why do ppl keep thinking that he will retire?! i think he actually even hinted in an interview over the past year that unfortunately he will continue.....i assume isu and usfsa would also want to capitalize on their long time investment in him

I have always been under the impression that Nathan would quit Fter these Olys to focus on school, but with the pandemic all bets are off.

Nathan's jumps are efficient, not big, not flowy, but with mostly good enough take-offs and fast rotations. Plus he has very little transitions.

I think it also helps that he has more toe pick jumps. They're less likely to be affected by bad ice quality.

Because :

1) Nathan himself said a couple of times that he will take a year off after Beijing to focus on his studies. He cannot take too much time off from Yale. He said it, Rafael said it.

THen, after that he will see how it goes.

2) There are Fanyus will not be watching FS anymore, at least the men's event, after Beijing or latest after 2022 WC. When Yuzu retires, a lot of people will stop watching FS. They don't watch then they don't see Nathan's skating.

From 4A<< at JNats to 4A fall at Olympics (I refuse to call it UR, it was less than a quarter). 1,5 months. Yuzu will land it at Worlds💪🏻

No, my bet is that Nate will retire here.

Admire Nathan? He was delivered this gold on silver plate. He didn't redeem himself, his federation did it for him.

I'm not proud of Shoma, he didn't deserve his score in FS. Yuma overscored but at least he was better

Amen!

U think he'll go to 2022 worlds then retire or retire now after beijing? I may prefer yuzu than nc, but i kinda admire him a bit, man really redeemed himself this time from 4 years ago. Anyway, congrats to yuma and shoma as well. I am so proud of them😍😍😊

I cant comment about the retirement. But I do have to congratulate Nathan hard. doing clean competitions one after another is not easy. He really proved himself to me more worthy than 4 years ago. His scores they are noises now to me. But his efforts, I do acknowledge. Props to him to stick it out another 4 years and got more consistent these last years. I think he may have wanted a different route but now he is OGM who knows. maybe he isnt going to retire soon like people think. Thats why if its up to me I hope Yuzu can just skip the next competitions. It doesnt need to be a dramatic exit or anything. He just doesnt have to answer anyone. Just rest I hope.

eta: wow at least Yuma isnt going to be the youngest ogm.

guys, do you think Yuzu will attend the Gala? I hope not.

I think he knows how many Chinese fanyus want to see him. I'd be surprised if he doesn't go.

Since he already taking 1 year off uni to prepare for the Olympic ...he might want to continue his studies back.Besides it is mostly other skater trend to retire after Olympic gold..Yuzu and maybe Plushenko the anomalies here

So for Shoma , this must feel like deja vu. Except bronze.

Well going clean is less hard when you know the judges and the fed have your back and will prop you up even if you make mistakes, and that's not admirable imo.

He's only a marginally better skater than 4 years ago (and in some ways he's worse), so he hasn't even worked to deserve his ridiculous overscoring. It's shameful in my opinion.

And now we have Yuma that is more overscored than even Nathan was in his first two senior seasons. Gonna be another quad of shit results in comps i bet.

The thing is Nate is consistent because he just jumps, nothing else. With no transitions in or out. He doesn't make himself tired through the program, he doesn't even does his spin properly. Knows the judges are with him, so psychologically in a good place too.

So nope, I don't consider his consistency anything praise worthy
