This is interesting! And yes, I think I originally had listened to Max Ambesi and Angelo Dolfini's podcasts in which they explained that 14/15 had to be the 3 quads season, and 15/16 had to be the 4Loop season, but then it was all slowed down due to the Cup of Disaster and the injuries of the whole 14/15 season. I think Yuzuru had an original plan of going to the 2018 Olympics with 4 different kinds of quads. He lost 1 year. The question is: will he still try and bring 4 quads, or will he change his original plan? This stays up for questioning. (most of the people here are pretty sure he will insert 4Lz in the Free Program. I want to be sure as well, but... I'm leaving space for doubt). I don't do jumps when ice skating so I have no idea what it feels like, but in my mind, if two jumps have very different take-offs, then wouldn't it be easier to practice them separately? Like, the 4Loop has its own rhythm, and Yuzuru mastered it by now. If the 4Lz had been of a similar rhythm, maybe the two jumps would have mixed up in his mind and caused problems. But if they are diametrically opposites, then there would be no risk of that happening, right? If 4Lz ends up helping Yuzu's 4S to become one of his besties together with 3A and 4T, I will be the happiest fan in the world

dying Another useful thing I've noticed in that Brian interview is that it explained how Yuzuru practiced his 4Loop for the whole summer, and then at the beginning of the Season he proposed to add it to the programs. This is coherent with what he said about the Lz so far: not thinking about it, don't plan on putting it, yadayada. (But then, he's practicing it at Ice Shows... this little devil... so he might as well say: I'm not planning on putting it... YET...)

Reading that Brian interview, which is so insightful and made me smile so much, makes me feel like this year was such a productive year for Yuzuru. Its beginning was hard and the ground unstable, and Yuzuru was (as always, we could say) aiming for something that would make him overcome himself, be a better skater than himself. He succeeded in basically everything he set himself up to do (okay, everything except that 4CC gold LOL). I think it was the best preparation for Olympics he could ever get. Not for Olympics only, but in general for his professional growth. This is why it sounds so ridiculous when people speak of him as an 'old' skater who should start to give space to his successors. Oh, believe me, you ain't seen nothing yet.

I am sure he has to force-feed himself many times. Eating the amount of calories he needs, with the amount of training he does, must be really difficult for him! But it's very important to keep his performance and stamina at 100%. I am so happy he said he started thinking about food and health more this year. (If this forum will ever consider the idea of banning for off-topic, @Fay I am 100% sure I will be the first to go )

He sounds like someone told him "Come on! Say something to your International fans!" and he thought like "Ahahahah I can't fucking speak English"

Mmmh well, I've already expressed my love for Stravinsky... maybe I'm biased, but I think his music has the perfect balance between raw power, and the mystery and delicacy of silence, for Yuzuru's quiet and passionate skating. The balance between the ying and the yang, or man and woman, if one allows. I've brought up Debussy, but it was told to me that Debussy floats a little too close to the undefined and the ethereal, and has little moments of Romanticism - of course, since he's not a Romantic composer. I'd see Patrick Chan as one who can interpret Debussy and fulfill the "concrete" part of the program, with his deep edges, unique skating style, and very passionate, present interpretation. But I'm really just going with my nose here, heh. But to me, to think of a composer and then automatically think of a skater, that skater already has to have his own mature interpretation. I don't think that's the case with Boyang, Uno and Chen. I don't see their interpretation as mature yet. I see Boyang as present and entertaining, Uno as focused and 'lyrical', Chen as determined in nailing his technical content. To compare these three to a composer, and say they fit that composer, they first need to find themselves a little more, imo. It's normal, they need time. I don't think 2014 Yuzuru was yet perfect for Chopin. He became perfect for Chopin while he was working on it, and finding his own skating style, and finding himself.

Agreed completely. If you look at the GOE scores, it seems like the only thing Yuzuru pushed forward in skating (the only thing that's been recognized) are quads, which is just not true. He's been upping overall skating content difficulty for years, and to give the same high GOE to other skaters who don't display the same content difficulty level is like NOT recognizing that. It's exactly like looking the other way. It's not honest.

