God, I loved that little sequence......

I agree completely - but especially about not begrudging any potential victor ( at least not by banging on about it on social media- I might have a private whinge) as happened with fans of others when Yuzuru began to win. It's petty and pointless.

Costumes we love to hate
Sombreuil replied to Sombreuil's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
What was the thinking - is the music relevant? Can we put Della Monica and Guarise in pleease ? I found a great photo of the turquoise and cobalt unitards in a death spiral with the man bun in profile but the wretched thing wouldn't copy across - help? Never mind they're on the previous page - my poor eyes -
The GOAT business - could I care less? It's just that we all know that if he were Japanese American there wouldn't be any question in Hersh's alleged mind? Or indeed if Button had been Russian....

2018/2019 Season Program Announcements
Sombreuil replied to kaeryth's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Not sure he qualifies as a warhorse but between Javier and Mikhail the last two seasons I don't want to have to listen to Elvis anytime soon..... -
Quite a few of us love Phantom, including me, and I can't stand the actual musical, but I'm not sure we want it resurrected this season. I think we're all ready for something new, though some 'big' music like that would be great.

Hersh. Meh - I'm sorry, I'm sure Button was a wonderful skater but he was competing immediately post WW2, in a severely depleted field, with most skating countries outside N America having lost their sports facilities due to the war and for the same reason with no money to replace them. Few young men and no rinks or money for training. Frankly it would have been a bloody miracle for anyone other than a young ( therefore not enlisted) American or Canadian to have won. I'm having a horrible month and I lost patience with this crap before the Olympics.

Aaaaand Phantom rears its lovely head again...... cue panic

@micaelis If you substitute quads for triples and double axel for triple axel this was the best of the 70s with no lack of transitions or step sequences.

Mmm- football is a lifelong virus. It's a pity there isn't anyone coming up to keep things ticking over...
-
If he wants to promote FS in Spain ( or indeed his own career) he needs to be the unreconstructed football loving Latin bloke and grab these opportunities.

The black and white version of this photo has been my wallpaper on my phone since January - my favourite too

I know that the title of this is what would we like to see him use, but after the chat on the main thread, I have to go slightly off topic and say I'm really interested to see what he goes for after that quote about just skating to what he wants ....
-
He could probably keep up with Zigeunerweisen a lot better now.
-
Who knows what he's got bubbling around in that brain? Could be new and surprising like Seimei, could equally be a warhorse that everyone has dissuaded him from up to now - remember Phantom? Or he could have something from Johnny or Pluschenkos back catalogue in mind.....
-
Please, I beg you, don't wish for Turandot.....

Think about it - it's the programme that launched the whole Planet.....

Historically in Europe the men of the aristocracy were as flamboyantly dressed as the women - power dressing meant silk and velvet and lace, jewellery, make up, wigs - the works:- there are several Restoration comedies on in the West End and at Stratford at the moment and the costumes are fabulous - @Xen is right, it was the late Georgian/Victorian era that gradually dulled down men's fashion.

Don't forget 'ton ton ton ' for the beginners.....

I can appreciate LGC for its complexity and his performance whilst disliking the song. I think he does rock well - I just wish JB had pointed him in the direction of one of the other rock stars instead of Prince. I have never seen him live, but even through the tv you can see the way that even in practices the atmosphere in the rink ramps up as soon as he appears - that is what we mean by the rock star aura. If he had used Bowie I wouldn't have expected him to try and be Bowie - I would have been interested to see how he interpreted whatever track he chose. As for the generation thing - we're a mixed bunch here, from dinosaurs like me through to a few who are still at school - it's perhaps less of a factor than one might think.
-
Enough recycling - he said himself he wants, 'If I still skating' ( Finland tv interview? ) to try different kinds of music - so he should go for it - Jpop, classical, show tunes, rock, jazz etc etcetc - just for the love of all and every and any gods 3 new programmes.🙏🏻

What a wasted opportunity- you get an interview with Hanyu and instead of using an interpreter and asking some good questions about skating and jumps and transitions and getting a flood of rapid fire answers translated you a) ask the same old tired questions you must have heard the answers to 100 times and b) make him speak English which must cut the length of the response by at least half and render it devoid of any nuance he might use speaking Japanese. Idiot English interviewer. I suppose he did garner a variation on the Pooh answer but still.....waste Podcast. https://youtu.be/faSJEm6Hjgk

I just like to watch him skate - and if you forget about the jumps I like to see Satoko skate - so I wish there was a camera with a better angle which took both of them in.

I think under UK law his privacy would be protected unless he signed a contract - I don't think you can just make a film about someone here unless they've agreed or the film maker can show that it's 'in the public interest'. That is my very hazy recollection which I don't have time to chase down at the moment. I don't recall much but the case law I remember was on situations where individuals had signed contracts they later wished they hadn't - cant remember anything about any film where the subject hadn't agreed apart from exposes, which if there's a bit of evidence of wrongdoing tend to pass the public interest requirement. Not likely to be uk law anyway - and I don't know anything at all about Japanese law.

It's his life. Wouldn't they need his permission? And given his level of control over what ads he does etc, isn't he likely to either refuse or retain a JK Rowling like control over any film?
