March 25, 20188 yr Lol I just realized that the only time Mirai has ever made the Worlds/Olympic team outright was during Olympic years (2010-2014-2018). Talk about delivering under pressure, which is kind of the opposite of what she's known for. Okay she didn't make the team in 2014, but she was #3 and there were 3 spots so for the sake of this argument, she placed high enough to grab a spot (it was just an unfortunate situation that she didn't. If the ranking was Gracie-Ashley-Mirai, she would've made it). On the other hand, Ashley Wagner has finished one placement below the number of entries in every single Olympic year.

Did you guys watch Mirai's first vlog on YouTube? Sounds like she's trying to start a channel. I found it really eye opening when she spoke about the psychological impact of media-attended practices. I wonder if the same holds true for open practices before comps? I also wonder how other skaters deal with media scrutiny, particularly in the lead up to competitions. Ideally they would mentally block out any media presence during practice and avoid social media, but I guess that's easier said than done.

For example I was really surprised to read that before his free skate, Nathan followed the results on Twitter I guess some skaters aren't bothered by the media presence that much but others need to isolate themselves. But I think all of them are affected by it in some ways, even if they think they think they aren't.

From what I read, Yale's requirements for graduation are very strict, he'd have to attend the great majority of the courses. So, how will he be able to study and do elite training at the same time? Will Yale do some concessions for him? How does it tie-in with being coached by Rafael whose base is in California?

I tried looking it up the other day and the only evidence I found was that Nathan liked a Yale class of 2022 insta post. Which isn't super conclusive, but if he actually put it in his description, that's a different story. I don't think Nathan would put skating on hold to study, especially since he has at least another shot at future Olympics. It's never too late to go to college and study med, but his skating career has a time limit. I'm sure he has something planned out

He or the coach would still have to travel, but Hackensack does have Victor Petrenko, Morozov, and uncle Bychenko. East coast US does have decent coaches, though most of the recent champs have come out from west coast.
