True... Evgenia is extremely strong skater, only this miming is really getting annoying and  if the story was about Anna Karenina I could not feel it...

About miming, I can understand that but you also has to take into consideration that many people (including me) really love it even if there's no logical explanation to that according to your perception. It may sound strange but that's what is interesting about art - there are always people who hate it and always people who love it... otherwise it gets just boring. And in addition another bonus is that I actually think that it doesn't bother judges at all.

But again I totally except your point of view. Just wanted to give another perspective.

Just saw Marin's LP . Its remind me a bit of Shizuka's programs but tbh almost all Turandot programs have the same music cut.  Marin's music cut is even more similar to Elena's lol ( and Sarah Brightman's voice makes me ) . I would like to see more power from her. Her interpretation at this moment still a bit soft and at the beginning of the stsq she still has the sweet smile from her SP last season.  And lol she really has some random open hand movement, like @xeyra metion. The choreos looks a bit genetic,  but its expected from D.Wilson and I think its better than her R&J. Marin has many nice qualities about her skating, so smooth and easy, I hope she can improve this program when the competition begin, there's still alot of time.

About the miming...I myself don't like it (which is a shame because she's my absolute favorite!) but I remember reading that miming actually works for the audience, especially those who are further away from the stage. If she exaggerates her movements and expressions those who are sitting far from the stage can see what exactly she's trying to convey and they get a better feel for the program, plus they can actually see her facial expressions. I watched a fancam of her FS from one of the higher seats and it really didn't look bad at all (take that from someone who doesn't like the miming either). I think the main problem is that it looks awkward on camera because they're much closer, so it can be quite polarizing to those who are only watching on camera and not in person.

Thanks everybody for posting video links!

Hmm, it's early days but Mai's libertango has much potential.

On Marin...I felt a bit of a disconnect there, hopefully she'll have watched/will watch Turandot at some point :/

Omg I don't hate it... all I meant was that for me Zhenya is stuck in one style,  while she is excellent skater with great potential

Olympic season is not the right time to change style :smiley-cool14: (especially the winning one)

PS: she's only 17... and we had many different styles this year in Ex galas.

Love Mai's short. Was a bit worried when i heard it was a tango, but im pleasantly surprised. Lots of potential. I really see no downsides that a little more experience will not improve. My favourite Japanese girl by far.

Evgenia. Maybe one day the miming will stop. I do not mind it in general, but when the person does it year after year... I hope for competition this year she will express herself differently. Just for growth and change.

Kaori's Amelie was a real surprise for me, did not expect to be this good:goe:; Mai's tango was not necessarily convincing to me at this moment but I believe she will improve in the season:knc_brian1:

I remember one of commentators said about Evgenia - "it's such a theater when she skates". That's exactly what I thought watching "AK". Someone can love it or not but that's what differs her so much from others. She always tells a story on ice.

Getting back to the ground, she's in a very good shape and she seems to be working on her speed and SS a lot.

I definitely think it is something you either love or do not like when it comes to Evgenia's theatricality. I personal love it, but I understand how some others do not. It is what I miss in many of the other ladies. I feel like the past few years, ladies are more technical than 'performance' and it is not my preference. I much prefer beauty than power, if that makes sense, but again! I totally understand it is just preference!

Has anyone seen a video of Maria Sotskova's performance?

ETA: It seems Maria's performance wasn't included in the broadcast, so no vids at the moment.

I'll just repeat myself and say that I'm really in love with Mai's SP already. Yes, she needs more expression in the ice but there is also that blooming flower she is, between innocence and maturity that I appreciate in her. The music itself is not extremely dramatic which also suits her.

Kanako looks so mature as an anchor here, with her outfit, makeup and blazer.

I must admit I almost didn't recognize her ^^;
