[2021] Japanese Nationals (22.12-26.12) - Men's FS

I'm ridiculously happy seeing him so happy.

If he substitute the 3A-2T with 3A-3Lo and then the 3Lo with 3F or 3Lz then he can also increase his BV without adding a 5th quad.  Or he can do that AND add a 5th quad, if he really wants that OGM and WR score.  His stamina seems like he can do it if he wants to.

Also he wasn’t able to practice for a while due to his injury around NHK and so I think if he keeps healthy from now till Oly then he has time to practice 4A even more and he may just be able to do it at Oly!

Does anyone have video from training zone? It seems that Yuzu jumped fully-rotated 4A (3A?) on the floor in the end

I really really hope so. Nathan and ISU scoring will definitely make it a fight for him

I am back from the dead just in time for nationals.

4A hmm... I am pretty sure he will try it during Olympics. I dont know if he should or should just wait for post Olympics event because if he wants this gold he must skate a perfect long since Nathan will come with his 78 Lutzes.

I just keep thinking how Nate was not able to land a 4Lz since March and is gambling with his programs.

Yuzu actually may not even need any technical upgrade to win if Nate knocks himself out.

I truly believe he will continue competing into the next season, when he will have the chance to explore new programs and artistic expressions.  He could retire and do them in ice shows, but I think he needs to go through the fire of competition to burnish his performance into a fine piece of art.

JUST. THIS.

[NEWS]

Of all the good things, best part about this weekend has been seeing Yuzu truly happy for the first time, in what feels like a long time. He really smiled with his eyes when he saw his results. Last year he only looked relieved at best, he was under so much stress and worried about the world. I wonder if just attempting the 4A, even if he knew he wouldn't get it, has lifted a burden of sorts from his shoulders. He has taken the first step and it's not hanging so heavily over him any more.

Yeah I think the ideal layout would be 4a and either upped combos and 3 other quads or add a fifth for security. I def think he'll get 4A at Beijing

He's amazing to have overcome everything thrown his way, again and again.

Yeah that's a risky thing to bet on given that nate generally has super consistent jumps and high technical components so Yuzu's still gotta not get complacent. Honestly hope that scoring is fair and nathan just doesn't do enough to medal gold

I think Nathan is less psychologically solid than people think too. Every time since Olys he faced Yuzu, Yuzu skated first in the SP and botched a jump, except at 2021 World's. And what happened at 2021 Worlds? Yuzu skated a clean SP and Nathan fell. Not sure what the situation was in the free, but he may have cottoned on to the fact that there was something wrong with Yuzu's condition, which may have given him more confidence.

Regardless, I'm sure if Yuzu wants to win he'll approach things smartly while balancing it with his other goals. Depending on the situation coming out of the short, it may be smarter to do one thing or the other. Eg. If Nathan has a disaster SP then Yuzu can feel comfortable trying the 4A, or alternatively if Yuzu's significantly behind and needs to go all out to catch up then he might try it as well. But if he's like 10 points ahead and just needs to be clean with 4 quads to win, then he may play it safe. If anyone can pull off last minute layout changes it's Yuzu

Yeah yuzu is super good at improvising layouts and I'd never noticed that about nathan

Yes this is also something that I have been wondering about.  If Nathan botches his SP and Yuzu only needs to play it safe and do a clean 4 quad FS to get the OGM, what will Yuzu decide to do?
