[2017] GPF - Ladies SP & FS

Featured Replies

I see, so in combination with the Men's, this is what happens when the King and Queen decide to not appear at GPF. Insanity reigns supreme in the scores. So it seems judging needs them more then even us needing them-for the sake of skating sanity.

Okay, the scores were all so high, but geez, everyone skated so perfectly! I guess the curse of the women doing well / the men bombing still continues. Except for Alina's stepout, Carolina's low(er) TES, and a couple of flip/lutz edges, everything else was clean! AND NO URs . I think in a field like this is how we can see who gets favored and who doesn't. Like there is literally nothing short of Satoko making a mistake for any other Team Japan ladies to beat her, although I did enjoy her program lots today as well. TBH I think the more I watch Alina the more I feel her program is unpolished and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'd be a little sad if she was the OGM. I'm predicting that the viewers who watch figure skating once every 4 years won't really understand her program or why it's better than everyone else's. I think her interpretation was the weakest of the field. And Satoko's jumps are the weakest of this field...funny how they're in the top 3. I don't favor Kaetlyn but at least she has big, powerful skating, and her programs are entertaining...at least her short is...from a Western/American-Canadian perspective. Her scores are really creeping onto Evgenia's aren't they? Just give it a competition or two...

To me, the judges are gunning for: Evgenia, Kaetlyn, Alina: possible OGMs. Satoko, Carolina: possible podium position. Everyone else is a bit of an afterthought.

Well, sometimes I wonder if the reason ladies are finally doing 3As and quads among the juniors is to see if they retain them in seniors. Then have the BV differentials the way men do-only way to control your fate. Because right now, the ladies' rely far too much on PCS and tech calls (which may have left the building at times), and PCS especially being subjective.

Yeah, I think you're right. That and the backloading. It's the only way, like you said, to control your fate.

I love her so much and she deserves so much better.  :animated-smileys-angry-033:

It is pretty much bordering on criminal how Satoko's jumps aren't being called but what can we do. I'm sorry Wakaba, you're just not their darling. I doubt even a 3A would help at this point, they'd still knock her down.

I cannot with Alina's PCS.

I'd say may the FS be better, but nah. I don't believe it for a second.

I just keep laughing at the fact that everybody went above 70's. What are we going to have for Oly? Two or more at 80's and six at 75's:rofl:Geez girls' party has gone wild!

Good SP for ladies! Jumps aside I really liked Satoko's SP tonight, but tomorrow I hope Alina will deliver and Skyfall will make it to the podium.

Dream podium: Zagitova, Higuchi, Kostner. More likely podium: Zagitova, Osmond... Higuchi? DAMN I really want Higuchi to podium!!! Mihayara skates so beautifully, but UR jumps that aren't called make me so mad!

I'd really like to see Wakaba on podium, but it looks really hard. The tech panel isn't going to help her, the judges aren't going to help her either. I hope she isn't demoralized that even skating at her best she's 5th. It's true that all scores are close and even the smalles mistake can change the final standings, but still, it's going to be hard.:sadPooh: go Waka!!!:cheer:

Men did their best to ensure we'll have a wonderful ladies' event, so bring it on in the free, ladies!

So it looks like Satoko skates last... again (she did both times at SA, right?)... after Zagitova, who follows Kaetlyn. It certainly sets up for the judges to give her some candies and make the crowd happy, doesn't it? I  hate sounding so salty at Satoko, because her skating is lovely and it isn't her fault they mark her this way, but the fact that they ignore her jump issues drives me a little crazy.

It's interesting: for certain skaters with strong jumps, they ignore the other deficiencies and award high PCS.. and for certain skaters with strong PCS  they ignore other deficiencies and award high TES. That is why in this field, I cheer mainly for Kaetlyn and then Wakaba because I would say they are closer to having a balance of the two....or at least no glaring weaknesses.

However, good luck to all the ladies. I hope they all skate as well as they did in the short program because then we'll be in for a treat.

Need to go to work now, but will rush to come back in time for free. Russian television will broadcast it live, so we can hope there will be some funny comments by TAT. Although Julia as usual will work for other channel in the internet.

Well I'm so bitter yesterday. I dont know what Wakaba could do for the judges to stop underscore her like that. What's she lacking ? Great skating skills, speed, choreo, musicality. Her spin is not that bad and she still gets levels. When I saw there's only 0.3 pts difference between her and Satoko's 3lz3t, I guess now its Wakaba who doesn't get much GOE on her jumps, not that people usually said about Satoko. I'm so sad to see the way Wakaba smile and enjoy during the program, only few mins later to know that she didn't get the score she deserve.

I hope she skate her best today. Those medal and score do not deserve her anymore.
