Loved Satoko FS dress - just perfect. Equally perfect in its own way Kaitlyn Weavers SD outfit - really classy.

I like this idea- it won't happen but it's amusing to imagine - there's something quirky about DEs music that I think fits - thank you 😊

Warhorses: Who skated it best?
Sombreuil replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
No one will ever approach John Curry's Don Quixote for me - first skater I am aware of ever watching, and even now on YouTube it's such a polished finished elegant performance. I don't care that the jumps are outdated. The only other skater who has been that 'finished' is YH - which is why I'm here! -
He's improvising at an ice show on what looks like quite a small rink? He'll probably ring the changes before going back to Toronto to finalise it ?
-
Imagine what it will look like on a full size rink!

Staggering round like a zombie after a bad night - one product of my insomnia was some thought about FS music - film music. I wonder whether there is anything in Danny Elfmans body of work- Edward Scissorhands? Batman?
-
Exactly- I'm sure they'll do their homework, and if it's even slightly a problem they will do something else.

As someone who has suffered a lot from elderly relatives in the past 12 months I now realise there is one thing to be thankful for - none of them are likely to get any media interest in their views on the younger generation.

Bit off topic and ancient history now, but wasn't there talk of Kanako Murakami going abroad for coaching in the same way that Yuzuru did, but it didn't happen? That might have done her a lot of good if she had been able to cope with the move.

And the right area of Japanese soil!

I don't recall many iconically Japanese programmes from her group of skaters - stable full of classical western warhorses as far as I recall.

@VieObsolète I think it rather depends on whether the culture that suffered from the presumed supremacy has been able to come to terms with the history or whether it's still a sore point- I'm not qualified to judge but it is a point I've seen raised in several places, which leads me to wonder whether it would be a problem.
-
I'm not sure it would be a tactful choice given the history with Korea.

Planet of the Apes- the arms and legs look about the same length - probably fitted for a chimp.
-
@Pamigena Good God- pity my cat is old and lazy or I might feel very much like Meoima re Japanese stylists. What were they thinking? Scratch that - no thought process there at all.

....'a rose by any other name...' - keeps coming back to R&J!!

Sorry to go off topic but did anyone resolve the mystery of the heinous black boiler suit with long arms and short legs and inappropriate shoes?

I like and admire LGC - I can't love it because I'm really not a fan of Prince - if he'd picked Bowie it would have been a different matter- and I agree with what you say about it. Just wish I liked the music better. I love Chopin as a composer and Chopin 1 was being skated when I first became a fan. I have an irrational conviction that all the compromises of the season horribilis and the injury in the one that followed mean that it was never skated to his satisfaction, Even if 2 did get the WR. So I am fine with a third programme in a way that I can understand others aren't. I don't have a problem with him refining it. It's special. I don't mind if he revisits previous themes in the FP if he does it in the way he did R&J 2, with different music cuts and a different theme- I have jokingly suggested R&J 3 with Prokofiev utilising the POV of Mercutio on another thread. I think he has strong views about the music he chooses to skate to and am interested to see what he picks, and what he does with it. But the bottom line is that it's Olympic season, he's an athlete and he wants the medal, and he's probably got a well considered strategy for getting it.
-
I don't dislike LGC - I like it when it's performed close to what he's envisaging- I just think his off days are more obvious with it than they are with a more reflective programme like Chopin or White Legend, and more likely to be hammered by the judges. So a reflective programme is a safer bet in Olympic season.
-
I can see what you mean but perhaps my cynicism re the judging is coming through - LGC hits you over the head so they 'see' the sales pitch - not so sure they are perceptive enough to pick up on the subtle stuff - at least not to the same degree - hence some of the scoring.
-
@beki & liha - think yourselves lucky - I ODed on old YouTube clips last week and now have NDP as an ear worm.
-
I think I would find it harder to perform something as upbeat as LGC if I was feeling 'off'- that is an unrelenting layout that needs selling to the audience. Even if Chopin 3 ends up equally demanding it would probably be possible to do it in neutral, as it were, on an off day and for it to be less obvious than with LGC, and therefore less perceived by the judges.

Cue six pages of angst from those who disagree

I liked the way the black collar framed his face and the streaky black and blue body prevented the white from fading into the ice - I liked it all, black gloves and cuff ruffles, the gold braid, the works.

It gets boring when half the skaters wear black- sometimes almost indistinguishable from one another- PC and JF costumes for the SP last season for example. I can't imagine that he'll fall into that trap, and he seems to have realised that white doesnt work well. I'd like a more structured looking collar like PotO2.
