  1. I can't believe we let this thread went almost to the 3rd page. Alice, on Notte Stellata, esp. on why some commentators claimed it to be a masterclass in figure skating. Beside, of course, the obvious: Zu was skating it.
  2. @Winnie_20 I recognise your sweater. This is you, right?
  3. If Zu doesn't go to Beijing, I'd be content to hear commentators now have to say "No one has won OGM back to back in men's figure skating since Yuzuru Hanyu did it in 2014 and 2018". If Zu goes to Beijing, he will win, and then the comment will sound similar, but with "three consecutive OGM" instead.
  4. Your reactions are all along the same line
  5. Zu's counter causes him to enter his 3A without changing foot. Unless you're talking about his FS 3As, in which case other skaters enter their 3A like that too. The 3A entered from the counter without change of foot is the one uniquely Yuzu's.
  6. This is what I imagine happened: Olympic channel twitter admins: 1 of them is a fanyu, I shall named FA (fanyu admin). the rest are admin1, admin2, let's say there are 3 of them. - During the lead up to PC - FA: Sooo, can I post about Yuzuru? This majestic creature that is also the King of figure skating? admin 1&2: No. admin1: He is not from North America! admin2: Or Europe! admin1: He is not manly! admin2: He looks like a girl! admin1: He brings a plushy, ffs! admin2: A pooh plushy! FA: but.. admin 1&2: no! - and there went the conversation everyday - admin 1: He is injured! admin 2: He did not win ANYthing this season! - until one day, FA got fed up - FA: Alright, here's the deal. If Yuzuru won Gold, I am posting one post about him for the rest of our time covering Olympics, that is, until the next Olympics - admin1&2, thinking that would never happen - admin1: Err, sure. admin2: Yep, let's shake on that. - And then PC happened, and Zu did that - FA: Oooooooh, what will I post today? Hmm... Let's see... Start simple. Yuzu's surviving 3.11, because it coincidentally the time!! Orser's interview! Ooooooh, his expressions to illustrate days of the week!!! - admin1&2 could only watch, clearly defeated - Nvm me, I am just trying to cheer myself up.
  7. Well, nope. I am at THE OFFICE, people! A hospital office! My coworkers think something is wrong when I started sobbing at my desk!! Yuzu must come with a warning: may induce tears, do not watch in public. Or something.
  8. Didn't Zu practically say that himself, when asked in an interview with the Japanese National Press Club? *still patiently waiting for a translation* He didn't exactly mention 4Lo, but he did say that if Chen's SP was not as poor as it was, he would have changed his FS layout. The changed layout would presumably include 4Lo for the sake of making his BV more competitive. I am sure I didn't deliriously imagine that answer *nervous laughter* Oh no! The bbys are trying to imitate our Bby's Seimei's opening pose I can't.
  9. Yuzuruhanyuedits on tumblr: post on GOE ft. the one and only. One thing I find interesting is that apparently at PC, while Zu received the most GOEs, followed by Fernandez, it was Jin that came in 3rd.
  10. When I was teaching, I did put my best students to a higher standard. But I built relationship with them first, so that they know and understand why I do it. So, if Zu's coaches, for example, put him on a higher standard, that makes sense. But for judges judging competition, NO. They are supposed to judge based on what is delivered at the moment it happens. Not based on potential, perceived abilities, reputations, and whatnot. I don't know exactly why the judges/tech panels do it, but it's so hard not to see it as nefarious in nature.
  11. Whoah, John Wilson Blade PR team. I am... impressed, I guess.
  12. You could say, I've been waiting for Alice to address the majority of the questions I still have lingering re: men's event at PC. Here. There's explanation with gifs re: Uno's FCCoSp in his FS (as opposed to Zu's lvl3 spin in his SP). There's explanation on how, if tech panels were less blinded to Uno's flawed techniques, Fernandez would have gone home with Silver, in addition to this post. There's explanation on why Zu was absolutely correct when he said even if Uno had landed that 4Lo (and even given the fact that the tech panel went easy on Uno), he would still have won. There's also an explanation of Zu's borderline UR on his 4T at SP - that wasn't called by tech panel but was penalised by the judges anyway, and why the step-out on the 2nd 4T at FS. (It's rather too early in the morning for tech talk for me, but hey.)
  13. These so-called journalists,,, and they wonder how 'fake news' gets tagged to them, too. Have some self respect, honestly. Or respect for your profession, at least. Since respecting athletes, your countrymen or otherwise, seems too far fetched apparently. Sorry, I actually have a lot of respect for journalism as a profession, so this kind of pathetic journalistic practices always manages to bother me. I'll do better next time. Ugh!
  14. I love that Ambesi predicts what my heart wants to happen 😎... err, except the ladies, but that's practically a given already. Well, of course. Leaking, sweating eyes early in the morning. Why not.
  15. Which is why sometimes I am rather baffled that he is insisting on having that jump, even when he upgraded his Lz. We all are in awe of the jump, of course. But BV-wise, and judges-being-fudges-wise the 3F really doesn't contribute much. ... But, if I were him, and I had spent many a year correcting what to me a naturally counter-intuitive edge of the jump, to the point of that jump is now one of the most intricate jumps in my arsenal, I wouldn't let go of the Flip either, no matter the cost. So, nevermind me.
  16. I am assuming the 3F is there instead of 3Lz, which has higher BV (although what's Zu 3Lz's GOEs compare to his 3F's?), because this boy of ours do not like skipping any jump type?
  17. We complain a lot about JSF, and then we have this. I googled this DG guy. You guys should have warned me,,, I mean, more than from what should be clear by this interview, that is. *nervous laughter* He was behind the Salt Lake's shenanigans, and then, and then had the audacity to bid for ISU president in 2015??????!!!!!!!!! Ewwwww, take him waaaaaay away from the skating world!
  18. Except for 1st place ladies, ID, and perhaps Pair as well, my 'prediction' is a bit of heart's wish combined with 'eh, maybe'.

Just sent in another one. I promise I didn't forget on purpose I should probably schedule it.
  20. I think this is more like a 'I know, I know, my ankle! I can't help it!' smile, aimed at his rapidly panicking coaches.
  21. Full disclosure, I am not a fan of Medvedeva, and often rather baffled by her results. You can check Alice's tumblr with Medvedeva's tag. Alice likes Medvedeva, but her explanation on her jumps are usually fair. Be aware, tho, that most of her posts on Medvedeva are answers to anons who seem to be haters. IMO, Medvedeva's jumping technique is nowhere near the best among the top ladies. People usually describe her jumps as more 'muscled' compare to the 'smooth' jumps of the likes of Mai Mihara, Carolina Costner, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (or used to be at least) or to the 'powerful' jumps of the likes of the top 2 Canadian, Wakaba Higuchi, Kaori Sakamoto. For me, her jumps just looked very forced, i.e. you can tell she uses all her might to execute her jumps, especially during the take-off. 3F3T comparison with Kaetlyn Osmond's, using Alice's gifs: That problem usually gets worse when she's jumping the 2nd and 3rd jump in combinations. Notice how much longer Medvedeva took to execute the 2nd jump compare to Osmond again. Then, there's the problem of pre-rotation and the usual under rotation of most ladies; although, in this regard, she does it about just as frequently as most ladies, even the tops. Part of it might be because she uses many and difficult transitions in and out of the jumps. But, as Zagitova and the junior skaters under Tutberidze have demonstrated, it is possible to do crazy transitions in and out of the jumps AND still have those jumps look 'pretty'; Medvedeva just doesn't have that. And hopefully, it's just 'not yet', and she will manage to fix it.
