[2018] Olympic Games Ladies Short Program

Featured Replies

To talk about PCS seems pointless so I'm just happy for Zhenya's and Alina's clean skates  also well done Japanese ladies  hope one of them will land on the podium. I like Satoko's programmes this season but Kaori is such a sunshine :tumblr_inline_nhkezsTB3v1qid2nw: and has better jumps.

Poor Masha. TAT said that she had "heavy legs" from the start and there wasn't lightness and no good speed. Hope she can leave nerves behind and have a good skate in free.

The Mens and Ice dance events were too good so of course the Ladies will give me a headache  Now we know how clean Alina vs clean Evgenia. Both were overscored to me. Alina's pcs is a crime and Evgenia's GOE should be lower. IMO Keatlyn should get highest pcs. Kaori should have higher goe on her jump.

Love Satoko's performance. The lutz were < but her pcs was low compare to top 3 so I'm fine with her final score. The placement for top 10 is right.

This remind me of men's in Sochi. The battle for gold is between top 2 but anyone from 3-6 can aim for bronze.

4T - 3A - gorgeous delayed 1A :tumblr_inline_mzx8xsVPrg1r8msi5:

Did you mean to post this in the Ladies thread?

Looks like I made the right decision by going to sleep last night, and I will probably skip the free as well since it seems like they were keeping the worst judging for the ladies as expected. I really hoped for a good competition like the other disciplines but really should have known better :sigh:

Better go watch Yuzu's practice to cleanse my soul and forget the ladies event is even happening  :meditationf:

omg ... :xD: no

I mean maybe it was Yuzuki (was that what we dubbed his female alter ego?) in that video who knows :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

Didn't see the last group but wasn't surprised at the top three. Who could have predicted that? :smiley-laughing021:

Of the skaters I did see, Kaori was far and away the best.

Will be interesting for me to see in what order the three Americans place in the FS.

I'm glad I haven't lost my sleep for this, the judging would have taken away my joy for the great skates of so many ladies :smiley-sad058:

Too bad Caro couldn't repeat her amazing SP, but if she  goes clean I can  still see her on podium ( and it would help my predictions because I've placed Zhenya first):slinkaway:

But the jpn ladies were amazing!:smiley-happy105::cheer: Kaori, sunshine girl, keep going! For me she is the true breakthrough of the season, more than Alina, tbh, even if her results are way more modest. If the judging were fair, she could be fighting for more than bronze :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

I'm happy for Kaetlyn, I hope she can have a stronger fs than what she had till now!

Sad for Maria. I feel her confidence has taken a bit of a hit at Euros, I hope she can come back strong in the fs. After a strong season, it would be a pity to see her falter at olys :sad4:

I'm so sad for Zhenya. She didn't deserved a WR but neither Alina did. It's sad that she's grown so much this season but judges left no room for her scores to reflect that, and after bearing the pressure of delivering every single time for 3 seasons she suddenly isn't even given the chance to fight for that gold. Alina would need to have a major mistake to lose now, and I don't wish that. Tho kudos for both ladies for handling the pressure so well. I'll always wonder what it would have happened if Zhenya had not been injured (Zhenya would have likely not fall in COR snd NHK. She would have likely won GPF. And maybe this would have slowed down the rise of Alina's pcs, or maybe Med l would have been able to backload her fs more:shrug:we will never know). I'm happy she says she's focusing on giving her best in her performances, tho she is as competitive as Yuzu, I don't think she can really be happy with silver:dpooh:

After inflation now we have overinflation too:tantrum:this is all the judges'doing.:tumblr_m9ranru0Dx1qdlkyg:

Time for the ladies to start bringing the quads and 3A. Tho who knows, with the rule change it might not be enough.

when the Jr monsters will turn senior we might see some interesting battle again

Finally watching everything from the beginning (skipping score announcement to save time). From here .

Commenting on some performances I like (or that I feel the need to comment on), and of course the last 2 groups.

Toth. Whoah! That was an awesome program. (This type of music, just like LGC, is not what I have in any of my playlist, but.) She performed it really well, such a shame on the Lz and stsq.

Craine. There was the joy of skating in her eyes. She was lovely to watch.

Hendrickx. The pop!! It was going so well...

Now, the last 2 groups.

Saving comment for Sakamoto for later.

US ladies - (I don't have anything to say about Tennell) Nagasu and Chen. I love Chen's music. But both of them have this problem in the moments in between the element. Chen's too frantic, Nagasu's too empty. Chen's jumps need an intervention asap.

