As we have said before on here, Yuzuru has excellent timing and an amazing strategic brain - he is also a trailblazer - courageous, thorough, thoughtful - a leader in his sport on so many levels. Really, governing body should be making these types of statements re health of athletes, coaches, audiences, spreading of infection, long term health risks associated with contracting Covid... (maybe they will now??)

Wonder if/how this news will affect Worlds (all event) tickets cost and sales....

I was so impressed by his statement.  It is built and arranged in logical order with clear points starting from his personal concerns about asthmatic conditions with what is known and what is unknown, then explaining what would be problems if he tries to participate the competition either in Japan or Canada, and lastly the possible risks to people who would move for his activities, added with his hopes that his withdrawal may contribute to protect people from contracting the virus.

I wish I was more logical myself to explain how thoughtful he is :electricf:, but anyway I really like his selection of words and style of writing in Japanese in this case.  It's very persuasive.  I heard someone said before that his English did not sound fluent enough at first because he was trying to speak at the same level as his Japanese.  It's understandable.

As you say, I believe he has the ability to lead the figure skating world, and I'm expecting his brilliant future career like many of you.

Someone on Twitter is saying that JSF is angry at Yuzu pulling out of GP series?

 how would this person know

haters will criticize him for anything under the guise of "humility"

because they have nothing else to criticize him for

To me, he IS the last person among Japanese who could talk about humbleness :free-random-smileys-161:

Maybe they didn't like him expressing that he was worried about the people who might travel to watch *him* skate... thereby implying HE has a large fan base and he alone is responsible for them travelliny.... um, it is only the truth. He has a huge fan base, lol. He is supposed to not acknowledge them?

The guy has some connections to Nagashima (head of JSF who's not Yuzuru's biggest fan) but he's not part of JSF himself. Honestly it's most likely some weird attention grabbing stunt. Best is to ignore the guy, he wants attention for his casino or whatever.

Sorry, where did he manifest his lack of humility?

Saying fans would come to see him is allegedly not humble enough. It's just facts that he attracts crowds. Antis are reaching so far they'll pull a muscle.

This man seems somehow related to JSF?

I don't think he's affiliated with JSF, he works in the casino industry. Yuzu has his fair share of antis on Twitter. Best not to engage, in my opinion. Not worth the effort.

And if JSF is angry about Yuzu's entirely sensible and well-thought out decision, well... he's never been their favorite. What else is new?

It's so true, though! That's what makes it particularly annoying that anyone thinks Yuzu's not being humble enough by acknowledging that he draws fans to competitions. I remember the week or so before Worlds, when everyone was debating whether or not it was worth the risk to travel during a pandemic just to see Yuzuru. Personally, I knew it was probably a bad idea, but then Ballade and Seimei and the potential for a quadruple Axel were all there and I was going to grit my teeth and go, even though it was terrifying. So he's not wrong at all that his fans will reluctantly throw caution to the wind just to watch him.
