It's probably the so called walking pneumonia, it's different from the usual, serious one. Some folks never know they had it, and you can even sort of function with it, as if you have a cold. I imagine the free skate is going to be way more difficult for her. Also I am not sure if she is contagious or not.

Had to google that since I never heard of walking pneumonia before, what I found suggests that it is usually contagious. Even if it is just cold symptoms, she will be low on energy and tired. She will definitely have a difficult time in the free.

Hope she feels well and doesn't push herself too much :smiley-angelic001:

I am really not happy with having her skate when sick, did they not learn anything from Yuzuru's accident

I am not happy with her skating while sick either, but what can you do? These athletes are a stubborn lot or they wouldn't get to this point...

I am hoping she's already in recovery, hence the ability to skate but yes, knock on wood this doesn't set her back and of course, hopefully nobody at TCC picked this up from her.

It is far from ideal to skate but as @liv says they're stubborn and who knows what her thoughts are here. She may think she has to.

Was skating in that condition really necessary :banginghead:

I don't think it is admirable that she did it or that she had her best SP. I am also very disappointed in Brian and her team

What are Canadian requirements to qualify for PC ?  Did she have to skate at Nationals or miss out?

Three spots and I think, but don't hold me to it, that the 3rd spot has some leeway, so something like body of work thing the USA had but I'd have to go look for it.

In the absence of any assurances she may feel she needs to skate to be sure of keeping her place.

I  think Gabby would have skated here even with a broken bone or two on top of pneumonia. This girl wants to prove herself and would not want Kaetlyn to hold any edge over her if she could prevent it. Yes, I know that sounds crazy. She is an adult, and a young one full of her own invincibility at that, but no one can prevent her from doing this... We do not know how much Lee was trying to convince her otherwise, after all. I think she would love a national title as her birthday present to herself today. We will see how it goes in the long. She may learn many things this weekend.

Hope she pulls through with it today. I love her energy on the ice when she’s in good form.

Happy Birthday, Gabi!
