And this is why we love him.

Didn't they learn their lesson at PC? Give the kid some breathing room unless you actually want another splatfest.

I'm sure if he does I will come to love it but I hope he doesn't - I hope no one does - if tango is the SD next season I think everyone will be totally fed up with it by Christmas, especially those who are also watching the juniors.... this season by the Olympics I couldn't bear to watch the SD, and any Latin American music in pairs and singles put me right off.

I am having a hellish week - please don't wish any more MR or Turandot on us, especially bloody tango de Roxanne- I wish there could be a 5 year embargo on them, 10 on Roxanne.

The 2014 Patrick Chan and Yuzu Situation
Sombreuil replied to theblingmonster's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
Somewhere there was an article about Patrick in the lead up to Sochi, talking about his foot in mouth tendency, and concluding that it was harder for him to get away with tactlessness when his rival was a cute Japanese boy with a teddy bear rather than the 'terrifying Russian cyborg' Pluschenko. I used to dislike P because of his tendency to be a bit brattish about his own abilities and his rivals, but he's grown on me since his comeback - he seems to have grown up a bit, and none of the newcomers has his style, which though it can be a bit ponderous for my taste, is unique at the moment.- 105 replies

Grand Prix assignments and how they work
Sombreuil replied to sublimeskating's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Glad to hear it - slightly better chance he might come to Europe... -
I've had a weakness for him skating with a fan since WTT 2015 team Japan ex - Satoko too.

I am very irritable. A Nathan Chen fan has done a vid comparing him to John Curry - carefully curated bits that pick out 'balletic' arm movements and some of those transitions that got ditched as the season wore on, and conveniently leaves out the stiff legged landings and heavily telegraphed jumps. Nathan can jump but he doesn't skate fluidly enough to be compared to Curry, and superimposing the comments about Curry from the likes of Anthony Dowell over footage of both skaters sits badly with me - the implication that he is a modern day version when he cares nothing for the artistic side and has said so makes me very angry.

Well I doubt it too, but I suppose a lot depends on how heavy the course load is. Epke Zonderland managed to be World and Olympic HB champion and be a medical student in the Netherlands - not sure he could have done that and the AA as I've said before, but I'm basing my opinion on uk medical schools which tend to have very heavy workloads from the start and it just gets more onerous as you go along. I suspect Yuzurus course is something besides skating that keeps him busy and out of what most people would consider a 'normal ' social life.

Mmmm- I know what you mean, but I'm not sure how much reliance one should place on these post competition interviews. People are tired, or elated, and don't always mean what they seem to say. Also he's not exactly fluent in English so he tends to speak in simple terms without the nuance he would use if he were speaking Japanese. I agree with you about bad technique - judges can decide to 'see' UR etc whenever they choose, whatever they may have overlooked in the past.

I got quite annoyed during the Olympics when some commentators were implying that Jun Hwan Cha was somehow the new YH based presumably on being Asian and having the same coach- why can't they let him be himself - same goes for all of them. I'm hoping that Boyang can continue to improve - he seems to me to be the one who is doing the work to gradually work up to the full package. Maybe now the Olympic pressure is off and the toxic media attention has moved elsewhere the others might think of doing the same- unless they start trying to kill themselves trying to beat Yuzuru to land Nessie but I don't see any 3A out there that suggests that is likely.

I'm really glad he's taking care of this injury. I hope he manages to enjoy the break.

I can't help looking at those purple curtains and the purple part of the costume and the purple and green skate guards and remember all those pages of speculation last summer about costumes when he appeared with red and blue guards. All in the plan.....

Italian version of a covert coat- extra velvet! He'd be better off in made to measure - Savile Row - Anderson & Sheppard, they were Fred Astaires tailors, know how to cut formal clothes for active people!
-
The coat is a very traditional English overcoat that evolved from a hunting jacket - it's called a covert coat - tweed with a velvet collar. I have a relative who is a very snappy dresser and he loves them.

It may be blocked outside Europe, but Eurovision Sport has it listed for tomorrow http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9mSs2Qa85tasmgAqGOA3YlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTByaW11dnNvBGNvbG8DaXIyBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg--/RV=2/RE=1520198555/RO=10/RU=http%3a%2f%2fwww.eurovisionsports.tv%2f/RK=2/RS=85iu4iJL78lAMxzJa47iwzenDh4-

Midori Ito the first woman to jump the 3A had quite a stocky build. I don't like the criticisms one sees all over social media of athletes physiques - haven't there been enough cases of eating disorders in skating and gymnastics to put an end to this?
-
Fair enough - perhaps it was his own stubbornness that made him skate on that occasion, unnecessarily. I hope that Tanaka and Mura manage to do themselves justice on this occasion.

I quite liked Yu/Zhangs swan/Rothbart, but totally agree about the rest of the swans.
