I don't think Vincent thinks of himself as Yuzuru's competitor for gold, but at most a medal contender. In fact, he's not even a shoo-in for the team. So it makes sense for him to focus on his strengths now since PCS takes a while to increase the "normal" way. It's like, what are the chances of him winning a medal with 3 quads and a slight bump in PCS working on skating skills? Probably lower than his chances of winning a medal with 6 quads and a slight bump in PCS from having 6 quads, lol. What do you think his average placement at the Olympics is gonna be in each case? Probably the same, but one of those choices has a higher variance. Anyway, I think Vincent is a very smart and nice kid and I wish him the best of luck!

Newbies Skating Chat & Questions
yuzuangel replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
About spin and step sequence levels... I know spin levels are determined by things like number of rotations & different positions hit. For something like the Biellmann I know Yuzu holds it for 3 rotations. And step sequence levels are determined by things like number of difficult steps like choctaws, twizzles, etc. If you need X number of rotations/Y number of steps, why don't skaters just plan for, say, X+1 rotations of a position or Y+1 steps so if they miss one they can still get Level 4's and be safe? It's not like the free skate is so short that there's no time for even one extra spin rotation. Is it because of stamina? Speaking of which, can someone point me to the exact moment here when Yuna missed her choctaw (which turned into a mohawk) and because of that lost levels in her step sequence? Thank you -
all of this hoping so hard!

YAY!!

To be fair, young girls have been doing quads for a while. Miki has done quads in competition, Mao has trained quads as a junior skater, Yuna said she has tried triple axel as a junior skater...but most of the time they lose it by the time they get to seniors.

Lol, they could both want to go to Harvard. It's not mutually exclusive. I'm guessing someone who skips grades, gets straight A's, and has tons of volunteering activities is aiming for a strong non-skating resume.

I don't think Vincent wants to stay a while in the sport, though. I have a feeling if he makes the Olympics this year he might retire. At most he will stay until 2022. Looking at his Wikipedia page, I see him wanting to go to Harvard and pursuing a non-skating path, not having a long skating career or becoming a professional skater/coach/choreographer of some sort.

3A is not gonna be easy for her. She didn't fall, but she'll probably get far fewer points for it than a 2A. But hey, even if she doesn't rotate it, she still has 7 triples! I hope the rest of her jumps were rotated..

Hey! That's me when it comes to any photography!! That and "Well there's always photoshop to completely recreate the scene from 5 different photos, each where only one thing is correctly focused" haha (I rely on photoshop too much perhaps).

I'm surprised you could photograph at all, I know if I were watching Yuzu I wouldn't risk the millisecond it takes for me to move my eye to the lens -- I might miss something!! LOL. Or I just wouldn't be able to take my eyes off of him. Anyway, manual focus for sports photography sounds so hard. Maybe I mostly work with portrait lenses (like >50mm) but focusing takes minutes and sometimes is still slightly off haha.

Actually one of your photos of yuzu is one of my favorite photos ever!

Satoko skated to Miss Saigon, which is another Asian warhorse, and made it uniquely hers. So I have no doubt she will do the same with Madame Butterfly.

Maybe copyright reasons? Like it's harder to use the real thing. Just a complete speculation here haha.
