So I basically said screw work and made some banners. Please pardon the overexposure. And I like textures. Edit May 17: Fixed links due to some modifications and additions. Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements

I love it! First time I actually ever heard this song was on [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX42SzaNcB4]an audition for So You Think You Can Dance[/link]. Beautiful music and beautiful dancer too! Julian is going to do great with it. -
My third time voting, after the poll issues, and I didn't even notice we could choose up to 3 programs, so I only selected two again. I need a facepalm smiley.

Probably my favorite costume, or at least the one that speaks to my aesthetics the most. The line of his legs going into his waist/belt then the lovely gradient of the shirt. I just have a special attachment to this one, especially because I love his Chopin program, though there are other costumes I absolutely love too. Short answer: because it's ISU XD On slow motion you can see a cheated take off well enough, but let's say you called for an edge review a flip ( or a lutz) and you didn't call the cheated take off in real time. You get the slow motion to check the edge and you can see the jump is cheated (prerotation of 180° or more ) but you can't change your original call (no cheated jump) (Sorry for the off topic!) I think it's absurd how they have to judge so many things right on the spot. not everything can be observed at once on the first try, so at least allow them to correct wrong calls! Is that too much logic to ask? Figure skating is a spectator sport, and especially with television broadcast, you don't want the judging/scoring to take too long in coming so people don't stop watching at home. Hence not a really long time allowed to double check and change much of anything. @ anyanee: I love your avatar. That cat is judging all of us.

I'm curious now, I'd like to see this too. Last black costume with accents suggestion I remember seeing was this drawing by runrun by I don't think this is what you meant.

Yes, knowing Yuzuru's OCD personality, I wouldn't be surprised he has had like 5 pairs each season just to be safe. I think the issue with Nathan might be that he is still growing so his boots couldn't fit after a few months? One interesting point about Yuzuru, we never ever heard he says anything about boot issues. And we know Yuzuru is super picky and that his foots have special sizes. He once said he wore EDEA and has to choose bigger size than his true size because their boots are narrow. I am sure Yuzuru has boot issues just like any other skaters. He just doesn't tell us. Yeah, that is a good point. Nathan can't really have many spare pairs of boots because who knows when they'll stop fitting, so he can only order spare boots shortly before he may need them. I remember, when I was still lurking in GS and backtracking through the 2016/2017 season to find out more about what was going on in Hanyu world that Yuzu did have some issues with his Edea Piano boots, that he changed to at the beginning of the season, around the time of ACI. But it wasn't him mentioning this; I think it was Shirota.

I think it's hard to tell how many, cause unlike most of skaters he doesn't wear one pair until it falls aparts, then next pair and so on. According to Yoshida Toshinobu, person who sharpens his blades, Yuzu chooses several pairs that fit the best from boots send to him by maker (Edea) and uses them during the season. Every few weeks Yuzu sends Yoshida boots by air, Yoshida sharpens blades and sends back. In article back in 2014 Yoshida said that each pair lasts for about 3 months for him, 4 pairs for one season. Thank you. This actually seems like a logical procedure most skaters would take, which is why Nathan's situation seemed a bit atypical to me. I figure skaters would have at least one or two extra and broken in pair of boots so every time they'd need to sharpen their blades or whenever some were in poorer condition, they'd have another pair ready to go. So, when do we think Yuzu will show us his new black blades. I mean, it seems we all believe one of the special edition John Wilson black blades that were given to Plushenko and Nathan Chen, were also for Yuzu, right?

You know, I wonder how many members/guests who didn't keep up with or catch this convo back in the old FF are super confused about what we're up to here.

You're right there. I forgot the Olympics are going to be geared to the common denominator watching on TV (hence all the warhorses) so the judging is going to be wild.

But not for them. They're ambitious youngsters. This is what they want. Nathan wants to win OGM so he can (probably) r**** and go study medicine; Shoma wants to get out from under Yuzu's shadow. And they want to win, as much as anyone else, and thus their strategy of choice. And if their strategies are rewarded, why would they change them just to satisfy someone else's idea of what a good victory would be?

I'm not sure if it's an obsession so much as a wish to surpass the one on top, who happens to be his own countryman. Though I do think with both being from Japan, it increases Shoma's ambition to surpass him now, now, now! Which leads to unfortunate decisions like trying to train a 4Lz when you have a terrible relationship with the 3Lz. There's a reason Yuzu isn't very keen on training a 4F. well in any case he's obsessed to be on top, and it obviously isn't a healthy motivation. As much as yuzu wanted to be on top when he was younger, he retained a mature mind-set and seeks to improve himself to win against himself. not continuously thinking about how to slaughter someone (worst, not in a very smart way) Also, I love that yuzu doesn't sit there and hope that people doesn't catch any mistakes, because he leaves none to be a caught  Do remember that back when Yuzu was younger and developing and up until the 2015/2016 season, there really was no need to insert a large number of quads in a program to get to the top. The motivations were different, the thinking was different, the skating attitudes were different. Then 2015/2016 happened, a mix of Boyang landing 4-quad FS with a 4Lz and Yuzu breaking records twice, and there was a paradigm shift. And suddenly to catch up you couldn't do it gradually, you had to get all your eggs in a basket, especially if you were an ambitious young senior. Shoma, Nathan and the young juniors coming into Senior this next season, are all part of this new paradigm.

Wasn't he supposed to have tried 4Lz at the end of some of his successful runthroughs at TCC, instead of the 3Lz? I wonder how that went.

Look, even if Shoma really does go ahead and train a 4Lz, I don't think the technical panel is going to be as lenient to a 4Flutz as they are with a pre-rotated 4F. Especially if Yuzu decides to bring a 4Lz into Oly season too. And Kolyada manages to land his. That'd be two new (potential) textbook perfect 4Lz there, adding to Boyang's (and in a lesser way, Nathan's), and would fuel comparisons. Unless he fixes his edge in one off-season at the same time he learns the 4Lz, which doesn't seem like such an easy thing to do, to learn both a new quad and fix a long-standing edge issue. He's better off just going for the 4S no matter that he thinks a higher BV quad is the way to go, and I hope he will eventually see that too. Anyways, I've been meaning to ask something, not sure if it's the best place here for it. How many boots does Yuzu usually go through, do you guys know? Reading about how Nathan goes through a pair of boots every 1-2 months makes me wonder if this is normal or is it just because Nathan trains so many quads and/or seems to have heavier landings than Yuzu, Javi or Patrick?

Basically this General chat functions much like the old GS FanFest used to work, where we pretty much bring everything here. Right now there's not many news, but most of them will likely be posted here first and then eventually archived in the General News & Updates (to make it easier for people to see news) and in other specific threads in the Great Skate Debate subforum. Occasionally members will open up threads for certain subjects. There are a few other threads going in this particular subforum about costumes, music choices, daily photo, layouts, etc., and you can try and read up on them if the subject interests you. I think the mods will also try to clean up any repeat threads going on, just so people don't clutter the forums with the same things. Usually people try and keep up with the General chat (the little red icon before a thread's title will lead you to the first new post since your last visit, by the way, which makes keeping up much easier) and then branch out to discuss specific topics in other threads. Right now, though, since there's not many news, the General chat is not particularly on topic all the time currently.
