I am late reacting to everything, cz I need my sleep to function in the office today. From the FCCJ's interviews. Standouts: I would like to say thank you for that, because you gave us the truth amidst all this nonsense we hear. — Mr Peter Langan, Director-at-large, The Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan Mr Langan, for that sentence, I forgive you for speaking sometimes too much. It’s often thought that people from Asia are perhaps at a disadvantage in expressive sports or sports which require this kind of expression and artistry. Therefore, I believe the fact that I was able to use this Japanese music for my program and achieve the gold medal using this music was really a historic step forward. From now, I hope that this can be an opportunity to lead to using more music from my own country or utilizing aspects of unique cultures in the music of competitions. — Yuzuru Hanyu, expertly deflecting questions on his music for next season, while turning everyone's attention to the unstoppable rise of Asian skaters and their cultures in figure skating. My child, what did we do to deserve you? What he basically said about how true artistry can only be developed by having correct technique for everything and executing them correctly. (I can't find an easily quotable text.) Bby, you tell them! I hope everyone listens: ISU, judges, tech panels, coaches, skaters, AND audiences. He even answered the heavily loaded political question so adeptly! I mean, I knew that this person whom I admired so much has good qualities, but this is going beyond. I'm waiting for a proper translation of his answers to these 'what if' nonsense. Can't wait to admire him even more. p.s. I am with @CupidsBow about his personal life. I consider myself to be vastly privileged that Zu has deemed us mere mortal worthy of his performances and public life. And for that invitation to enjoy those, I am content. There are also personal experiences with the kind of curiosity that tend to go out of hand, but those are details.

Basically what I think about the Zu's 'underscoring' thing. Scores he received alone are fine, but when looking in comparison to the rest of the field, he IS being underscored in that it means everybody else is being overscored. (The same with the ladies, especially the Japanese ladies + those who are not from giant feds. The only difference is, while Yuzu still somewhat holds his fate in his hand - thank goodness -, those ladies don't )

There's a link to the NBC coverage where the Biellmann was full body. It's in the Gala thread.

Slightly but it's too funny for my sleep-deprived brain, I have to share. A tumblr mutual who has only just discovered Yuzu this Oly: "A question: why do you tag your posts of him with 'f***'s sake'? I mean, yes, yes, saaaame. But why exactly?" Me: *took awhile to process* I tag the posts with 'fs' for 'figure skating', I cannot

Admin, lovely new theme! Tho, at the moment I am using "Olympic Dreams", the soft purple/blue is really soothing.

The Hague Challenge Cup 2018 Gold: Wakaba Higuchi Silver: Rika Hongo Bronze: Marin Honda Congrats!!! Source: I took the picture

Sh*t!! How. Also, that's why the knee was bothering him in ACI. But, what. is. this. Zu!!!! Well, at least he knows that. Not only to be on the same level as your senpai, Uno. But also for any hope for a relatively pain-free future beyond skating. Bby, glassy eyes. I can't.

I'm gonna take that as a payment for them having a day of rest in between SP and FS, which the other 3 disciplines did not get.😅

We are all the skaters and media 'whoah'-ing.

I am dying

That's what I thought, too. Esp. after the individual podiums so far I mean, technically, it was meant to encourage federations to somehow train strong skaters across disciplines, but look at it.

Yep to all this. It's ok to be sad, I too am sad about this. But let's also be real. If this is how devastated we are when it's Fernandez, I think we need to start crowdfunding for the therapy we'll need when 'the inevitable' happens.

Same sentiment still applies. And there's a fine line between being salty and being mean. I am just reminding us before we cross the line.
-
Okay, remember when we have to deal with fans who are mean to younger skaters that are trying to surpass their favourite? Don't become like them. ETA: I've been informed that the skater who attempted it was older than Yuzu. Fair enough. Same sentiment still applies.

I saw the Uno one after the medal ceremony, and thought, LMAO, he is so small, he doesn't need to crawl, just bow a bit.

This is part of the reason I am going 'lalalalalalala' while stuffing my ears when people are still even as much as questioning whether Zu is GOAT. I don't know how people can be deliberately dumb sometimes. For us, it's clear. Adjusting the inflation of talents (a.k.a the deep of the fields in men's FS) and the technical difficulties (jumps and precise requirements of other elements), how can they even compare what Zu has achieved with the past achievements?? "When it was Dick Button, every competition he enters everybody knows he was going to win". For me, that means the field was not as deep as today's. "Others had won more WCs". Again, with the same depth of field and height of tech difficulties? No. But as @meoima said several pages ago, if Yuzu had been a north american or european, there would have been a bazillion headlines essentially screaming "TRUE G.O.A.T.: YUZURU HANYU OF USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" (for example) running for daaaaays, now. I just can't with these people. I should take some chill pills and ignore the largely western-centric, past-clinging media and 'FS personalities'.

Re: national biases in judging, this is what I said in the event threads: If you see the way the judges judge the ID, your head will explode. Not recommended. I am glad that the Chinese judge for Men FS is under review, if that is accurate. But why is the US judge not under review as well? What they did was exactly the same, why is one being 'punished' while the other not? Someone answer me.

This thread is impossible to follow, and my editor refused to cooperate with me when I want to reply by quoting too many people (is this a problem for other users, too?) Under spoiler cz it's a word vomit.

Zu's explaining how to do the travelling camel entry to his spin if gif. Apparently, he told Suzuki, "You tried it, right? I saw it!", and she was of course surprised. Also, this means, dear lurker Zu, any sign any time now, perhaps?
-
It's the whole thing. From the comments, apparently the male moderator asked Zu "You think you are cool, don't you?" and Zu answered, "Yes, I think so". With that voice, and the nose-scrunching to the point of eyes disappearing.

I can't breathe. Well, of course. Only the most special for our boy. That's true. When it's coming, we'll be bald. or dead. or both. I was going to say the same thing, too. I mean, there are comments on the instagram saying 'he repeats the program for 3 years, that's why I cannot congratulate him on his win', which just makes me 'whew, literally anything to justify your bitterness, isn't it, people?' But for casual Oly viewers, and even commentators apparently, they don't remember. So, ok then.

I am actually kinda suspicious about that, since you know this boy puts a delay rotation into his 4Lz. I wonder if this is just Zu being an overachiever again, and so the 1/4 more rotation is just because he wanted to make sure it's exactly 1620 degree. While Max and Miki probably were just 'that's enough rotation according to the rule'. I mean, Zu's by-the-book approach to tech elements is why he is crowned as the possessor of 'technical omnipotence', but you know. Oh, she said far more than what I wrote. But it's a rather rambling gushing, in which she was also distracted by the Pooh rain. I was basically 'Gees, okay, calm down a bit, I can't understand everything you're saying. Pick a language (we both speak 3 languages, but it's rather dizzying when all are used), use complete sentence!'

As great as this article is, even Waseda can get basic info wrong. Zu is not 'only the 2nd in history', and Button is not the 1st either. I'm being picky, but fair is fair.
