Happy Canada Day to all of you - I attended a party when I was quite young thrown by a Canadian my dad was working with - best party memory of my childhood!

Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements
Sombreuil replied to CupidsBow's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I've just been to see Matthew Bourne's new ballet ' The Red Shoes'. It was wonderful and now I want someone innovative (like James/Cipres or Papadakis/Cizeron ?) to use his score for a FS. Instead of using the score of the film he pieced together bits from a number of films composed by Bernard Herrman who did a lot of work for Hitchcock inter alia. The company's website has a piece about the music. -
Excellent - I'm doing the airport run at 5.30 so should be back in time.
-
Not sure where to put this- move or delete as you see fit Its festival time in the U.K. and as no one has the money to actually go this year the family have Glastonbury and Download on TV. I watched Evita. I would love Javier Fernandez to step outside his comfort zone and do a Che themed evita programme.

The rest of us are madly envious of those of you who can go- report back- but do it afterwards - don't waste the moment, but enjoy it to the full.

Yikes - hope they choose a different option. Topic closed!

😐 sorry

Is it easy and quick to get or time consuming and difficult? I wonder because UK govt sometimes takes a leaf from US book on these things and I worry about the Irish border after brexit, having people on both sides who are used to just driving over it.
-
I'm curious about the permit too - also not looking at news or newspapers in the last ridiculous 12 months- too depressing. At least with sport you get highs as well as lows.
-
I'm afraid we disagree on that one- I want a fierce programme with some attack as a contrast to the elegance of Chopin.
-
Brian Orser was one of those predecessors- he has excellent reasons to tell Y to keep away from social media.

After looking through the music and general threads had a thought about Firebird - Machida used it in Sochi and I don't feel that he would reuse it. Now watch me be wrong!

P 470 of the general thread Meoima linked a message from someone at TCC to the effect that someone on GS had guessed correctly. Sorry it's taken me so long but I couldn't find it (and got sidetracked by people wanting to be fed- anyone would think that ovaries were necessary before you could attempt a stir fry. ) No idea whether it's correct or not. also apologies for not being able to copy it across.
-
@Lyyli- that must have taken ages to sort out of the GS thread- thank you. Maybe I'll get my Edward Scissorhands/ Danny Elfmann programme if there's any truth in the twitter rumour.

I'm not sure what you mean by this either. It's a forum based upon the YH fans, but those fans have many other interests and are fans of other skaters as well. They like to talk about a lot of different aspects of the sport and I don't suppose that many people follow all threads, if any. It's a question of picking the ones that interest you and being free to ignore the others. I can't follow the language threads, and though the ballet / dance stuff is interesting I can't really contribute to it, but I'm glad that it's there for others and that the people who have given their time to set it up and run it are so inclusive. On the old forum you had to search hard in the single thread to find the things you wanted to read about and it was time consuming and irritating. This may not be perfect but it's a work in progress and it's already streets ahead of the old one.

The threads will probably fill up quite rapidly once the season begins. It's good to have things split up so that we can find them easily and consolidate later if necessary. The old place was a pain to search. The forum is only 2 months old - you're all doing a marvellous job- thank you.

On the athsma point his parents deserve a mention - there is nothing as frightening as watching one of your children struggle to breathe- its very courageous to make yourself allow them to follow a path which is difficult for people who are completely healthy.

Team we're fewer but still good!
Sombreuil replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Igloo World: Team Other Skaters
I agreed with Johnny too. Just spent an hour doing a really boring chore and trying to pin down what I disliked about it after reading this comment earlier. I think it's because the music is so banal after seeing it a couple of times you think -'meh' - and the more often you watch it the less J seems charming or charismatic or playful or whatever he's aiming for and the more it seems forced and tired. He might be physically tired at the end of the season, but it's too shallow to have any room to develop beyond what was there in September. It would probably be fine as an ex piece because he might really be having fun with it instead of giving the impression that he's sick of it. I'm not sure I could stand to listen to it as often as he must have done in the last 12 months. The 'showman' sort of style isn't my favourite either but he does it well when he has the right material. -
It may be that Prokofiev is unsuitable for YH - as you say P favours complex harmonies and they might well not be the easiest to cut into a piece for skating. I just prefer them to Tchaikovskys R&J if he were to go for R&J 3. I hope he will stick with SL for the long piece, and perhaps have DW do his ex again? It seems odd to mess with what has been a winning combination for the past 3 years- I firmly believe that the combination of the CoC collision, surgery and the ensuing infection (and allergies to meds) prevented PotO from being as much of a tour de force in the 2014/15 season as Seimei was in 2015/16 and H&L has eventually been this season.

Listen to the Tybalt / Mercutio dance duel - it has a less heavy version of 'Dance of the Knights' for Tybalt trying to wind everyone up, a gentle melody for Romeo trying to smooth things down in his newfound love for J and quirky music for Mercutio who is outside the feud but being drawn in by his own fierce and acidly witty nature.
-
I'd link it for you but I'm technologically challenged- YouTube has several versions including the Macmillan choreography for the RB and Nureyevs at Paris Opera.
-
It's a full length ballet and there's 2 hours or so of music to choose from. Mercutio/Tybalt fight sequence references 'Dance of the Knights' in a less ponderous way (Tybalts aggression) and there are more lyrical bits where Romeo refuses to fight, and lighter bits reflecting Ms personality.

Just been watching the Shanghai version of no 1- the gold inserts would work much better on the shoulder- wouldn't interfere with the billowing of the sleeve or the waist- that's assuming a rejig as opposed to a whole new idea for the costume Did a very clumsy sketch of what I had in mind but can't seem to copy it here - need a tech dinosaur emoticon.
