Magazines and Photobooks - Recommendations and Reviews

As you all know, there are tons and tons and tons of magazines that include Yuzu's photos, interviews and related articles and - especially for foreign and not Japanese speaking people - it's not always easy to keep up-to-date with all of them and with the best ones to spend a lot of money on have

That season photobook of 2015-2016 is great, the photos are amazing and great poses. I have it. Khoai brought it for me.

Too lazy to write reviews for separate magazines, so I'd just share my general impressions of different magazines.

 

My favourite of favourites is Ice Jewels. Photos are amazing and unique, and they have special interviews that are insightful. About half on the magazine is Yuzu. Photos by Nobuaki Tanaka.

Another favourite is Sportiva because of photos of Noto Sunao. Yuzuru's part of the magazine isn't too big, but quite substantial.

Figure Skating Magazine (フィギュアスケート・マガジン B.B.MOOK) contains full scripts of Yuzu's press-conferences and interviews at competitions. Most part of the magazine is about Yuzu, but if you can't read Japanese maybe you'd find it kinda boring.

 

If you want photos, I'd go for FIGURE SKATERS magazine. Don't let the title delude you. About 85% of pages filled with Yuzu, great and HUGE photos. Plus posters.

Another safe choice is Figure Skate Fan Tsushin (フィギュアスケートファン通信). It should be called "Yuzuru Fan" honestly. About 150 photos, great sense. I have a feeling that editors are fans lol

 

I also have a blacklist:

- Ginban no Ojitachi (銀盤の王子たち). It's purely idol magazine, no appreciation of Yuzu as athlete. Publishing company is same with certain weekly magazine which printed gossips about Yuzu. Too bad this magazine usually has some really cute photos...

- Magazines from Nikkan Sports Club (日刊スポーツグラフ). No. Never. Don't buy them. They belittle Yuzu in articles in that magazine.

Also I'm not so fond of Figure Skate Life (フィギュアスケートLife) lately...

I bought Figure Skate Life because i loved the cover of the Swan, but i did read some bad reviews on amazon

Thanks, Dara, for sharing your impressions! I haven't bought any Figure Skate Fan Tsushin issue so far but I managed to have a look at post GPF16 number and it was absolutely gorgeous *-*

 

Ice Jewels PhotoBook has been my best purchase so far, can't recommend it enough and I hope they will have a nice one out also for 2016/17 season :D

 

Not understanding a word of Japanese I rely on these kind of recs to know what to pick so thanks again for sharing! :wink:

I bought in cdjapan the Memorial Grand Prix Series 2015, it was beautiful with many pictures of yuzu, great quality

Also the anan magazine from last year because it come with a poster but not much yuzu photos there

AnAn special edition covering Yuzu and Worlds, I just received it in the mail. It has a lot of nice quality pics of mostly Yuzu with a couple shots of Team Japan. I'd like to purchase some magazines but I can't choose from these two: Ice Jewels Vol 05. (published 9 February 2017) vs Figure Skaters Vol.3. (published 22 December 2016). Since I don't speak Japanese I'd choose the one which has more+bigger+better quality pictures of Yuzu. If someone could suggest me which one to buy, I'd be thankful

Shining moments is Hanyu heaven! 99% Yuzu with a small section featuring other skaters in the back. Photos from junior days up to 2015-2016 season. Sooooo many photos. Soooo many cute things. And R+J1 Yuzuru with Tororo! Some of them are great for showing the detail of the costumes. Sparkle salad looks so pretty! And I love anything with Etude photos I haven't seen before. 

 

I will be screenshotting the whole thing. For science. And posterity. (Mostly for money saving.)

JUST GOT IT MYSELF  I can confirm there're 100 pages of Yuzu (and one or two photo for other skaters who participate FaOI) AND OH MY HEART!!  

BUT for cat-ear photos you have to go for the FaOI photobook!
