2018/2019 Season Program Announcements
yuzupon replied to kaeryth's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
That was actually really nice of them. If only it's not that particular dress, tho. Cz it's so obvious. Anyway, I was just poking fun, cz I mean. Give Tsurkaya exactly what her training mate did last season, why not. It's not like there will be comparison happening at all or anything. -
2018/2019 Season Program Announcements

The real question is, are they going to give Tsurkaya Zagitova's dress? Like they did to Zagitova with Medvedeva's: ETA: This version of duck don quixote by Zagitova in her last junior year. (This year, they changed a bit.) -
This is the part that made me "Oh, hi there, lurker!!"
-
I feel you. It's the multi-dimensions of the man that is Yuzuru Hanyu.
-
He is hilarious. "Excuse me, I am passionate about research". I also died everytime the interviewer apologise for being the one Yuzu is touching. I bet she can feel the jealous eyes burning a hole in the back of her head
-
Interrupting the trip down memory lane: It's subbed. And I admit I am too lazy at the moment to find out the appropriate thread for this. Apologies, mods...

Alright, in a minute. If anyone else wants to know as well, pm-ing me directly will be fine. Aaaand, I hope you don't mind if I reuse the message I sent to other people. Also, what I will be telling you are my recollection of what happened back when I wasn't as actively involved (if posting about me melting at anything Zu did can be categorised as involved, that is). Some things I missed while wasn't paying attention are gathered from people who have been FS fans for almost longer than I've been alive or at least longer than I've been aware that this sport exists *nervous laughter* And really, you can and should recheck everything I wrote.
-
@WSYZ To be clear, I was never involved in the 'fight'. I was just watching with horror when it happened over in Yuzu fanfest of that other forum (and if that happened in the fanfest, it was way worse outside of it). So sadly, I haven't seen anyone who criticised him so fiercely wrote anything about turning around from that online. As for those who went right to the hating attitude, I kinda don't think they will ever change their mind, or if they do, hell would freeze before they admit it. That's just how sad it was. If anyone has heard otherwise tho, I would love to hear it. @cinemacoconut That's opening a can of worms I don't think anyone would want to. Read what @WSYZ wrote, that basically summarized the gist of it. I'll pm you with my take on it, just wait a bit, I have to finish something first. @ mods, I've been pm-ing some users about this ugly history lately. Part of it is because I raised said history itself to kinda put what's happening (Zu's closing message in CiONTU, the current onslaught of criticising potential rival's move) in context, and so new fans who were not around, or are not aware of the story understandably want to know about what on earth I was talking about. Should I stop doing either of those?

That's the thread @ralucutzagy suggested.

As for trying not to let your love for Yuzu overrule everything, think of it this way. That love overruling everything is why some of Chan and Takahashi fans become what they were when Yuzu start beating their beloved skaters. Don't. go. to. that. level.
-
This is one of the reasons I admire him so much. And he is right. It's not fun to win by default because you have weak opponents. The reason Yuzu stands out among the champions is not only what he achieved, but also how he achieves them against worthy opponents.

Yeah, funding might be one issue. But considering the popularity of the sport in Japan, it should be a fixable issue. And, it doesn't have to be sending skaters to train overseas. Anything, really, to motivate skaters to take up pairs. Also, I should add that I'm not necessarily fond of what seems to be a micromanaging of their skaters done by CSA. But I can see why it is needed, or preffered (all the issue with education and future post competitive carreer prospects). JSF, on the other hand, seems to just pick and back 1-2 skaters they have minted to be the 'new heirs' and send off the rest to fight in the arena, mortal combat style.
-
Yep. Sometimes, it scares me. I understand that most of it comes from the intense love we have for Yuzu, but boy it can be too much sometimes. Stating opinions is everyone's right. I just wish we all strive and seek to be more informed before we form, let alone state, our opinions. (Me at me: listen to yourself, will you?)
-
What I meant is about also developing other areas, not only singles. Japan is successful enough with their singles, and they do have good coaches who train their skaters to have good techniques. Well, with some exceptions, but it's not like all coaches in North America and Russia are perfect either. My point is more in the Ice Dance and Pairs. As opposed to CSA, who does a diagnosis of what they are lacking and makes good plans to overcome it, JSF seems to just don't care?? I am hoping it's just that they are doing something, but just are not announcing it. But, experiences with how they treat Yuzu, and their many amazing ladies (last season GP assignment anyone?)... Yeah...
-
I am looking at what CSA is planning on doing and what KSU is already doing, and then I look at JSF, and just ETA: KSU
-
Whoah! China wants them medals. Badly.
-
I know I shouldn't be shocked, but
-
Obviously, 2018 Worlds. Any injury is never a meltdown. It's an injury.
-
Which is exactly why it was always eyerolling moment for me. With Zagitova's arrival, and subsequent meltdown, the Ladies now is shaken up a bit.
-
That might be true as well. But what I've heard most about in the past two-three years is the comparison to Medvedeva. As in, 'Hanyu doesn't have Medvedeva's consistency'. The comparison to past male champions usually come up in the debate of who is GOAT. As in, 'I think Button is GOAT cz in his time everytime he competed there was never a doubt that he would win'. And to that point, the consistency of Yuzu vs. past male champions are still not being put into the context: of the depth of the field, and the 'despite' and 'also' points Alice raised. Hence, questionable as well.
-
There's Aliev, too. Re the bolded part. Indeed. And as Alice once said: If you insist on tagging on the but: but he didn’t win the free skate in PyeongChang, but he made mistakes both times at the Olympics, but he has been inconsistent and not completely infallible to losing, so on and so forth. Then I hope you are fully prepared to, after that, tag on the despite. Despite multiple career-threatening injuries, despite going into PyeongChang having restarted practice only mere weeks before, despite constantly facing pressure so great it is sheer unimaginable and almost inhuman to ask any normal young adult in their twenties to cope with (oh yes, don’t you ever forget that he was shouldering the expectation of an entire nation, because if you think that Nathan Chen was under too much pressure it affected his performance, then do consider that, had Nathan won Gold, he still wouldn’t have received a congratulation call from his head of state, even were the POTUS in power a decent human being who is competent at his job). But wait, there’s more, because after the but and the despite, there is the also that you should not miss out on, because winning 2 Olympic Golds is not everything Yuzuru Hanyu has done in the last Olympic cycle, far from it. He has also won 2 World Championships, medaled at two more, added 4 Grand Prix Final wins in a row to his resume, landed a quadruple jump nobody before him had succeeded in competition, stayed on top of the World Standings since December 2013. It was also from that date onward that every World Scoring Record in the men’s single discipline has been set and broken by him and him alone, 12 times. This is why, even if I personally would not care whether people agree he is GOAT or not, I get irritated anyway when they voice their reluctance to call him that. Because IF he had been American or European, they would have called him GOAT a long time ago. I'm hoping, now that the Ladies has been shaken up a bit in term of consistency, this would not be a problem again. Cz let's be real. The claim that he is inconsistent is not because they are looking at the men's field and compare him to his contemporary rivals. It's because they compare his results to Medvedeva's.
-
At the very least the politicking for them would get better... I guess. ... Idk. I'd really like to not be sceptical about this, and don't want to be like those who were (still are probably?) so adamantly opposing Zu's move to TCC after Nice. But, well. Arutunian isn't Orser. ... Wishing all the best for these 2 ladies tho. Please don't get burried

I see at least 3 that I have not seen from top skaters in awhile. ... And watch them get chosen by most top skaters next season. Me and jinxing. -
*insert Katniss' "I volunteer!" gif No, but seriously.
