Honestly fvck the Olympics, can the universe just be kind to yuzu’s health for once 😭😭😭

Yeah yuzu is super good at improvising layouts and I'd never noticed that about nathan

iirc some people speculated that part of the reason Nathan had such disaster skates at last Olys was because he kept doing on the fly layout changes and didn't have the muscle memory to pull him through the stress. not sure if it's true, but it would be interesting if it was

Is there a ceremony for announcing the Oly representatives and will it be shown on TV?

oh.... It was obvious he didn't recover from the injury as easily as he implied in before the competition interviews. Honestly, he looked a little tired these past days. These performances are more precious to me now. what a fighter <3

seriously 😭 I fully believe that if he hadn't had to deal with all the injuries and other stuff he would probably have landed 4A by now

In case there is a confusion, this was pre-NHK.

I just keep thinking how Nate was not able to land a 4Lz since March and is gambling with his programs.

Yuzu actually may not even need any technical upgrade to win if Nate knocks himself out.

I'm still confused about Nate even considering switching his programs not once but also again possibly after us nationals??? like how in the world does the make sense. idc if you've won everything for 5 years straight, you don't randomly start changing programs two months before the olympics and then again in the 3 weeks leading up to it. something is not right over there. once upon a time we thought Michelle Kwan was unbeatable  at 98 and 02 and look what happened...

Yeah that's a risky thing to bet on given that nate generally has super consistent jumps and high technical components so Yuzu's still gotta not get complacent. Honestly hope that scoring is fair and nathan just doesn't do enough to medal gold

Honestly, if Yuzu lands the 4A and skates clean, it would be a 5x bigger scandal to make Nate win than what they did with Sotnikova in Sochi.

Yuzu's practice session was outsold today. PRACTICE. In Saitama Super Arena, not some small venue.

His hashtag has freaking +900 Million followers on TikTok. He dominates all headlines. Countries like Brazil and Turkey will broadcast the Olympics live for the first time because of him.

If the judges screw him, they will be roasted forever.

I think Nathan is less psychologically solid than people think too. Every time since Olys he faced Yuzu, Yuzu skated first in the SP and botched a jump, except at 2021 World's. And what happened at 2021 Worlds? Yuzu skated a clean SP and Nathan fell. Not sure what the situation was in the free, but he may have cottoned on to the fact that there was something wrong with Yuzu's condition, which may have given him more confidence.

Regardless, I'm sure if Yuzu wants to win he'll approach things smartly while balancing it with his other goals. Depending on the situation coming out of the short, it may be smarter to do one thing or the other. Eg. If Nathan has a disaster SP then Yuzu can feel comfortable trying the 4A, or alternatively if Yuzu's significantly behind and needs to go all out to catch up then he might try it as well. But if he's like 10 points ahead and just needs to be clean with 4 quads to win, then he may play it safe. If anyone can pull off last minute layout changes it's Yuzu

Hmm, it never occurred to me that the other skaters in his group would probably have known about his asthma attack before they skated.

JP side is still prepping for the presscon... pandaguy will be streaming it, or you can watch directly from FujiTV youtube (geo locked)

I agree. He has said his skating is improving and it's better than ever so why should he quit now?   His 4A training has definitely given him new insights into his body and psyche, and he has a greater mastery to perform even more complex and intricate programs.  It seems to me that winning the 3rd OGM is no longer his priority, although his competitive spirit will certainly want to do the best to win; his main goal now is to raise the level of figure skating to a higher level through his performance, e.g., by integrating 4A into a cohesive and flowing program. And he has said that if Beijing happens to be along the way of his path to mastering 4a, then so be it.

I truly believe he will continue competing into the next season, when he will have the chance to explore new programs and artistic expressions.  He could retire and do them in ice shows, but I think he needs to go through the fire of competition to burnish his performance into a fine piece of art.

Great comment!

Also, I believe Yuzu still loves to compete. No matter what hardships he has had to go through, I can imagine that finally receiving his well deserved rewards is an incomparable feeling.

This weekend, he has clearly shown that he's better than ever. And I think there's still room for improvement. Who knows what unimaginable things Yuzu can achieve yet? I also think he will continue competing.