This is LEGIT the most BEAUTIFUL thing I have ever seen and will ever see for the rest of my life. THANK YOU for gifting us with this international treasure. *DIES*

This is why I'm so happy that 4T became such a bff for Yuzu. I am sure there will be much less anxiety-induced mistakes for him next year, at least in the Short. It will help him regain the judges' trust in the Short Program - and his own trust, too. I love the fact that he's able to do a high-kick after it at Ice shows, now! The High-kick after a jump is like the ultimate proof of 'how stable is the jump'. If you can do a high kick after it, then you're good to go. Off-topic is all 4T's fault. No, but really, I know that a lot of people are still worried that judges may disapprove of the three-peat... but the problem never crossed my mind. It's excellent music, much better music than a lot of other popular choices (cough Michael Bublecough), you won't hear it used from another skater, it's interpreted in a unique and profound way... no way the judges AREN'T gonna love it, imo. I think Chopin is Yuzuru's not-so-secret-weapon to get that extra-deserved extra-candies.

Ah, the quotes that you brough here @beki explain perfectly why saying that Yuzuru's skating matches with Ballade like with no other music isn't really 'underestimating' Yuzuru's skating, or denying that his skating is eclectic and multifaceted. The truth is, Ballade IS an eclectic and multifaceted piano piece - and exactly like Yuzuru's performances, each performance of Ballade is different from the other, it's a whole world of feelings and colors that continuously change. And how Chopin music is, yes, slippery but also romantic - so, with high peaks of passional drama - soft one moment and then critical the moment right after... those quotes said everything in few, simple phrases, so I don't think any more explanation is required I can't wait to see Chopin and Yuzuru together again. Next year will be a beautiful competitive year for Yuzuru's Short Program.

I wish we had that kind of elevator music. Unfortunately, we have Shoma's new programs as elevator/telephone music

I think it's just a joke, because we all say he's perfect all the time, and talk 24/7 about that, so it's amusing for some to think that maybe we found the one thing he is not extremely good at xD I think most of us would listen to him singing for hours anyways, whether he is good at it or not, tbh

Oooh, then I'll surely watch both of them. I'm already in love with both OST's. Also, I've read that long post on the International Fan Group on facebook, with all those comments from Yuzu Russian Fans. It was amazing! I am sure Yuzuru will feel all of that Russian love during CoR. He will be the most acclaimed skater, I am sure, and not only thanks to his Japanese fans travelling with him. Aaah, I really want there to be banners with the Forum's name now...
-
How was it? I've considered watching it but I thought I should prepare myself for the kind of slow historical type of Japanese movie.
-
That does sound like what would be consumed during a luxurious but regretful night.

Congratulations on your 1000 posts! Let's all celebrate watching Notte Stellata! *tries to distract you from food* Edit: (this is funnier)

Whyyyy did you have to remind me he eats savoury rice with egg for breakfaaast As an italian, I am so upset by savoury breakfasts!

Gotta love Japanese euphemisms Well... we do know he's very good at tempering chocolate!

Now I really want to see and hear Yuzuru dancing and singing the Koi dance a one man show tickets would probably be sold out in a couple of minutes

すごい 羽生君に私はちょっと心を動かされました。
-
Mmmh... I say I'll believe it when I'll hear him So yeah, someone should definitely sneak a microphone in his UA while he's singing along to his program music or something.
-
It's common for musicians to have a good ear but to have zero voice training, so they're not good at singing, but they're not bad either. Considering Yuzuru's sensitivity to music, I think he's somewhat like this: he can notice whether he's in tune or out of tune, but is not super-trained to hit every note on the first try *I enjoy talking about random Yuzuru things, please don't stop*
-
I suppose we won't know until we know I am probably biased because at this point I fell absolutely in love with all the Onmyouji OST. Also, I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms and I need to see Yuzu skate to anything so EENEUSNSRUIG.

Understanding Nagoya - from General Yuzu thread

This is super interesting. Thank you so much for sharing your analysis and thoughts. -
Not bad Shoma's confused expression is on point! But the cheekbone game of the pretend Yuzu isn't strong enough xD
