  1. The problem with hype - yes it's great that Nathan got into Yale, but getting in is just the beginning- now he's got to adjust to a higher level of study etc etc. Yale will make concessions and help where they can but at the end of the day he still has to get the grades. I don't know about the US but in the UK to do medicine you have to maintain 50% + in all subjects - slip a mark below 50% in anything and you have to retake, and you're only allowed one second chance. It's also very time consuming- pretty much 9-5 plus prep in the evenings/ weekends. I know he's going to do pre med but it's still an ambitious plan. At least the timing works for him- it's the post Olympic season so if he does get into difficulties he's got time to rethink and postpone if he decides it's too much and he wants to give the skating priority for a while.
  2. You had the right word - judicious use, not indiscriminate
  3. Mmmm- so he'll get rid of most of them 🤞🏻
  4. Just woke up and read what for me was the overnight stuff and it occurred to me - iirc BO isn't a fan of tanos/rippons - will he convince her to drop some/ most of them?
  5. I bet wtfskatingdoodles could come up with an approximation...
  6. Brian rebuffed JSF over Mao and YuNa left anyway....
  7. Tracy said it in an interview about Y/J which referenced Yagudin/Pluschenko rivalry - it can work if everyone is a nice person ...
  8. If that was a realistic possibility and it does take her out I’m sorry for it
  9. If she has any sense she’ll follow Ys example and shut down social media
  10. Shippers will be a social media problem if she were to go there but is anyone seriously suggesting it should influence anyone’s decision?
  11. Please whatever happens let her get new choreographers 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
  12. I'm not an enormous Jason fan - he reminds me of a friend's Labrador puppy and I'm a cat person- but I hope he manages to settle his coaching situation satisfactorily. I don't think the drifting around did many favours to Patrick Chan the last three years, he seemed directionless and I think if there had been a person who could have given him some plain speaking help (though I'm not sure he would have been open to it) he might have fared better. I wouldn't like to see Jason go adrift.
  13. Well I'm not sure that people here would welcome a 25 page derailing of the General Skating Chat thread. I'm personally interested in @Xens query re skating schools in general - I liked that post about the Japanese schools and would welcome something similar re NA, Europe, etc
  14. It's an ambitious plan and it will be interesting to see how it pans out. I have watched several people over the years go to the most prestigious universities in the uk and even without the elite sports part it is very tough to suddenly find that you are no longer the best in your academic year, in fact you're lucky to be average tbh because everyone is very clever, hardworking etcetc to have got there in the first place. Some cope beautifully - I particularly remember one individual who led a hermit like existence submerged in their particular field of study expecting to spend their life as a theoretical academic, who quickly realising that the ultimate academic accolades they had hoped for were going to be out of reach, went out and got a life alongside their studies and eventually a very successful and lucrative career. Others coped less well. Throw in the sport and it's a hard thing to balance.
  15. DW Fernandez special - Dick Button's going to love it - Sinatraesque, collar and tie costume ( though with added TJ sparkles).
  16. Well, it depends what they pick - this could be charming- and not too heavy. Still a tutu risk but you can't have everything.
  17. I loved Phantom, but I'm like a child at Christmas, I want something new and shiny and surprising. I want to know (and see) what he was thinking of when he expressed the desire to try different kinds of music. He's in a very small category of skaters that I won't mind if he picks a warhorse because he will bring a new perspective to it, but I'd prefer it to be one he hadn't tackled before.
  18. And that takes us into the thorny area of 'when are you an adult' - 16, 18, 20?. That varies across the world and across cultures. Over the years in the uk most of the historical anomalies have levelled out and it's pretty much standardised at 18, ( driving, alcohol, voting,) but the age of consent for sex is 16....... Rugby is a dangerous game and they have a tiered system for the age at which teenagers can participate in the full on contact version of the sport - perhaps something like that might do the trick, but it took a number of bad accidents before the powers that be addressed the issue.
  19. One problem that isn't addressed is the training issue - you don't protect the under age adolescents from anything but actual competition- there is nothing to stop them from training all these potentially damaging jumps before the required age in the hope that they will make it through puberty etc.
  20. Nooooo- you're not supposed to like that idea- you saw the scruffy cygnet costume
  21. Course not- there's Cinderella, Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, Giselle, Coppelia......actually Coppelia might be age appropriate and a bit more lively. I might be able to cope with that.
  22. Hey, they've already picked Phantom..
  23. I wouldn't bet against the tutu - they could pick the corps de ballet character from PoTO. If they're lurking there's a whole warhorse thread to use as a musical smorgasbord.......
  24. Hope you feel a lot better very soon
  25. Thank you for setting all this up a year ago - after my first disastrous attempt at joining a forum I almost didn't join this one - I'm so glad I did 🥂 🎁 🎂