Daleman. Whoah, the combo step-out, unexpected from her. That's all I have to say. I am sure she'll do well in FS. She just does not win me over. And I am usually a sucker for someone who overcomes something and proves every doubter wrong. Personal preference, I guess.

Tursynbaeva. Another Carmen from TCC ladies. LMAO. That was a costly pop, but good for her she kept her focus. I wonder how much more she can improve, tho.

Choi. That was lovely. I am rather surprised they score her that low on PCS. I mean, I should know better, but still.

Medvedeva. I swear I've made peace with her laboured-looking jumps, but the labour in the combo this time, ugh! That's not bad. The 2A landing was still dodgy. Also, the timing near the end was so off, it made the 'breath coming back' moment even weirder than usual. WR, why not.

Miyahara. Watching her right after Medvedeva sure put things into perspective. How do you equate their flow and artistry? Sure, my problem with Miyahara is also her jumps (and boy am I not still salty on behalf of Wakaba and Mai). But in every other element, I think she is better. That layback spin!!

Osmond. Apart from that flutz that I can see all the way from here (that didn't even get an unclear edge call), she really sold the program. That's her program.

Zagitova. Can someone point out to me which note, if at all, she hits in this particular performance? I just. And, my! Full-blade toe jumps!! Sure. And seriously. Sloppy arm movements (was that supposed to be swan flapping or someone who is drowning trying to stay afloat but failing), even sloppier postures (even the opening move when she was getting up was guh!). The only truly nice things she delivered were the spins. Whom do I need to sacrifice what to so that I don't have to watch this ever again? Another WR. *head to desk*

Kostner. (I'll take Choi's music over this one, anytime. Now, if the Papa was the version with lyric, I'd take that back). And then Kostner is after Zagitova. Can't the judges see the difference? Come on!! And she didn't score higher than Medvedeva on PCS. Comparing Miyahara-Kostner to Medvedeva-Zagitova is also why I cannot feel bad for Medvedeva, while I can't even for Zagitova.

Sotskova. There went the possibility of all-Russian podium. That fall was unfortunate. And lost levels on stsq and one spin as well. Get your nerve under control, girl!

Here's where I rant about Kaori. This girl backloads all her jumps as well, one of the only 3 girls who do it. She gets all the level as well. But somehow she is still scored like that (more like I think she is scored correctly, but in comparison, the others' scores should get yanked way lower!). See, the reason why Kaori's backloaded program doesn't feel as jarring to me is that she gets the music cues. Sure, there are some of her moves that needs refining, and she needs just a little bit more conviction. But, really. Her flow has gotten so much better, and her expression has improved as well. And don't even let me start on her jumps. Way better than the rest (except probably the two Canadians). Certainly the best SP, imo. Even if the scoring says otherwise.

Confession, in the prediction, I put Zagitova 1st and Medvedeva 2nd (I forgot who I put in 3rd. Probably either Osmond or Kostner). But that's me reading how the judges will score, not me thinking it should happen at all.

Are you using tiny font because Orser is one of her coaches?

I don't care who is coaching her; she doesn't do a lot for me either. I think she's been over hyped and is also being over scored.

Under spoiler so that I don't ruin people's mood.

Spoiler

No, I couldn't careless about Orser's other students, no matter how much others praise them (Fernandez doesn't impress me much either - which is partly why I am avoiding the General thread at the moment - too much Fernandez mourning). I used tiny font, cz I know it's not a popular opinion, and I might come across of being cruel for having a non-favourable opinion on a bullied girl.

With Daleman, I think it's mostly how she was first introduced to me, as in the first 'personalised' story I heard about her. A girl who was bullied for looking less princessy, who has been dealing with body image issue because of that, but is proving her bully wrong. Then I watch her and her interviews, and maybe I am wrong, but the 'Ha! Take that, you bully!!!' attitude doesn't sit well with me. I mean, sure, there's nothing particularly wrong about openly rubbing your success in the face of the people who wronged you, but I'd rather Zu's approach to that kind of thing. And then I watched her skating, and she just fell flat. People praise her for being gorgeous, I can't with that much of a caked-up face (hey, I understand she might still be dealing with body image issue she has, I get it. Doesn't mean I have to like the way she puts on makeup. And, I am more than aware she also doesn't have to care about my opinion, either). People praise her for her jumps, but her 3-3 combo, big as it is, is 3T-3T. Others are being deemed not competitive (e.g. Tuktamysheva) for only having that as their 3-3 combo. And, as her initial FS program has shown, she still yet to prove capable of delivering different types of programs. Her reaction to her step-out on her SP this time also left a sour taste in my mouth. As I said, personal preference.
