[2019] World Championships - Men Free Skating

Yeah, I don't want to say I told you so, but well, understanding judges' mentality comes easily to me. It's a curse. But Chen deserved it, even if not the LP win, IMO. I also thought Boyang going top 6 was easy, but also thought "clean" Zhou would be placed over him with more PCS. I am not looking forward to NBC's godawful "OmmGggG guys, cHilDreN oF ImMigrAntS ArE ReTurNiNg to ThEir MoTherLAnD to RuLe~~~~" narrative now.

I tuned in for the step sequence really, before that not so much. They are clever in choosing music that works with his natural line and skating quality, as it gels well. He was doing some nice abstract movement in the step sequence, for the first time doing it with correct posture and attention to detail. Apart from that, I have already spoken about how his program sucks. As a performer, and in terms of packaging himself, though, he has defo improved since we last saw him.

Actually Uno apparently fell too many times, and Zhou URed too many times. Is there a case for Boyang Bronze so I can move to that reality?

    110 + 95 + change = 206, to break 300.

Congrats Chen. Come on Brown. Zhou with his uncalled URs better not win a medal.

LOL. Well, it was a better performance than I think of him for.

I don't think Chen deserves to beat that with four quads, but IDK if the judges agree.

    LMAO at Vincent's PCS.
  9. Zagi does have a natural charm to her even on the ice... Just wish, if she continues, she gets loads of help for her skating technique.
  10. I didn't mean to imply you were pretending, but certain comments from skaters and media outlets are indeed instead choosing to spin the narrative into "oh well, she should have been more careful". Of course, now it's even more out of hand. Duhamel didn't need to comment, and it's now not even alleged bullying from a 22 yo, but actual, legitimate bullying from a 33 yo.

