Mistakes are a part of life - if it were one or two fair enough. But there are loads of them and often about the top ten. If I made as many mistakes and did as little research as these people do I would have been out of a job years ago. I am someone who occasionally watches with non skating fans, namely my family. It is extremely annoying to have to add them taking the commentators word for it to all their other odd conceptions and weird biases that annoy me. The likes of Robin Cousins and Hanratty should be putting their non skating colleagues straight not joining in with them.

I totally disagree- they are indeed ‘ working stiffs’ and are being paid very well to do a job . Half the time they get names wrong, do no research about even the top ten skaters never mind the rest, come up with wrong facts, cannot identify jumps etc etc. It wouldn’t be tolerated in a football or cricketing commentator so why should FS fans have to put up with it?

The Brewdog chain do a hibiscus and yuzu pale ale which seems very popular https://mobile.twitter.com/BrewDog/status/992359195654656001/photo/1

And it’s not just Yuzuru, Shoma, Nathan, Boyang - Yuzuru knew that new faces would emerge between Sochi and PC and he was absolutely correct. There will be new names and faces emerging between now and 2022.

So what we really want is a small foundation for some real speculation. 🍷

Nathan and Shoma are relative newcomers - in the beginning it was Patrick Chan, and to a lesser extent because of his injury, Takahashi, plus the likes of Kovtun and Machida, that were the external rivals. I’m sure that over the years Yuzuru has assessed all of them quite accurately- he knew at Sochi that new skaters would emerge by PC, and laid his plans for new jumps etc accordingly. It’s the greatest pity that he was derailed by injury but who knows? If he had totally dominated throughout those years he might be moving on to new challenges now instead of continuing. It’s a great sporting friendship, far preferable to the unpleasant Pluschenko/Yagudin feud, and it seems to have encouraged a friendly rivalry ethos in those younger than them which is nice to see.

I hope someone somewhere is thinking of doing a study of this. I would never wish for the regime of the old East Germany or Soviet sports ‘medicine’ but although the price paid by the participants was far too high and in no way worth it, they did at least keep records from which it would be possible to draw conclusions supported by data. It would be interesting if someone could persuade some of the teenagers who gave up early for health reasons to disclose their records to a reputable study group. Coaches might then be able to more accurately plot the course for all these eager children - because I’m sorry, however strong minded they may seem they are young, with the thought processes of the young, which include an inability to think beyond the next season. Watch Yulia Lipnitskayas YouTube footage for pre Sochi - she was confident and strong minded too.

This is the kind of thing that keeps me away from twitter etc. I hear enough idiocy irl without needing to stoke my BP with that stuff. -

tactful.... -
Not sure that particular one needs a rationale beyond being decorative. Yes from his interviews he was doing Romeo for R&J1 and Juliet for R&J 2. I myself don’t always like his costumes -I can take or leave TFTT, I love R&J 2. That’s a question of personal taste.

As an experiment I played the music arrangement of PotO for Alina and Yuzuru to the ALW fans in my family - just the music, not the skating videos. They were horrified at the sacrilege of cutting it into bits at all 🙄, but once the concept was explained they were OK with Yuzuru’s arrangement but still horrified by Alinas. I listen when I have to but these two love Phantom and know it by heart- they think Alinas arrangement is just chopped up bits with no thought to the flow- I wouldn’t say they were happy with Ys version but they can see that it was put together with thought and care towards the music.

Ice shows - it’s interesting to get a look at new programmes but the conditions aren’t ideal and people will improve or regress as the season gets going properly. I wish Alinas team would take a long hard look at that mess and be honest with themselves and her but it probably won’t happen. -

To be fair the lighting and the dark blue top exaggerate it, but he’s always been stiff. I’ve never seen any balletic movement - flailing arms which non NA skaters always get pulled up on, but otherwise he’s like a stop motion animation - but take out the jumps and there’s nothing but arms and a mediocre spread eagle - even the jumps have a stiff legged landing. He’s a nice boy, with long term ambitions that dont necessarily include skating, but without USFSA he wouldn’t be on the radar. -

Alinas music is horrible - it would be hard to use all those cuts in the FP, in the SP it’s impossible - looks like they settled the choreography then chopped up th music to fit. I’m no fan of ALW but he doesn’t deserve this butchery. -

I think it’s hard to judge when they introduce a programme at an ice show - the rinks are smaller and the lighting poor and the audience looks so close. I think they’ll do better in actual competition. -
