I can't wrap  my head  over the  idea  of the  stars  instead of  the  medals. What's the point?  Why  reinvent things ?  Are they're  trying  to be  creative  or what? They say  this  for a reason : "If it  ain't  broke , don't  fix it":  medals have  been awarded at sport events  for  ages, and so  far  it has  worked  really well.  ,

Plastic medals are cheaper, and I think this year they wanted to make something different than last season at GPF, that's why they come up with this...*err* creative idea with the stars. But it just doesn't work at all and it all comes off as cheap. Real flags, big podiums, beautiful bouquets and shiny medals with nice ribbons don't exist without a reason...these details make the whole ceremony (and also the whole event) look much better organized.

Was watching CBC and Carol Lane mentioned the reports of brittle ice, and the water and white powder mix. Kurt said that if he was competing on that kind of ice his confidence would immediately go down and said both Javi and Shoma were slower than usual, didnt move as well... so he suspected it could have affected them. He was definitely ready to say it could have an impact.

I mean... you've hit a nail here. Not all gold that glitters, but if you want to give the winners cheap medals, at least make them LOOK. You know, my chinese shop next street sells better medals (they also have star-shaped, if you REALLY have to stick to the shape...), and there os this sports shop in which you can buy actual, heavy medal for less than 2Euros (converting from my head, sorry), and so, even if you neex to count six medals for pair and dance, it's still FRIGGIN 18 medals=36Euro for decent looking medals. Let's round it up to 40 for gravering the name of the comp et voila! for 40 Euros, DECENT Medals! I'm shook, right?

Actually, making those stars was probably more costly than getting my imagined medals sigh...

But seriously,    the  so- called medals  my daughters  got  when they  finished  their four  weeks  swimming  training  for  beginners  looked  much  better  than  the  last years' GPF medals!  And  how  much do they  cost?   Probably a  couple of bucks   each!!   A simple  metal  medal  is  cheap!!  How  are penny -wise  those  French  organizers  can  be ?  Is it really that   expensive  to  make  a freaking  simple medal  with some  fake gold - coating  and  to attach a nice  ribbon to  it??  What a  disgrace.....

Ladies did well though... even for Osmond she actually did well enough, not totally bomb.

Who's that exactly?

A wannabe football commentator who has to make thing more comfortable for Yulia. But in the end he ends up embarrassing her - he doesn't seem to realize FS world has its own etiquette which is very different from the football world...

The nadir of his commentating happened last week during the gala, though - when Jason Brown was skating. Julia had to apologize profusely...

I'm still bloody mad they had to deal with those plastic coasters =__=

Some things don't cost money, but if they have no taste, or effort either...then it's not wonder the results is bad.

And I am trying to be really diplomatic here, so I won't go into details I think

Javi and Shoma started out reasonably well but then went spectacularly downhill, especially Javi.

Misha was amazing though. He certainly deserved better than a small blue plastic star.

Also, that K&C area was horrible.

Yep, yuzi is watching that at home thinking, I want a star for MY wall. I would be so extra! With it....

I think Yuzu probably laughed his ass off when he saw those stars.

so not only are they cheapskates on medals, they also have shitty ice that are potential dangers to skaters, to the point where skaters don't even dare to skate their fastest.

wow, great job, event organizers!    seriously, just move the event elsewhere.  it gets worse every year and it's really unfair to the skaters

Like, can we change it to Grand Prix of Spain?

If I remember correctly GPF Barcelona '14 was their first ever FS event organized and they did it so. much. better. than. that.

And then, when somebody would assume that since it's only a one-time event, they went and spent all their money on that one event, no, the year after Barcelona was also great, and even from the reports it looked like the rink that was erected just for that event, was better then TdF's one, public was very supportive (granted, Yuzuru was in there, along with home favorite Javi, so it could be a given), even if part of it probably didn't know what they are watching at all... tbh it would be also opportune to ISU's idea of reviving FS in Europe- since Joubert, France didn't have a REALLY competitive solo skater, right? And James/Cipres and Papadikis/Cizeron, while great, probably cannot hold Team France up for much longer... on the opposite, you have Spain, which produced a two-time WC with ONE skater, with overwhelming amount of work to be done in promoting Figure skating...actually, any Winter Sport, now that I think about it...

Argh Wow, another totally messy GP men event... but yay for those who managed to stand on that unsteady recycled podium, and wow wow wow Misha :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

(kinda sad that a splat/popfest was needed for him to medal:facepalm:)

my AU interpretation is that all men were belatedly hit by the reality of Yuzu's WD and decided to show their solidarity in the universal language male skaters share, aka splatfest and pop concert :13877886:sorry :slinkaway:

happy that Javi could hold onto his first place, sad Shoma was so unwell, but still he fought hard  I hope he can recover fully now he has some time to get proper rest (reserving any further judgement about his FS program for when he'll skate it clean again. tho those pcs in both SP and FS... judges are so ready to give him everything if he goes clean).

But Misha!!! He was a ray of sunshine in a rather gloomy men FS (Chopin costume brought him luck)

And he got his medal! yay!

True, it doesn't even resemble a medal (different colour, size, material...he can't even wear it:smiley-laughing021::facepalm:)  but, hey, everyone can have a normal medal. He's the only one who got a wonderful (smallish) blue plastic star! It's unique! It's fab! It's... kinda depressing, but it will make for good tales for his future granchildren.

(futurefic scenario under spoiler. Sorry, I should be sleeping by now:embSwan:)

Spoiler

 *Some decades in the future*

Misha (with his SP beard, but grey) sitting by the fireplace, surrounded by his nosy granchildren.

-Have I ever told you the story of that blue star?- pointing to the blue star standing in proud display in his trophy case. it's bright and blu and it really stands out among all those other tiny pieces of metal.

-No, grandpa,- the children lie. They love to hear that story again and again! -Please, tell us!-

Granpa Misha clears his throat and touches his beard pensively, gaze lost into a distant past.

-Well,- he starts gravely, -it was the Year of the Cursed GP Season. Pain and terror reigned everywhere in the skating world, people splatted and popped all over the place, podium predictions were constantly screwed up, judges were driving people crazy and it looked as if all the fans would end dead even before the Nats bloodbaths.

It was the week after the Awfully Scary Accident had forced the Great and Beloved King of Extra out of GP and everyone was shook and panicking.

The only mascot that wasn't mourning for the King of Extra was a white fluffy Yeti that made children run away in terror, and it's not like the French Fed had the money to hire a Kumamon or a Domo-kun anyway, so....

... (please go on with the fic)*

Well, at least french fed knows how to make us *remember the name* (for the wrong reasons tho:slinkaway::smiley-laughing021:)
