A visit on this thread makes me realize that Jason Brown is my favorite US single skater :o :o

Baseball has been popular in the mainstream for far longer than figure skating — both sports entered Japan fairly early (baseball in 1872, while the earliest instance of figure skating in Japan dates back to 1877), but figure skating only got somewhat popular in 1920s (and only pick up on steam at 1977 Worlds onwards, when Tokyo hosted the Worlds — also FYI JSF was first formed in 1929 for both figure skating and speed skating). Edit: Sorry I didn't write much more about baseball at first, because I am not too familiar with the sport as an audience, and I am not too familiar with the sports' presence in Japan either. I don't know how popular exactly baseball was in Japan at the turn of the century, but if it was even referenced in the novel "I am a Cat" by Natsume Soseki (which was written around 1905-1909 first as a serialized stories in a literary journal), then I think it's safe to say that baseball is already highly popular among the people then, especially the boys .

OMG how could I forget this , of course the Pyeongchang gala practice has my favorite Yuzu moments as well, like: 1. Yuzu, Eric and Misha catwalk 2. Yuzu *hazing* Shoma (telling Shoma to get under his legs *lol*, touching Shoma's back of the knee with his knee from behind, causing Shoma to lose balance 3. Yuzu kneeling to Zhenya, asking for her hand — posing like prince and princess together :3 4. Yuzu pulled down Boyang's hood, and then he pulled his own jacket's collar up to his head (since it has no hood ) 5. Yuzu getting into a rinkside hole-in-the-wall (perhaps by Eric's prompt? ) 6. The skating express™ (you know, where Javi is the driver and some other skaters hold tight to his waist in chain, and then when he turns too sharply the people behind (Boyang I think) falls) 7. Yuzu just skates past the sweeper kids and says "saranghaeyo yeoreobun!" (I love you everyone!) to the kids, while making the big heart sign with the arms this playboy I swear XD 8. Yuzu fiddling with the fan (the 2020 olympics fan) 9. Luca Lanotte's selfie with Yuzu and Shoma ...and many more, I might add more later

Since I only follow him intensely the last season my favorite moments from him is limited to the Olympics. It's easily the moment around the finish of the Men's FS, where Yuzu realized that he won again , the Hug™, the on-rink podium moment , the moment where they did the victory lap (and posed with their flags), the moment where Yuzu patted Shoma , the moment when Yuzu jumped on the podium for the medal ceremony :') — the 2018 olympics turned out to be such a blessed olympics, especially after the gloom from the NHK trophy ...

...maybe because PR is (assumed to be) *implied* in UR judgement? (I mean, if you PR, then you definitely don't rotate as much as you are supposed to be, hence you UR your jump, even when you land it on the right mark). This is my assumption as a lay person of course (But before someone tell me that UR and PR is different — don't worry, I realize that they are different issues, especially when you start examining them separately ) Also let's hope that Yuzu and everyone else involved in the Nessie hunt stay in the best shape

...Matteo Rizzo too is in Fiamme Azzure, I think? Also this sort of arrangement (being an army/police officer while being an athlete) is found not only in Italy, but also Germany (afaik — tell me if there are other countries that financially compensate their athletes in this way) — still in Italy we have Valentina Marchei as an Air Force officer (though lately she is also in the Italian Olympic committee — not sure if she is financially compensated from that though ). In Germany Aljona is an officer in the Bundeswehr (army branch), along with other German pair skaters (Annika Hocke/Ruben Blommaert) and ice dancers (I forgot their names, but they have actually split now ) that also went to Pyeongchang

This is also my understanding of him training the 4A this season (also why I sound so optimistic in my earlier posts in this thread ). For junior men, the one I know training 4A is Camden Pulkinen (from a post on his instagram). He is still training it in harness (from the insta post he stumbled at the landing). I assume he still continues training it this season, but with him being at TomZ's camp I admit that I am rather skeptical about him...

So, before the reveal of Otoñal and Origin costume, my ranking of Yuzu's favorite costume goes like this (EX costumes excluded, sorry ): 1. Seimei 2.0 2. Let's Go Crazy (purple one ofc ) 3. Etude (...and the rest are my least favorites, I don't care about their placements ) ...also yes I am one of those Yuzu fans who has to get used to his costuming style, ie. I can't quite like his typical costumes style (eg. H&L) right away unlike most other fans — as you can see from my ranking the ones that places the highest are more typically masculine — don't burn me at the stake please After the reveal, the ranking is now like this: 1. Etude I like Otoñal, although it doesn't place that high in my list I must admit that blue-colored costume is my weak point (especially the one in the shades of Otoñal ) — such a weak point that it made me indifferent of any other opinions people have on Yuzu's Otoñal (eg. it's not autumnal enough, the ruffles on the waist is weird, etc.). It is a soothing costume to look at... Origin is really fierce, also yeah if you ever have a Black Swan Yuzu fantasy then your wish is pretty much fulfilled with it .

...it is this trait of him (his "foot-in-mouth" tendency) that really put me off of him. I admit that I am being unfair to him for not giving myself the chance to watch his performances (save for his Take Five SP) and judge him primarily as a skater, and also for taking things he said in interviews (too) seriously (being morally uptight and all ;p) — but this tendency, man, I can only at him. (Also at the very least, all of his foot-in-mouth utterances are really just...bad (as in, no rhyme or reason whatsoever ), not mentioning his constant dismissal of Yuzu (ie. only considering Javi as his (worthy) rival — not even thinking about the existence of Yuzu at all), it's all just...)

Well, not really, not exactly. Though I agree with what @4Nessie said below — he is a bit like Shoma in that he interacted in a (broadly) similar manner to Yuzu during ACI victory ceremony

Not physically though — he's taller (177 cm) than both Yuzu (172 cm) and Shoma (158 cm)

I also voted Helsinki because I want him to land it there (so yeah, pure emotional wish), instead of some guess with a logical reasoning behind it . I understand the reasoning for those who thinks he will land it in the latter half of the season, but I don't think he will move it into the next season barring any major physical challenges *touch wood* *God forbid that happens X( X( X(* . Anyway, he is a man of his words, so if he said he'll do it this season, then I trust him that he will definitely do it this season. What makes me still confident with my pick that he (might) land it in the earlier half of the season is the eyewitnesses' accounts of him landing the 4A. The success rate might be just about 50% for now but he might improve the success rate along with the consolidation of his programs. (As a final note, think also about how we haven't seen the beginning of the open practice at the media day this year — what if it turned out that he landed 4A there? (I thought of it as I browsed twitter and stumbled upon such tweet...))
