  1. Just be thankful that he doesn't use Lotte designers. This thread is the first time I've seen a big photo of that monstrosity- his competition and ex costumes are an exercise in restraint in comparison to that .... frill thing.
  2. Perhaps we need an orthopaedic surgeon on the panel
  3. It's just great that at least in Japan - (maybe other places? ) there is still life in skating after r****ment from competition. Also thankfully an internet on which we can all see it. I really like the new look - many many thanks for all the work put into it
  4. Me neither. 'Wrench' is the word- the sweeping motion with the arm might distract a lot of people's attention from what his legs are doing. That's very scary. A few years ago the (British?) lady commentator with CBC commented that YH has a 'soft' landing that might help with longevity in the sport. I'm not sure some are bothered about longevity but I thought SO might be- but even if they're not I hope they're making informed decisions about their own future health. As others have said it's really helpful to see the mechanics of why some skaters jumps look 'wrong' when you don't have the knowledge to analyse it yourself - thank you.
  5. If he's planning to do medicine, which I think he mentioned in interview, it would be hard to do both- Zonderland managed to be an OG HB specialist and a medical student so I suppose it's possible. I wouldn't criticise him for aiming for PC then r****ment - good to have goals beyond OG - just a pity that he seems to be losing interest in expanding his abilities on the ice. PS I didn't realise you automatically asterisk out the fatal word!!!
  6. It will be boring, but he's seemed clear in interview that he's aiming for a gold medal and then an education so that's his best way of getting it. Can't say I'm looking forward to it.
  7. It was such a good design from the point of view of getting across the idea of the Abe no Seimei characters antique costume, which was very bulky and cumbersome - somehow they managed to distil it down to a skating costume.
  8. Yet another reason for us non-Japanese fans to grumble... That one can like a skater not from their own country.. such revolutionary thoughts! It's just too advanced for the brains of some people.. It's really aggravating that journalists and commentators are so narrow minded. I have followed Czech and American tennis players, Kenyan and American runners, seven or eight different nationalities of gymnasts, skaters, skiers and ski jumpers, as well as the odd person from the British Isles. My favourites are my favourites regardless of nationality- the podium at the MAG AA in Rio was spot on as far as I was concerned.
  9. Thank you - interesting to see a little of them in action
  10. All the costumes look wonderful- I'm sure they're not suitable for competition but I'm equally sure some of the skaters with the more boring/appalling costumes could get some inspiration from them!
  11. Has anyone posted anything about the Hyoen 2017 show? It seems to be a collaboration between Japanese traditional theatre and figure skaters- the costumes look amazing and Arakawa looks absolutely stunning. (Would post a link to the site but have no idea how to)
  12. My passive vocabulary in the languages I did at school is a lot better than my active one. So I would struggle to make a sentence in French, couldn't do it at all in Italian or German, but can understand a fair amount of what is said to me. It could be a bit like that I suppose.
  13. If "the thing" is what I think it is, given all the "shuu/paa" talk ( my spellcheck really didn't like that combination of letters) I'm not sure we'd be any the wiser however good his English became!
  14. Exactly - nice to have the insulation of a professional translator.
  15. As someone who isn't fluent in any language but English, while I appreciate it when other nationalities learn to speak it I don't think it should be compulsory! Especially just after all the demands that competing puts on the athletes. Also the Japanese media is bad enough - I don't imagine he wants to encourage any of the others to pitch in to that extent.
  16. From ralcutzagy It's Yuzu we are talking about, it's all about suggestion, you don't expect him to wear something like this: [image]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c2/Cup_of_Russia_2010_-_Patrick_Chan_%284%29.jpg[/image] source: commons.wikimedia.org No you wouldn't - but wouldn't it be nice if PC went back to those sorts of costume instead of his tie dyed pjs
  17. People seem to like Vivaldi - what about a lesser known baroque composer like Torelli or Purcell? Or a total change- has anyone ever used Elgar- the cello concerto?
  18. Boitanos costume was just as bad as Orsers- just a boring colour- and it took him about 5 minutes to work up to launch his 3A
  19. Agree there - he can make a new warhorse- just can't think what it might be
  20. If it were to be R&J3 fierce YH can be Tybalt or Mercutio
  21. If it's R&J I hope he goes for Prokofiev
  22. I had forgotten how horrible the men's costumes were in the 80s - wasn't too fond of skate to one end of the rink- jump- skate back - jump again. Apologies to Mr O but really ...
  23. I wouldn't mind dark red - that scarlet and gold is a bit much even if it wasn't shiny spandex- completely agree about the black pants
