That attitude by the JSF just seems to be discouraging prolonged excellence. I don't recall the Canadians begrudging Scott and Tessa or Kurt a long and successful career. Japan's skating cannot do anything but benefit from the continued presence of Yuzu, the GOAT.

He doesn't exist. Anyway, JSF is wacked
sweetwater
I am not going to defend the fed here, but it is not about a choice between an athlete who has been successful for a long time and a hopeful newcomer. NHK Trophy this year was a good example if you take a look at all the disciplines. It is more about sectionalism, favoritism, or cronyism. And no matter what someone like Ito says through the media, people see what they see and support who they want to support.
Umebachi
Nice video from Shoma interviewing Satton. In the first part he is continuing his interview with Satton about her new choreography. In the last section, he talks about how low he had fallen at the IdF Grand Prix in France last year. He almost quit skating after that event, but he felt so much love and support from his fans that helped him overcome the hardship and find new inspiration to continue skating. He decided to make these regular videos to share his life and views with fans as a way to show his gratitude for their support. The boy has grown up into a more caring and mindful person! Good for you, Shoma! Being part of Team Champery was also part of this big change in life, and will be an important part of his development. BTW: He's made a series of adorable videos with his toy poodle (who travelled from Japan to Switzerland!), and in the recent one he indicated that he will be home soon (probably travelling back to Japan soon for JNats?). Their continuing support for Takahashi sort of makes this more problematic. Obviously it’s not ‘prolonged excellence’ they want, it’s whatever it is the result they get by the prioritising of certain groups. For me, that result is we fans know that most of the greats of Japan, notably their only 2 Olympic Champions, got their success despite not being backed by their federation. ...but seeing that those they do back got repeatedly trampled when pitted against bigger feds (or coaching teams that are better at campaigning), not sure if their backing is worth it, tbh. What is worse: not being backed by your fed, or being backed by your politically incompetent fed?
