Loved that tumblr post about Patrick https://yeahzuru.tumblr.com/post/163751986884/patrick-chan-bonus

I chose daft punk and got R&J

Yes, exactly, he's never said he would coach. But at the same time we have Kenji and Mura talking about how Yuzu helped fixing their jumps - and I could bet Yuzu coached Nobu a bit too. And he's interested in education, now ? I really would looove to see Yuzu in a Stephane/Denis-like relationship with a promissing young skater <3

Actually that's the reason why the 4 quad layout with the 4Lz is my favourite : it allows him to YOLO almost whatever he wants, and I LOVE YOLO Yuzu XD

I wonder if technical panels will be more strict about quads, now that they're becoming so common ? I always wondered why single ladies tech panels were so much harsher than men panels, but I could only find two logical explanations... 1 - sexism 2 - wanting to reward those who take risks. If option 2 is the right one (which I sincerely hope), then the tech panels should become stricter as the quads become more mainstream. We'll see. But this quad race is really frightening. Especially with no rest day at the Olympics...

Poor Jun hwan He is the junior I'm the most interested in - I hope he'll get well soon.

Funny how we shared similar thoughts at the same time <3 @SparkleSalad don't worry, Yuzu is faaaar from being bilingual, and I really doubt he'll ever be really fluent in english
-
I really loved that interview. I especially loved the part about education: I think that course is probably what led Yuzu to become more open with Brian this year - and it must indeed have been very interesting if he was at last motivated enough to study english seriously Also, he is talking about both sides of coach/skater relationship... is Yuzu thinking about becoming a coach once he r****s, by any chance ? I sure would love to see that ! edit: ... And the part about the "Skate Notes" made me strangely happy - because I happen too use a notebook too to write down daily things that come into my mind, or to draw. I feel happy to have something in common with him ^^

Well, I have absolutely no idea, which is why I kinda find the erasing of posts problematic... I can understand editing/paraphrasing a post with a mod explaining what the problem was, or putting things in spoiler tags, but erasing is rewriting history and lacking transparency imho I already hated this on GS But sorry to be Edit : thank @singcarcom for the explanation. Yes, putting the post in spoiler tags would have been better imho. Erasing hate posts don't erase the hate... We can't all live in a bubble where everybody thinks the same as we do, or can we ?
-
So... moderating on planet hanyu is purely and simply erasing posts without any explanation ?

Perhaps the article you were thinking about was this one ? https://www.buzzfeed.com/blairbraverman/why-is-the-worlds-gayest-sport-stuck-in-the-closet?utm_term=.jaMxyDNk63#.aoMBPL17EW I found it very good (and depressing). Thanks for this wonderful thread btw. I still have to catch on the latest programs you posted but it's really great to learn a bit more about figure skating history. It's very interesting and it helps putting things into perspective. Edit : re-reading this article makes me love Yuzu even more. He seems to be so beyond these gender stereotypes and sexuality assumptions, it's remarkable.

I agree. Given how Yuzu gushes about how the 4T is almost as reliable as the 3A now, and seems to be able to do 4T3T with closed eyes, while 4S3T was such a nightmare last season, I see him more doing something like 4Lz 4Lo 3F // 4T3T 4S 3A3T 3A1Lo3S 3Lz (if he goes for a 4 quads layout) edit : ooops soryy, many other answers, my post is useless

Actually the 4Lz addition would be great in that regard, since it would allow him more improvisation possibilities in case of a popped jump

Perhaps they have some guest technical panels /judges panels to gauge the scoring potential of the programs before the new season, in order to make adjustments if needed ?
-
Ah, too bad, I was hoping. Thank you for your answer

Wow, wonderful thread, what a great idea ! Sui/Han made me discover and love Pairs, at least some of the best programs, and I can definitely a kind of see a filiation between this Shen/Zhao program and theirs. I don't know if it's only me ? Something in the flow, chemistry and artistry that I don't see often in pair programs, perhaps ?

I love ombre de la mancha. But now, yes, there are so many versions ! It could be any style, really There's even a famous one (well, at least in France) in french by belgian legend Jacques Brel - well I guess there's no chance that he'll chose this one, but, one girl can dream, isn't it ? P.S : oh no that was deemed to happen, I'm once again lost in a Brel loop... and now I want desperately to see Yuzu skate one day to "La chanson des veiux amants", which will never happen, and that just makes me sad. Sorry for being -

I recall Kenji saying that Yuzu helped him fix his axel by giving him only a few advices - and my little finger is telling me that Nobus amazing combos at FaOI may have benefited from some Yuzu help too. In fact I kinda think that Yuzu would make a great technical coach - he's put so much thought about how to perfect his elements, and he's such a perfectionist - he would know exactly what to correct in order to obtain perfect jumps. The "Shuu" "Paa" thing might sound funny, but I think it nly means something about the rythm of the jump, and the moments you have to focus your energy... nothing that mysterious ?

