Yeah, I thought the lutz was short too.

Adam's too actually.

But neither got called so...

Adam got a little carrot for his 3Lz. UR, not downgraded.

I and German Eurosport commentators 100% agree with you ;)

I hate to say it but I didn't think Jason was at his best today, even not considering the jumps. :( But there's the free, I'm sure he'll be back to his usual smooth and beautiful skating!

no he wasn't but the others weren't either...that's why the big point difference to Mikhail, Shoma and Nathan has got me so :salty::waffle::tumblr_inline_mzx8t825tZ1r8msi5:

on another note the judges basically have Shomas winter today on the same level as Sochi PW...

ETA: Sry if this gets drastic but no one should have gotten over 100p today

I'm so glad all the guys are still in one piece tbh (and can I be a bit :devil3: that the supposedly consistent guys had a few glitches here?)

In the FS the BV will have a huuuuge weight, so I haven't many hopes for Mika to suddenly upset all predictions tho how funny would that be. But I hope he can at least avoid bombing himself out of podium:slinkaway:

Also, I was expecting Nathan to be closer to Shoma in pcs... but not those scores. PCS scoring completely out of control, and now they haven't even the pathetic excuse of awarding perfect skates. Just wtf! Good job, you judges :animated-smileys-angry-033:

(I swear, if Yuzu skates clean or even cleanish they'll better give him all those damn max pcs:hachimaki:)

It's the GPF and they have no other top PCS men to compare with. What did you expect?

It's so sad they we have to expect something like this :13877886:

Is it just me or do the judges keep being creative in the negative goe for falls? Like, there was one -1 for Shoma’s.

to be completely fair, iirc in the rulebook it isn't stated clearly "final goe must be -3" (I could be wrong tho), so maybe it's still supposed to add with positive features...:slinkaway:  (tho then I'd loudly complain that judges should never give any -3 goe to any of Yuzu's fall  :smiley-sad058:  but he got all his -3s, which means whenever he's fallen he's always lost all the five points on his super gorgeous jumps preceded by all sorts of transitions, with awesome height and distance)

BUT it's clearly stated in the same rulebook that "final GOE on elements not meeting the requirements for sp must be -3", so Mika should have got all -3s for that alone on his Lz, fall or not, and Nathan on his flip, too (and after watching jr ladies' steps before solo jumps, Shoma's kind of step pales a lot. But I understand that at least he's doing...something. Kind of.)

dear Shoma, this is NOT what you are not supposed to be taking after your senpai :dumb: (but maybe this means he feels kuyashii and he'll have a good free skate... :P)

Dammit, Shoma ... the 3A, my boy ... why

Suddenly the 3A is Nathan's best jump in this competition.

Guys, guys! I know who's jinxed them! In the last podcast Ambesi & Dolfini said Nathan's weakness is his 3A, while it's a reliable jump for Shoma

I don't understand why the commentators feel the need to make excuses for skaters scoring over 100 points.. Leave those to when they bomb british eurosport

Hey, they're right, you know. How would you explain that Nate's 3A was better than his quads today? Clearly there must be something really wrong

Ok I could have done without the BEsp commentary. When two different slow-mo clearly show you more than 180 degree of PR on a flip and a landing that wasn't really so smooth you shouldn't use the word masterclass. Than what would Nathan's flip be (when he lands it well)?

Shoma's fall on the Axel was so weird... everything looked all right, quite good air position, all rotations completed, no weird twist of his ankle... to me it looks like he unwrapped his free leg with so much force/speed that it suddenly wrenched his baricenter, so the blade slipped... but I'm glad at least it looks Shoma isn't hurt.

sorry for double post

I'm not sure about Shoma, but Nathan should have got -4 because of his flip, so even with those pcs and without UR...yeah.

But yes, thinking about PW the pcs comparison stings :smiley-sad058:

Sadly, that was a different era, when people complained all the time that Chan was always overscored in pcs but judges gave him a mere 47 in the short :13877886: and Yuzu's perfect 3A out of counter didn't get all +3s :13877886::13877886:

Really another world

Oh, even on a bad day, outside of the jumps, Jason is better than most of the others! I was comparing him to himself, really. If only he could get his jumps more stable! And get that quad, if he really nails just one, the 4T he's landed in practice quite well, that's three quads between his SP and free, and if he gets that 3A stability sorted out to get good GOE then that would bump his scores up, too. But he does everything well, except for those jumps. *sigh* I love watching him, though.

I'm adding these results to my men's averages table and not surprisingly Nathan got better PCS here than a SkA. He had better GOEs at SkA though. Shoma also had better PCS than his Lombardia and SC SPs, which were much better TES wise. I do think they've become better at their SPs as they go along, as they mature with them, but it's still weird when you see the PCS scores side by side in the sheet compared to the lower TES they got here.

To find something positive in men's senior competition, Shoma really got me today: his hair, fall, smile in the end, K&C  Unfortunately, this is not about skating, but he was so cute, I can't

I'm looking at the scores and thinking that Yuzu is still the king of GOEs. Both Nate and Shoma are nearing Yuzu's 47ish PCS from ACI SP, but that GOE gap is pretty significant.

You mean 48.55 PCS at ACI. He got 46.61 at CoR but he also fucked up.

Ugh, why do I always think he only got 47ish? :13877886: Well then, his CoR F*** up was still pretty high compared to today's skates.

Looking at the actual protocols, who was J6? I feel like I found my near mental twin on the judging panel. o_O

The PCS gap between Yuzu and the rest is still there, even if smaller. This is the last really big competition before the Olympics to bump them up, isn't it? Nationals are there but that's different. So I think the aim was to get Nathan as close to Shoma as possible, and JSF was trying to keep Shoma as ahead of the rest of the pack as possible. Could they go from averaging 9-9.25 to 9.5-9.75 (from really really good to damn near perfect) by PC? In a rational world I'd find it hard to believe because that should be the hardest gap to bridge but hey, we left that world behind. So we'll see in the free.
