I actually think it is a fine program on the performance and interpretation side when he truly performs and not nervy and runs behind the music. Arm choreo and music cuts for the most part are nice too, one of SLB's better pieces. My problem with it tho is on the technical side (aside from jumps, which are not that good at Nats). Really empty with a whole lot of twofooted skating and crossovers and without excellent SS, flow and spins to boost.  Rondo wins in my book because it has all.

As it is, La Boheme should be performed as an exhibition piece and not competition, not if it is tentative, nervy on PE and IN and lacking in everything else.

from a technical perspective, it's a huge improvement over Rocketman. If you compare Boheme to Nathan's past SPs, it's got more in it.

If you are talking about emptiness then I think they are the same lol. But PE and IN wise, it is prolly one of his best, that I agree.

Anyway, this is skating, he gotta do something more with his feet and improve on the foundation from some years ago. I don't expect him to be anywhere near Yuzu's level but hoh boy, he has less actual skating contents than Vincent.

So Nathan got 115...Do u guys think internationally i means during the Olympic he will get the same score.I know people said its domestic overscoring but i find its sometimes not true.Domestic overscoring  sometimes influences international judges perceptions

It really bothers me that when Nathan lands his jumps, his free leg always touches the ice almost immediately and then he would turn his body and do some “choreo”; it’s like he cannot keep a running edge AT ALL with his right foot, it’s like a “cover” for an unstable landing.  Meanwhile people call him the “quad king” and supposedly he has the best jumps which is so far away from the truth.  It makes me so mad!

That kid with similar stiff knee, Ilia, is better than him in this regard TBH.

I thought the same. URs notwithstanding, Vincent is not the same skater he was in 2019, he has improved.

His Lutz looks just Ur to me tho, not sure if I will give it a DG. Do you have screenshots of the jump?

Ah but his sit spin. He should not get any points for that one.

maybe a little harsh to call that downgrade so I also listed the 4Lz as ur.

For the sit spin, although the position is not ideal, it is arguably too harsh to invalid the entire spin. Unlike his CSSp in previous years, this FSSp requires only 2 rev in sit position to become a valid spin. He did around 7 revs SF before the same-foot-jump and 2 to 3-ish revs after the jump. I think level 2 sounds fare to me.

Honestly I think that in Beijing Nathan will win and they could even be slating to put Vincent in silver because men's is likely the only place they can get US skaters to podium in Beijing cause of the overwhelming ability of the Russian women who will probably cinch a podium sweep in comparison to the rest of the field. They do not want Yuzu to come out on top and they will twist the judging any way they possibly can to suit their agenda.

jhonny and tara commentary.. they do what they have to do, they say things that are not true but they create hype for their stars.

115+ wow even for national scores idk i never get used to it, i expect but still shocked.

What i am used to is uncalled UR’s

Olympics Channel commentator is also funny. He called Malinin's 4T "quad flip" and Nathan's 4Lz "quad toe". And ARTISTRY everyone. Lol. Feel pity for the spectators in front of TV/ on YTB.

I read somewhere that his butt position is too high to be considered a sit spin, so invalid that spin altogether is not that far off. It may be harsh but considering the GOEs he gets most of the time on spins, being harshed on every once in a while should be fine. He should get what he deserves so he can improve.

Smart call on NC's part to not monkey around like a fool to Rocketman on Olympic ice.  Craftier to employ Charles Aznavour to seduce the judges on his behalf while he skates.

Artur tried 4A in US Nats! 2 footed. Under I think. and 2 hands down too.

I saw the gif rn. Very very UR. Not at all close.

The commentator said it was close, of course lol!! Never mentioned Hanyu, or his recent attempt, of course...

I just came back home from holiday and I'm just.....

My question is what should I take from Nathan’s skating? His 30 crossovers in a SP? His UR lutz but with 3+ GOE? His jumps with no running edges that are basically to cover his stepping out? His empty programs?

For real what is the highlight of Nathan’s skating? All I remember about his skating is the nonsense scores he gets for a bare minimum he does on the ice, that is “landing” some jumps. I hate to admit that even Vincent’s skating is more memorable than Nathan’s. What legacy is Nathan going to leave for FS? 115+ for that skate was an insult to audience, to figure skating as sport and to all the other skaters who fight for any point of their scores.

\end of rant, so sorry but I had to let it out of my chest

I checked out the men’s short program results for the US Nationals on Wikipedia, saw the scores, and shook my head. I refused to watch any of the performances. I could just imagine NC telegraphing his jumps. As long as he doesn’t fall, he gets high grades of execution and program component scores. It’s a given. I didn’t need the aggravation.
