Hi, I was away from the forum for a while so idk, maybe this was discussed here before, but I've just read interview of Lakernik in "World of Figure Skating" magazine (it's official magazine of RusFed). This is backnumber (December 2017) but still pretty recent one. So he outlines changes that way: - mens' and pairs FS will be 4 minutes - that's for sure, because this change was accepted by previous Congress back in 2014. His reasoning is this - mens' programs are so demanding, that last 30 seconds hardly add anything to the program, because skater can barely make through it. It's more tricky with pairs, they do fine, but it'd be weird to leave only pairs FS 4.5 min, when all others skate for 4 minutes. - base values of quads AND triple axel will be reduced (he doesn't say by how many percent), and at the same time GOE range will be made wider. from -5 to +5. Skaters would be able to earn even more points for well executed jump than they do now. At the same time poorly executed one would be penalized more. Lakernik says they expect that points for each jump will remain more or less in the same range, but GOE changes would induce including only jumps that are ready enough. Because including jump only for receiving high base value after fall would be pointless (he emphasized that audience doesn't like performances with multiple falls and doesn't care if it was fall on really hard element). He also says that their calculations assume that TES wouldn't change much when such changes would be applied, it only would become less by scores of that one jump that will be taken away from the program. He expects everyone to take away their easiest jump, so in general programs will remain as demanding as they are now. - he was asked if it's possible that these changes will make programs quadless like in Vancouver, because skaters won't risk getting huge GOE deductions for quads and will rely on clean triples. Lakernik answered that in his opinion this won't happen because skaters found right way to tackle quads. Another point he made is that it's possible that for high, wide, fully-rotated and landed on one foot jump start GOE would be +2 rather than 0, so in that case GOE for fall on it would be -3 rather than -5. In that case 30% penalty of base value (direct quote: "you get about 10% penalty on every step, that's the way the scale is arranged") rather that 50% would make jump still quite worthy, so each fall is different. This leads me to idea that GOE coefficient on quads will be 1.0 as it is now. Let's say 4T base value would be 9.3. Total score for the element can range from 4.3 up to 14.3. Max is more that current 10.3+3=13.3 points. Full -5 is less than current 6.3. "-3 fall" would be the same.

I haven't seen anything related to WD announcement, but 15th is the day the site of Continues～with Wings～ will be updated. CWW is rumored to be TOI-like ice show. According to the leaflet (?) at the picture below three shows were planned for mid-April in Musashinomori Sports Plaza, but most likely gonna be postponed.

Yeah, a bit of mixup, it happened but at national level. March 2015 - "omg, LizaT broke Mao's SP tes record! She will win in 2018 with her 3A!" December 2015 - "we'll see Polina vs Zhenya showdown in 2018!" March 2016 - "Marin Honda will become rival for Zhenya and other Russian girls in 2018" April 2017 - "Zhenya has broken her WRs in N-th time. That's your Olympic champion" This goes on and on

Well he wouldn't be able to compete at JGP if he'd be novice. He was 13. It's easy to say now "he was special even then". The thing is, I see something special in some junior skaters (like Polina Tsurskaya - I still remember that moment and even place of the rink where she landed her 3Lz in front of me), but it isn't necessary that they will be able to carry that to their later careers. So after watching whole Olympic cycle I became very careful with my expectations. You never know what happens with these young skaters. Look at Sota who hoped to compete with Yuzu in 2018 - he broke his leg right before Jr.Worlds he was very likely to win and still can't recover. So I think it's safer to just keep eye on many juniors who have great qualities and crown no one as "next queen" and so on. Junior competitions are to practice their skills and get experience. It's great if they can win, but junior medals don't mean that much is you can't keep your level and develop as a senior. Lets be honest - nobody but skating fans would even know if you was Jr. World medalist.

Yup, he didn't get spot at another event of series cause his place at his first was too low.

Oksana - never competed internationally at junior level I believe Tara - 4th and 5th at Jr.Worlds (no JGPF at that time) Sarah - 2nd at all here Jr competitions (including Worlds and JGPF) Shizuka - 7-8th at Jr. Worlds (no JGPF at that time), won Olympics at age of 24 (the oldest in 80+ years) Yes, from 2010 you see JGPF winners becoming Olympics gold medalists. But so many great skaters can't carry their success to senior level. Probably only 5 or 10 minutes are on Yuzu, and all other time will be about various different Olympians.

And nominated individual can decline the honor. It happened few times before. I hope Yuzu won't decline though.

Thank you! Now I see that Shoma definitely lowers his leg before he finished full second rotation. Upright is borderline I think? So it's not lvl 4 spin (meanwhile Yuzu got lvl 3 on his last spin in SP).

Speaking of Shoma's Oly scoring and tech calls. I read one Japanese blog today and that blogger pointed out that Shoma's FCCoSp should be not counted at all or at least (as technical panel was soft on other skaters too) called FCCoSp3V instead of level 4. Apparently his camel position as well as upright position lacks 2 full rotations - and a spin with no basic position with 2 revs should receive no level and no points. I can't find Shoma's FS video (taken down, urgh) to check this, but if it's right...

There is no way skater with such flawed technique can actually surpass Yuzuru. Period.

Exactly! LMAO that person who asked that question was so ridiculous, so that was just a way to try and stop that talk. Zhenya was like "I was asked the same question at the same place at press-conference last year after WC, and I was at loss what to say exactly like I am now".

I watched this thing yesterday as I heard they kinda compare "team Brian" and "team Eteri", but this wasn't that this program was about actually. More like talk about two foreign coaches with OG medalists vs. how is coaching done in Japan. I got nothing new from that show tho, cause everything was based on "Team Brian" book (and editor of the book Noguchi was there too). But I think it was pretty interesting for general audience.

Few days before Olympics started twitter (and Japanese news shows too I guess) was buzzing with 寒い、people were discussing how cold it is in Korea (and cold at opening ceremony). So my guess that note has to do something with it.

It's from TV Asahi. The interview is rly good, it ends with Matsuoka asking Yuzu what did he seize at Olympics, and Yuzuru's answer is "Happiness". I even teared a bit watching it ;_;

I agree, it's hard to keep up with all magazines! But not so many of them have exclusive interviews with Yuzu. WFS and Quadruple nowadays don't... That issue of WFS I mentioned also had Tracy's interview, I think I saw that one in English.

Now when you say this... I read it from scan of WFS magazine. Probably this wasn't translated into English?
