[2017] GPF - Men SP & FS

Featured Replies

Men didn't got me too excited today, only Shome gave a little laugh (sorry, Shoma)) And what happened that Nate nails 3A when Shoma fails it?  Maybe FS will be more interesting, hope Mika'll stand on his feet.

I have no idea - anyone know?? Ice dance, Torville and Dean, Bolero, back in the dark ages, moving around on the ice to use the atmospheric lead in without using up skating time - that was allowed, but it was a long long time ago in another discipline.......

The clock on a program begins when the skater moves, be it with arms or otherwise. Not with the music. They can be stationary and still move their body and the clock begins. Hence Chopin's beginning: it only starts counting for the 2:40 +/- 10secs as Yuzu rolls his head.

Okay, it wasn't the music being too long after all.

To be totally clear - this covers everyone? So T&D would be incurring a penalty under current rules?

The rules during T/D's time was that the clock only started when their blades touched the ice. That's why they knelt down at the beginning of the routine - to be able to use the full music (which was 18 seconds longer than the rules).

I know 'it's a sport' and that rules are there for a lot of reasons, but it does sometimes seem as though the inventiveness is gradually being squeezed out?  I'm a dinosaur and total spectator, but after several decades of watching on and off maybe this is why the sport has lost ground?  I wonder sometimes whether Yuzurus inventiveness is what causes his problems with the judges- they can't fault him within the rules so they use the flex they have in the system to try and shut him down.  He's probably grateful because it fuels him to make a beautiful whole seamless programme within a system that is not accountable and not consistent in the application of its own rules.  I'm grateful for him.

As kaeryth said, rules were different then. But if T&D did their program now, it'd start counting as they moved.

Rule 502

Duration of skating

The time must be reckoned from the moment the Skater (either Skater for Pair Skating and Ice Dance) begins to move or to skate until arriving at a complete stop at the end of the program.

Oh, then Shoma's team is excused :P

Still, an awful way to lose a point  the kuyashii will be big

for Shoma's sake, I hope it won't be that time deduction what will decide the winner :13877886:

I'm looking at the scores and thinking that Yuzu is still the king of GOEs. Both Nate and Shoma are nearing Yuzu's 47ish PCS from ACI SP, but that GOE gap is pretty significant.

I'm still :salty: that the PCS gap is so small... ACI 2017 Chopin was as close to perfection as can be. :snonegai:

I've watched Nathan's and Shoma's SP and I feel that the PCS gap between theirs and Yuzu should be at least 10....:salty::salty::salty:

So I was rewatching it, and his hand was moving only very very slightly after the music end...So...they're super strict with time violations and costume violations, when will they be as strict consistently about :carrot_::carrot_: and steps before single jump in sp?

So is this a new rule? Because I remember this season, threre have been plenty of skaters finished after their music stopped and got no deduction

This might be a good explanation...

Referee/time keeper doing their job thoroughly (where I feel it's just too much semantics) while tech panel is just.... :slinkaway:

So it seems that TES box has been used in Japanese broadcasts since at least last season.

You can see it in this snippet of a Japanese broadcast of Yuzu's FS at Worlds.

More proof that Japan is so very ExtraTM when it comes to figure skating.

I'm about ready to be canned now, I'm so salty still. Cannot wait to see what strange machinations we will see in the free. From the judges, of course.

The Grand Prix final doesn't feel like the Grand Prix final without Hanyu, Chan, and Javier. It really is a Nathan versus Shoma Grand Prix Final. Nathan seems off I'm thinking he's still not over his blade issue and Shoma was Shoma ( little mistakes costing him).

Now I need to go watch that StSq again... sorry, I haven't yet associated Nathan with across-the-board +3 GOEs on this element so I'm curious now...
