Yes, this is how it works iirc and worked last year. He is reigning World Champion, so there shouldn't be any problem. I would doubt JSF members sanity if they don't send him to Olys.

I mean, who would they send? As much as I appreciate the other Japanese men skaters, outside of Yuzu and Shoma, none of them are really competitive. I'm sure some people would complain like they did last season when he didn't participate due to flu, but what else is new?

Of course, the ones who go to Olys are the ones with the best chances to medal, not just the ones who win 1 national competition.

After this terrible incident, I realized that I didn't care about the Olympic title as much as I thought, I care about his health much more. As long as he is healthy, I won't care anything else. Being defeated when injured would be more heartbreaking. He can't be defeated when injured, he can't end his career with a body full of injuries like Plushenko or Daisuke. 
Admittedly, I wanted him to add 4lutz like crazy but this incident really makes me scared. When I see some bad landings from him and I'm fully aware of how bad it affects on his body. I know he wants to challenge, wants to break his limits but I don't want to see him injure himself beause of this cursed 4lutz anymore. So Yuzu listen to me. Please remove 4 lutz from FS layout ( even 4lo if your body can't handle it).  I don't need anything but healthy and happy Yuzu. Recalling the moment when I saw  "yuzuru hanyu" along with word "injured", I'm in a cold sweat again.

Thank you for your thoughts! To be honest, I'm not as affected as I thought I would be. I'm mostly really sad because I can imagine what he must be going through. For myself... I'm an X fan, so I'm kind of used to things like this ^_^;

 

And I really want him to go back to Toronto ASAP, so he doesn't have to hear about any of the news and so on.

 

I had a foot injury a few years ago, that I self-diagnosed - with my father's expertise in injuries, as an amateur soccer player - as a ligament injury, possibly rupture. I never actually went to the doctor, though ^_^;. It was on the outer side of the foot - felt something snap when I twisted it. It hurt a lot and could walk but only using the inside part of the foot - but it was so swollen I'd have had no chance to put on shoes. After it turned various shades of purple and green, after 6 weeks, I could walk again, but still had some pain. Actually some pain lingered for months afterwards, especially on certain movements.

 

My current concern is he might try to skate while still not fully healed for Nationals. I'm sure JSF would still send him to the Olympics, but he'd hate getting it without fighting for it... So I hope he will have fully healed by then...