Okay I'm dead.

I know FaoI is what is really thrilling right now, but still... I could find (at last) a bit of time to translate the very nice french tv commentary of Yuzu's SP in Helsinki, for those who're interested Enjoy <3

2017 WC Helsinki SP | French national TV (FranceTV Sport) Wow, finally a bit of free time to translate some commentary, Yay ! Sooo... On the menu today, Yuzu's Helsinki SP, with the comment of french national TV. I must admit that I only watched it once, live, I had even taken a day off to watch the SP... but then couldn't watch it again for a few weeks because I was too bitter for Yuzu. Now today I'm really happy to rewatch it because the performance was great, and the commentary very enjoyable, so thank you @gladi for giving me the link :). The commentator is not our usual three clowns musketeers (they only did FP and EX), but a sports journalist named Paul Perret. I'm not familiar with him, but I really enjoyed the way he commented the competition – using a lot of pedagogy to explain the CoP to the viewers, and telling many anecdotes about the skaters. For the people who, like me, have a fragile heart, I put the heartbreaking parts in gray. That way, you can have a safe read with only the good parts, and a commentator who visibly loves Yuzu. and who loves saying "ça c'est une certitude" (That's for sure), so I had to cut some of them ^^ Here we are, LET'S GO CRAZY ! jumping directly to 00:12 (he's speaking about Kovtun before) 00:12 The Olympic champion is on the Ice. He's been World champion, and he's the world record holder for the short program. He established it just one year ago in Boston (small error here) – 110.95 points. He knows he needs now two quadruple jumps in order to rivalise with the best [jumpers] like Nathan Chen or Boyang Jin. Or his training mate. 00:34 And look at this asian audience, and japanese audience, who came to Helsinki. They're all there for him. (not only asian people, Paul, I wish I were there too ^^) 00:44 The music is by Prince : Let's Go crazy. 1:26 The quadruple loop. He was the first in skating history to land it. 1:54 (I really have a hard time watching this part sorry, I'm traumatized) Oow ! I really don't know how the judges are going to take the landing of the quadruple salchow into account . It's rather unconventional... even with the double toeloop afterwards. They're going to rewatch the video, that's for sure. 2:33 Triple axel, magnificent. 3:20 (just after the lunge, of course ) He's clearly a very charismatic skater, who stirs up public passion and who's got hordes of fans everywhere he goes. (that would be us) 3:49 Ah, he's going to blame himself for that 4S landing ! (pleaaase Paul don't rub it in!!!). Well, look, he's got almost as many points than the chinese skater Boyang Jin, and he's going to have much better PCs, that's for sure. 4:03 Buuut he leaves us wanting for more ! And he leaves the door wide open to his « teammate » Javier Fernandez, to Shoma Uno, to Maxim Kovtun, to Patrick Chan ! The competition is now particularly open ! 4:20 We're going to see later the infamous 4S, which triggers a lot of reactions from you all on social networks. I'm going to explain you what happened in a few seconds. 4:33 Because as you could see, I was a bit shocked while I commented. 4:38 (Pooh on the ice on screen) He could totally open a toy and flower shop. It's always like that with Yuzu. All the rinks are warned, but it's always the same – each time there are at least twenty plastic bags full of teddy bears and flowers. It's never easy to skate just after him. Here the lucky one is going to be his compatriot Shoma Uno,. 4:57 Oh, you can see Tracy Wilson on the right – a former ice dance champion – and then Brian Orser, the twice olympic silver medalist, in 1984 and 1988. And there's still Javier Fernandez to come in a few minutes, that's saying how open the door is. Wide open (stooooop Paul please!) (slow motions begin) 5:24 Here, the loop. He was the first one to land it in competition, this early autumn. Also called Rittberger. I like « loop » better. 5:40 And now we're going to watch THE mistake – because there's unquestionably a mistake on the 4S combination. The landing wasn't well controled, and although there's a double jump afterwards, the judges penalize that. The fact that there is a combination is ratified, but only the first jump counts, not the second. You can't see the protocols, but I have them, and that's the explanation I've been given. It's going to be official in a few seconds. He loses points on this, of course. Quite a lot. 6:15 However look at the axel ! At these lines and extensions ! And what's fabulous with him is that it has nothing to do with chance. 6:25 And he's such a great guy – we already witnessed it in Marseille for instance – he is very « friendly » (he says it in english ^^), as we say - he approaches the people and talk to them. He's not at all in a bubble. 6:34 And here is his entourage from Toronto, where he's training. It's quite the factory, tat Brian Orser created there. 6:44 We're waiting to the score – I wouldn't say with impatience, but more with a little bit of fear... 6:52 98.39, he's second. Not by far, not by far. 7:03 I don't know either what the deduction point is for. I must say that I'm a bit perplexed too, like the three of them. I don't know, I have no explanation. But, well. He's second, And not far from the first.
