Sombreuil
I’ve never really followed ice dance - too technical, and I don’t understand/often can’t see the nuances that make all the difference in scoring, though the new tech box (when they use it) is a great help with that. Then along came Utana and Shingo, and now Hannah Lim and Ye Quan and suddenly I see a lot of junior ice dance in my future watching.

Umebachi
Yuma's father, Masakazu Kagiyama - at 1994 Lillehammer Olympics FS - you can see some similarities with his son. It's interesting to see how much the technical difficulties have increased in the last 25 years. Also note that the Japanese judge gave him among the lowest marks. Plus ça change... Paskud
Alena Kanysheva announced that she is changing disciplines from singles to ice dance due to the injury. google translate: Hello! I want to tell you about the changes in my life. I am leaving solo skating, I will try myself in ice dancing. The injury I received in November 2018 does not allow me to perform the necessary jumping load. I want to thank the team @teamtutberidze_ for the opportunity to learn 4T - that was my dream! I also want to thank all the coaches who worked with me in single skating Kafiskina Nelly Nikolaevna, Sergey Sergeyevich Roslyakova, Oksana Mikhailovna Bulycheva team, Svetlana Vladimirovna Panova team. I will miss single skating and continue to work! I promise that I will make every effort to reach a decent level, but already in ice dancing. airi
I just read it, sigh, one of the most talented juniors in recent years... But I wish her success in ice dance!

Fay
Alena, what figure skating fans are going to remember you for is your Snow Maiden programme, not your Instagram quad...
rubyblue
Very sad and concerning. Was it worthy to learn 4 toeloop if she couldn't not only show it even once but also can't show anything else anymore (as a single skater)? How many kids they have to break in the sake of efficiency of this champions factory? Wish her beautiful career as an ice dancer though. Hope it will be rewarding for her. ralucutzagy
Tbh, I'm very concerned abt Sasha Trusova, too ... I know she's not a junior anymore but wth she's 15 ... her quads are starting to let her down ... how long can she last with Eteri if they are not coming back ? EisElle
the news about Alena Kanysheva were so unexpected my first reaction was just disbelief... so apparently it was an "old" injury that got esacerbated and got to a breaking point? (and does it mean that at gpf18 she was competing injured and kept competing injured for months?). mmm it's nice that she sounds positive and thanked all her coaches, but a couple things in that post sound...dubious tbh. Well, injury can happen any time, on any element (and even off ice), but for Alena, in spring and till test skates it looked like everything was just fine... training a full layout of triples, training the quad, even talking about chances of putting that into a layout for comps (which means quad training wasn't done just once in a blue moon)... and then wd after wd... few news... and now this Well, at least her injury isn't as bad to prevent her from competing and skating altogether.... that's the positive in this, I suppose, to be somewhat reassured that her healthy isn't completely ruined at fourteen (tho fs at competitive level is a very punishing sport for the body even when one can avoid big injuries). At least we might get to enjoy her ss again (tho the 3Lz will be missed ) The announcement about Ted commentating JrRusNats would have made me at least moderately pleased any other day but today my feelings range frkm numbness to annoyance, because Ted is the voice of JGP and Alena was supposed to be one of the stars of this junior season... and instead here we are... (but then, all of this made me remember that Nastya Tarakanova wasn't skating at SrNats, so I hope she's recovering )

I think Sasha's struggles this season are mostly because she is biting off more than she is able to chew. Her 4lz always was weird. 4f even worse. She always struggled with 4s and has UR problem on 4t (judging by competition attempts) for quite some time already. Plus unstable 3a in SP. And she has to focus on all of them. What junior boy at her age has this arsenal?! I can think only about Shun - 3a, 4t, 4s, 4lo, 4lz. And he isn't jumping all of them in one program for good reason. For now I prefer to think that her struggles at Euros with "only" 3 quads were because she was training 5 quads until EC and changed it right before competition. If situation will be the same at WC, then I don't know what to say anymore.... And about Ted:
