Listen! He's innocent, look at his mushroom hair! Look at his nose! (sorry, I have a childish attachment to this man since he's the only other skater besides Yuzu that I took an interest in... when I was 11), no but really, I'm sure he didn't understand right because maybe he doesn't read every interview Yuzuru gives, and maybe Yuzuru didn't spell it clearly enough for him that he took part of his music to make a tribute to HIM and not the music itself or the character behind Plushy's program. We were confused about the meaning of the program as well before we got all nerdy and discussed it here for pages on end!

ok, I personally lolled hard at Plushenko being oblivious, it looks like poor Zu couldn't get his point across that well

well, at least now he knows (and will stop asking for more Nijinsky )

 

but I'd like to add this: feel what you want about Plushenko (on and off ice), but at least he has always supported Yuzuru, and he's been doing so for a long time... actually, he's also one of the few skaters, past and current, whose fame exceeds the limited circle of FS, and he has enough fame and money and personal influence to his name that he could be talking badly about Yuzuru without caring that much about backlash. He doesn't need to worry about being invited to shows in Japan, he has his own shows in Russia and he takes part in many shows in Europe anyway (and I bet Japan would still invite him because he has his own fanbase there too)... he had no need to support Yuzuru so strongly...and repeatedly... even a generic praise once in a while would have been enough and no one would have demanded or expected more.

So I think Plushenko is honest when he says he admires Yuzuru. Maybe, when time will come for someone else to be the man at the top, Plushenko won't be saying anymore "Yuzuru is the best" (I feel bringing results is, in his eyes, necessary requisit to call someone as the best), but I think his support is sincere, even if maybe he still doesn't understand all of Yuzuru. And it's ok that he doesn't understand all of Yuzu because

1) neither of them is native english speaker, so communication isn't the best

and

2) I don't think the two of them get to talk heart-to-heart that much, I mean, we've seen how Yuzu turns into mush when Plushy preaises him I think Yuzu would still be a bit shy to talk for long and in depth...in english

and

3) Plushenko's schedule is at least as hectic as Yuzuru's, so I don't think he gets to be updated on what Yuzuru says to press, and that would be the only other source where he could have got the message that Origin is a tribute to his skating (tho again it's more of a tribute to how his skating inspired Yuzuru). Of course someone else could have said him, but it's not like everyone knows Plushenko as 'Yuzuru's hero' so I guess usually people don't go to him and say: 'whoa, must feel amazing to have Yuzuru Hanyu pay tribute to you'

Also, when Plushenko talks about Yuzuru, he actually points out qualities that are distinctly Yuzuru, so it's not like he gives empty praises just 'cause he has to say something (e.g. when he said "Because the movements of his arms and wrists are very beautiful and soft"x).

He's an athlete and he's been where Yuzuru is. He's likely one of the people who can understand Yuzuru better(*) if we talk about competitve experience. He knows what's like to aim for the top and always fight to stay up there, for years. He has felt the pressure and the expectations of a whole nation and sometimes he has let his people down, too, and he had to live with that (like when he WD form Men's single in Sochi). He's tasted the bitterness of defeat and he's skated through pain. Not to talk about all the injuries he had. He knows what's like to fight to come back every single time (which is why it's so heartwarming to think Yuzuru will read Plushenko's words, they mean a lot more coming form someone he admires and who he knows what it feels like)

 

(*) btw I feel the same about Yagudin (I would actually have thought of PC YuzuruVsShoma showdown as a Yags vs Plushy 20 years later, senior competing against a younger and very hungry countryman... well, of course the contenders to the gold were many more than two in PC, so the comparison wasn't really 100% accurate, and then there was that injury).

I'm happy both russian legends are supportive, and I'm happy Yagudin was on Yuzuru's side in the FS too...it's easy to lavish someone in praises when he wins, that yagudin was still so suporitve when Yuzuru struggled is even more significant...and it's impressive that he liked a program that is meant as a tribute to is rival. tho Yuzuru has always counted Yagudin among his faves, too. Yuzuru is a certified Plushy fanboy and he rooted for him in Salt Lake, but he admires both Yags and Plushy and he loves programs from both. After all, he knows Winter's steps by heart...

I'm still processing the whole situation since Sat. Watched sp and fs over and over. Otonal's pure beauty hits me every time I watch. It's so beautiful it hurts me so much and reduces me to tears. Re-watching fs is harder but Yuzu and his beautiful spirit emerging through the program grips me every time. Just think about his poor ankle literally gives me pains in the stomach...

 

I have some thoughts that I need to get it off the chest and because it's sensitive topics, I will put it under spoiler so those who do not wish to be down or in emotionally fragile state, please do not read.

I feel I'm powerless in the situation. All I can do is pray for his quick recovery and for his happiness. Whatever he chooses to do, as long as he's happy with the decision, I will accept it. I know it was not wise to have skated with the injured ankle but Yuzu had thought through what's his priorities. His love for Russia and desire to skate in front of them had outweighed his own health unfortunately. He couldn't see when he could skate Origin in Russia next so he had to do it. His ankle condition since the last year means he has to do things there and then all the time. At TCC media day, he mentioned about 4A and the time limit to achieve that in competition is getting closer. He must have been thinking about his ankle as well. In the interview after the fs, he explained that his ankle got not much ligament left to damage in the first place. This doesn't sound good at all. He's prone to injuries more than before because of the injury sustained last year. 

 

I personally think he should WD from GPF and JNats. He can forget about 4CC too. But I think he wants to go WC as that's held in Japan. JSF would be a laughing stock if they didn't pick him for WC because of the WD from JNats. I don't think they're that stupid but we'll see. If Shoma wins GPF, it could add some complications so I really want someone else to be on the top of the GPF podium if Yuzu can't be there. I just don't trust JSF because of the past and ongoing issues.

 

I wish someone'd slap me so I can snap out of this gloomy loop of "what if" and "can't do" kind of state of mind 

Don't get me wrong. I believe in Yuzu 100% that he will do everything he possibly can to over come obstacles but physical conditions are beyond one's control sometimes and that's what I'm talking about. Like today I was googling about stem cell injections and wondering if that could work for Yuzu's ankle. I really wish a brand new set of ankles for his birthday present...I really do.

 

Anyway, I've checked my biorhythm and today I'm in the negative emotional zone...probably monthly visitor from the moon is on its way too

 

Those who has read this section, sorry about the negativity but I just couldn't stop these negative voices in my head today.

Yuzu did skate while injured, but he also has enough sense to simplify his program. I'll call it a character development. 

Remember what he said about "Effort can lie, but will never be in vain"? He will find a way to conquer it, I have full trust in him.

(Still, since he will do it in ninja mode and we will be more anxious due to lack of updates, please rant here once in a while to let go some of the pressure)

 

I don't think skipping GPF is a big deal but Japan Nats can be an interesting situation.Since JSF has release information that Yuzu will go to the Worlds regardless of his participation in Nats, he should be able to focus on his participation in Worlds instead.  I'd rather him to skip both and not forcing himself to attend those competitions because he really does not need to prove his worth anymore. 

 

As for the current antis fake concern about having to give the position to those who 'deserve' it? Yea b*tch, go find other two Japanese male skaters beside Shoma who can get close to Yuzu's total score this season and then we'll talk.  << I've been wanting to release this pettiness inside of me since finding out about the "concern" and now am finally able to do it.   

 

Interestingly, this talks about biorhythm made me checked mine and found out that I am emotionally at -90% now (also -90% last Saturday and -100% at Sunday. Wow. Out of curiosity, I then checked mine for 23 March 2019 and it will be at +90%. I'll take that as a good omen. )

@kiches and I are still going. We're just making it more of a sightseeing trip as we won't be as diligent about attending the practices which typically cuts a lot into that  time. Vancouver's a beautiful city with a lot to do, so I'll look forward to the distraction.

Yeah I too just chalked it up to Yuzu's English not necessarily being the best and it's not Plushy's native language either (he sounds around upper intermediate himself), so I can see signals getting crossed. But as someone that lived through the bitter rivalry of Plushy and Yags, I am pleasantly floored that Yuzu is able to bring them together in a sense.  I welcome the mutual fanboying .
