That passion, determination and confidence was inspiring. Then his crash with Han Yan made me heartbroken but also super impressed at his perseverance. To this day, I hold his words close to my heart, "Efforts will lie, but it will never be in vain." This is the first Olympics that I watch Hanyu live and followed really closely for his practices etc. And gosh, I wasn't ready for the intensity and the stressfulness of this whole situation. Sure, my husband, mom and aunt have all become Hanyu's fans but they don't feel the pressure as strongly as I do. Before he arrived in Beijing, I couldn't sleep because I kept praying that he's all good and will make it here to (possibly) his last Olympics. I would have traveled to China to watch him in flesh -- it's been a dream of mine but we know the situation now sigh. And then when he finally appeared at the airport, I stress over his gloomy expressions. Then it was the stress of whether he can land the 4A in practices and I think the last straw for me was the stupid hole for the SP. Right after his program I couldn't function at work and lost my appetite. And as we wait for the FP tmr, I feel like my world has come to a pause and I'm waiting for that specific moment when he bows to the audience before I can break out of this strange trance. Nothing seems to excite me other than Hanyu news, all I want to do everyday is to watch videos of him. But then I told myself, being able to be feeling what I am feeling right now is also a privilege that Hanyu has provided. Because someone as brilliant as him exists, I am able to feel the adrenaline in my blood -- I feel alive for once and I thank him for that. Whether tomorrow turns out to be historical or not, nothing can erase the joy and positivity Hanyu has brought into my life. (Sorry for the long post, Im really glad to finally be able to let out these pent up emotions.) Give it your best shot tomorrow, Hanyu! And as always, please stay safe. We've got your back!
