Han is 5'7'' according to the internet. I love Sui/Han for many reasons, but one of them is that they are a normally proportionate couple. Han is just fabulous. But I can't really imagine Yuzuru as part of a pair - can't imagine him wanting to.

Team we're fewer but still good!

I really liked her SP last season - also hers was the only unitard (apart from Vanessa's ) that I liked. -
It's a piece of self indulgent navel gazing - ignore it .

Sooo pleased for you after NHK

I can't say I approve of the way the Chinese fed chops and changes its pairs and seems to dictate that individuals should move to pairs/dance, but looking at this there must be some room for JSF to encourage some of the talented but less successful singles to consider trying it?

This is quite an old fashioned attitude which I have noticed from US media- they seem stuck in the 70s and 80s when skaters in countries without state sponsored sport almost always automatically cashed in on their Olympic or Worlds success by going professional- like Brian Orser, Torville and Dean etc. because that was their only option to make some money out of all those years of hard work. Now that they can have lucrative sponsorships and skate in shows in the off season there isn't quite the same financial need to rush out of competition. Yuzuru according to his coach 'loves to skate' he seems to love to compete and likes to push the boundaries- he would have fun in shows but I think at the moment he would miss the rush of competition - I think he's like Pluschenko in that respect. I don't know if he will go to Beijing and I wish people would stop asking about it- I do think that if his ankle continues to recover he will carry on for a while. How long depends on many factors but I doubt that the opinions of the media will be one of them.

I know it's been said before but it isn't the criteria that need fixing, it's the way in which judges are selected and paid and therefore influenced by skating federations; also the fact that ISU doesnt police their decisions. You can clean up a car, give it a new paint job, reupholster the seats, but if the gearbox is shot it still won't work. All this is just window dressing.

Didn't Taipei have it last season? When the lights kept going out at the gala?

Said it before- Savile Row, Anderson&Sheppard, Fred Astaire's tailors - or failing them get whichever tv company sent Uchimura to Paul Smith to do the same for Hanyu.

I should think someone who is willing to talk, has something interesting to say and isn't paralysed by nerves/doesn't know what to say must be a refreshing change for the Emperor and Empress - I always get the impression whenever I see footage of the Queen doing this stuff that she's on automatic pilot - then once in a while she actually gets animated, like when she met the puppeteers from the cast of the play 'Warhorse' - it's a nice change I should think.

@AltieIt was disappointing- and it pointed up the difference between him and Boyang, sort of confirmed the impression that he wanted gold, right now and then he was going to be gone a la Tara Lipinski, whereas Boyang worked really hard on his programmes, even that uninspiring ( throwing roses at it tbh) FS. @cinemacoconut well every single fandom has its super obsessive groups which run in blinkers including Yuzuru's. As far as Nemesis is concerned I thought it had the potential to be N's Pari-San - in the same way that Jeff used that music to make the 19 year old YHs somewhat flailing arms a plus rather than a minus , SLB used Nemesis to capitalise on Nathan's tendency to abrupt slightly jerky movement into a stylistic thing rather than a negative one.

Amen to this - especially the last part. Nemesis - what a waste of Shae-lynn Bourne's genius. Also Yuzuru's only real competitor is himself.......

I think it would be tactless - there are a lot of respected summer Olympic veterans that one would expect to be chosen before a current winter Olympian, the great Sawao Kato to name one off the top of my head.
-
He's saying that the success of the parade is evidence of momentum presumably of support for the idea of the summer Olympics, which the JOC should be capitalising on which is simply not the case- he's misreading the situation, because he hasn't really checked what the event was about. Typical.
-
How the hell is the Tokyo committee responsible for the summer Olympics supposed to use a winter Olympic medallists popularity? It isn't an outpouring of support for the Olympic movement or sport in general or even figure skating - it isn't a national phenomenon either- it's a very specific expression of support and gratitude from his home town to one exceptional individual. Does anyone in the upper echelons of sports governing bodies ever do any homework before they come out with these soundbites?

Mmm- the warhorse thread fills me with dread....

He'd find the Scissorhands hair easy enough- just do a few energetic spins in the warm up and ready to go - save a fortune in hair products!
-
I liked that so much -it would be great. I still have a yen for the demon barber's Epiphany - or some Danny Elfmann - he'd make a great Edward Scissorhands, but neither lends itself to the costumes he likes

And wholesale borrowing from ballet can look terrible on the ice - look at Alinas tutus for gods sake, flapping about because a skater moves a lot faster than a ballet dancer, even if you use ballet music the dynamic of the movement across the ice is quite different from that across a stage/studio floor. Somewhere on one of these threads there are the opinions of several dancers on the subject and iirc they were of the opinion that some of it transfers and some does not. Arm movements, limb extensions etc. But it stands to reason that if your boots are stiff enough to protect your ankles when landing a quad they aren't going to be flexible enough for ballet toes and they don't need to be.

TSL used to witter on about it.

That's how I've navigated the site from day1. Occasionally I want to look back at something and then the search function is helpful. Also I bookmark stuff I really like/don't have time to look at but want to come back to which is really useful.

The language barrier was one of the reasons (obviously along with others) that I hoped they might use Misha Ge as a choreographer for Boyang.

Beethoven Archduke trio - there's a bit in the middle that would be great - piano, violin and cello. https://youtu.be/C_lD8UhHAEA