Sometimes emojis just don't work for everyone else either... right?
  12. I'd love to discuss! What do you disagree with? You aren't the first to say this. I think ultimately it depends on only actual point gaps between competitors (as much as I'd love an absolute system, we simply don't have the correct rules for it currently, in terms of combos, where Zagi should be scoring higher because of +3Lo). Maybe I should go higher on +3Lo GOE because of difficulty. But I did expect 200+ initially from me. I just started to notice how flawed of a performance it really was.
  13. I'm going to try it once, and see how it treats me... and if it takes too long to type it up, will just evaluate the rest and post totals I don't think all the camera angles and video quality are coming together perfectly for me, so there might be some leeway on UR calls, and I did go by messy edges on footwork to knock a level down if it seemed good. (element; GOE/PCS; reason; element score) ALINA ZAGITOVA Worlds 2019 SP 3Lz+3Lo +1 Not a big lutz, but the jumps are clean, and she did do steps out of the element. Barely rotated +3Lo though. 10.80 FCSp4 +2 Transitions with little set up into this, but the camel position takes time to settle correct properly and still isn't great; her donut and catchfoot are just OK. Nice build with the music though. 3.84 StSq4 +3 Some nice choreographic touches and nice expression at points, but not always the best edge quality. 5.07 2A +3 The jump isn't that big, but nice transition into it, and she does hold the exit edge well here. 4.29 LSp4 +2 Her sideways position is weak but they disguise it nice with her hands behind her back; her haircutter is weak too, but they introduce the hand position there; the Biellmann could be better. Nice musicality though. 3.24 3F (x) +1 Nice overall element with Rippon right on the music, but it's not a great jump. 6.36 FCCoSp4 +2 Nice entry, but several weak positions here, and goes only "OK" with the music. 4.20 SS: 8.00 She showed some nice qualities here, looked less laboured, and did OK with edging, speed, and control. Too much of flinging herself around to get the correct turn, though. TR: 8.50 Some hard ones, and they thankfully highlighted the music with simple edge-holding at points, but not always done with the best quality. PE: 8.25 Presents herself well here, but comes off too child-like at points where such a quality shouldn't have been present. CO: 7.25 I like the element placements on a superficial level, but the choreography could use more interesting movement. Grander movements to the music (like the charlotte) are nice, but the footwork appears too athletic for that section of the music, nor are the spins well choreographed. There isn't enough dimensionality or cohesion to this piece, and her poor form detracts, too. IN: 6.75 I don't think the music cuts were the end of the world. They weren't used very well though. There yet again isn't enough cohesion in this interpretation: for instance while people severely disliked the smashing glass effect, I think had the piece been presented as a woman going slowly mad, and had someone who had better form and performance ability than Zagitova skated to this, with choreography becoming slowly more haphazard, it could have been better. Moreover, the spins are a weak point too: The final spin isn't grand enough, and the flying camel isn't foreboding enough. Total score: 38.39 + 31.00 = 69.39 LP 2A +1 Good entry, but wild on the exit and the axis. 3.63 3Lz+3T +1 Rippon Lutz, and OK 3T with a clean landing, but barely rotated. 3T looked UR in real time, but looks like she made it on rewatch. 10.69 3S< 0 Her salchow is simply not good. 3.23 2A +1 Nice entry, but not great at all. The exit edge is too uncontrolled, but she did a kick I guess. 3.63 FCSp4 +2 Same criticism as in SP. 3.84 ChSq +1 Not great positions or performance, but alright ice coverage. 3.50 3Lz<+3Lo< (x) -1 Has to struggle on the landing of the 3Lo 8.48 3F+2T<+2Lo< (x) 0 Wonky landing, but the arm variations make me give it 0. 7.79 3F (x) 0 Wonky landing, but again arm variation and some transitions leading in. Looked UR in real time, but video quality not great to confirm. 5.83 CCoSp4 +1 Weak-ish positions, and not done with great speed either. 3.85 StSq3 0 Several laboured turns, and looked like she botched some. 3.30 FCCoSp4 +1 Her positions and speed were simply worse here to me than in the SP. 3.85 SS: 7.50 Far more of a struggle here than the SP. TR: 8.00 Some difficult ones, but struggle on landings, and poor edge quality in general detracts. Her flow is too poor to aid this score further. PE: 7.50 Her body awareness and expression is not great in this performance. CO: 6.75 The choreography isn't good. I don't think the layout is doing a bad job of telling a story, the long setup into the lutz-loop adds intrigue for sure, and I get the idea of the initial movement for instance, but her constant changes of bodyline detract with the music and highlight poor form. IN: 7.00 Slightly higher simply because an actual attempt at a story is here, but some things simply don't work with the music. Simply holding the edge out of jumps to establish mood and character would have been remarkable. Total Score: 62.15 + 59.60 = 121.75 TSS: 191.14 (phew!)
  14. This reminds me of... something.
  15. It was a joke. Ish. I do hope it happens at this point. They sure are squadding up against a SIXTEEN YEAR OLD girl, and it's definitely, to me at least, coming off as them exerting their power over her to silence. So, let's see what they make of a skating legend telling them off. Hardly anyone will care about what Rippon or Wagner thinks then. You need to add a "mad" reaction button at this point
  16. Given all these skaters' "statements", I'd love to see Yuna Kim's now. Let's see who holds more power.
  17. I don't want to rant, so I'll just say that Team Raf is not painting itself in a good light at all. Ponsart and Wagner seem to have foot in mouth disease, and I am not looking forward to their comments on this latest footage.
  18. Yes, I am always confused about what went where I always just remember that GPF 2017 SP was a ridiculous way of thrashing her opponents in terms of SS, and really she might have deserved a legit 10 for it. I am not going to look up if she did or not
  19. That is amazing!!!! An Oxonian!
  20. Oh, then yes. That was a masterclass in blade control.
  21. Was that her Olympics LP? I wasn't a huge fan of it, but it's definitely suited to someone closer to Satoko's refinement and skating quality.
