It's that time of the year - coaching changes 2019/2020

I was thinking Mao Asada's Japanese coach, the one who reworked her jumps.

Its not so much finding top coach for male skaters, its finding a jump specialist.

You must be talking about Nobuo Sato. This article was published in last summer, but here he said he was still coaching with fewer students than before.

Have we considered one solid clue that the Shoma to Javi jokes might be real? Shoma is about the same size as the smol skating beans that Javi taught in Sendai so Javi has experience now.

I've been thinking for a while that it would be good for Shoma to switch coaches, have some changes and get some fresh, new impulses. But I'm still surprised that he's actually doing it after all! :knc_yuzu1:

He's willing to leave the comfort of his familiar surroundings and make a major change. Good for him! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Shoma can make some serious improvements with his new coach. Congratulations to a new beginning and a new life! :tumblr_inline_n18qrbDQJn1qid2nw:

So Jack Gallagher thinks Shoma's not going to NA but Russia (it's closer to Japan at least?)

Ice Time learned two months ago about three-time Japan champion Uno possibly joining Tutberidze. Reports in the Russian media in recent weeks have also confirmed that Uno’s camp has talked with Tutberidze’s people.

Uncle Jack should stop testing people's patience.

If he does go to Russia, I hope it's with Mishin, but I am also wondering who will choreograph for him. Will TAT consider him to be another exemption? She did do Tsurskaya's programs, and Gubanova's, although they were both CSKA. Morozov? REALLY hope it's not Gleikhenghauz or Averbukh.

Now it's clear that Jack talked about Shoma a few weeks ago in that mysterious tweet. I don't think it's professional how he handles the situation as a journalist.

I hope it's Mishin, too and not Tutberidze.

Curious, though... I don't think Uno is great at English (never seen him speak it in interviews)... I think Mishin and Tutberidze both speak English, but how will this work out?

Didn’t Brian say when Yuzu first moved to him he spoke next to no English and Brian would have to get an interpreter on the phone during training? Iirc he was impressed by how agreeable Yuzu was at first until he realised he was just saying “yes” to everything because he couldn’t understand anything. :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

I guess Shoma being older than Yuzu at the time of the switch would make it a trickier problem.

I don't think Shoma speaks any English, he doesn't even understand much I think. The federation could send an interpreter with him, that wouldn't be the biggest issue.

If Shoma's manager agrees to go with then no problem. His manager can speak English.

There's also demi san, Shoma's trainer/physio. Though I'm not sure if Demi san speaks English.

I don’t think it makes any difference- if he leaves Japan he’ll need interpreters so it doesn’t matter if they’re Russian, English , French, whatever.  Shoma has always seemed to wander round in a bubble of his own from his own comments and those of people around him - not sure he would notice whether street signs were in western alphabet, Cyrillic, Norse runes......

Yuzuru did a short spell in Russia polishing the choreo for R&J 2, might have gone to Russia instead of Canada  and I think there’s a lot of admiration in Japanese skating circles for the Russian style of skating.  Here’s a thought out of me musing on 4Lz - Mikhail Kolyadas is a thing of beauty when he lands it - and he and Shoma have appeared friendly at ice shows etc. Why not his coach?

Not a great record with her students, I am afraid. Neither of them is particularly successful.

It is doubtful that Uno will be getting a complete technical rehaul, no matter where he goes, so he won't be landing any 4Lz like that. Plus, Chebotareva did teach Kolyada, but she did also teach Konstantinova whose technique is pretty terrible, and neither is particularly consistent.
