That's a good point in favour of Chopin in Olympic season
-
Skaters have more often than not reused programmes, especially during Olympic seasons - this is the norm, two new ones would be more unusual.
-
Perhaps while we were assuming Chopin 2 had wrapped this music up for him, he was dissatisfied with the way the original had to be abandoned. Maybe if this hadn't been Olympic season we would have had Chopin 3 last season.

I'm channeling my daughter here but- OMG - 19 pages since I went off to do the polite stuff!!! Really - time to settle down, eat, sleep, do some work - whatever - and wait for some actual information? Just a suggestion.
-
Ok now I'm going for a stiff G&T before cooking dinner for 8 picky eaters- look forward to seeing how much more angst there is by midnight tonight!
-
If - and we have no evidence that it's true- he's doing Seimei 2 there are two films worth of music - and he could pick quite different themes and do quite different choreography. I thought it unlikely because OG are in Korea and the history with Japan would probabaly rule it out- but we shall see in due course. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the Chopin

It seems to be a mass freak out!

Isn't it quite usual to reuse a reliable programme for the Olympics? Didn't Arakawa change from a new one back to an old faithful at relatively short notice?
-
I hope he's going back to the original costume or having a complete change- I liked the look of the gold inserts but the extra seams made the sleeves and the waist/lower rib cage area look a bit odd in action - it was never going to be as fluid as the original.

Well however inadequate the sculpture is it's probably better from his point of view than Mme T's traditional method which was to take a live cast- bad idea if you have allergies - he'd have hives for weeks.
-
Lots of people want black with sparkles - deep space? Not my taste but ...
-
This is interesting - Arakawa is very bendy too and has the skin and youthful appearance- she might be a member as well

Several members of my family have asthma, but they're all good swimmers - school team sort of level. We were advised to get them swimming lessons when they were young to help them to learn to control their breathing. One of them ended up playing water polo which gets quite rough. The chlorine didn't affect their breathing but it did cause a lot of problems for the one person who had eczema as well.

Thank you! I'll change them every day til I run out of varieties! They aren't all out yet.

That looks amazing

Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements

I hope not- too cliche. People seem resistant to R&J 3/Tybalt/Mercutio/Prokofiev- I really want Prokofiev, and I've just been looking at tickets for Matthew Bournes 'Cinderella' next winter. How about that - he can be the Prince if you want to be traditional but I was looking at MBs Fairy Godfather in his white tail suit and it reminded me of the Xylitol white suit that Fresca was enthusing about in the general thread! (not the abomination with the gold valance but the tailored suit with the gold tie) -
They must be using something fairly heavy duty in the makeup department- ordinary stuff would slide off with all the sweat- the sort ballet companies use perhaps.
-
I hope they do - I would love to see it - those costumes are astonishing

I repeat what I've said before - R&J3- Prokofiev (there's a whole ballets worth of music to pick from) - Tybalt/Mercutio POV rather than boring star crossed lovers - fierce YH - it would work. Equally he could pick something completely off our radar and make a new warhorse/ unrepeatable programme from it - that's the beauty of YH- you never know what you're going to get - enjoy the suspense! -
Who is your favorite female skater?
Sombreuil replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I love Arakawa- I wish I had the time and money to go to Japan and see her in Hyoen 2017 - she looks astonishingly beautiful in the photos. I like her style and I like the way she is still going- there is a skating life after competition. I love Satoko - I know her jumps aren't great but she does her best to put them right and the rest is just gorgeous- elegant and stylish. i also like the Canadians, they aren't as elegant but they look like athletic normal women which shows that you don't have to be a skinny adolescent to skate- healthy role models, which isn't always the case with sports like skating and gymnastics where aesthetics play a part. -

His comments about letting his choreographer choose the music because he doesn't want to pick a favourite of his own and get fed up with it is interesting- he seems to think the choreographers choices will stretch him more than his own would. It reminds me of what Johnny Weir said about Javier Fernandez and his Elvis choice after his lacklustre FS at GPF - something about Elvis 'getting old' after a bit. There have been comments about JFs less successful season on another thread- maybe as well as the younger ones coming through, not upgrading his jumps, carrying an ice show over the Christmas period and possible stamina issues he just picked the wrong music- it wasn't sufficiently interesting to carry him through the whole season. -
And it glitters so much when you see it at the rinkside- you miss the effect most of the time on TV - probably why they go overboard with the rhinestones

R&J2 just works for me - I like the busy top because the pants are plain black - I like the lace, the jewelled edges, the asymmetry, and I love the ombré sleeves and black gloves and the jewelled strapping on the right arm. I don't even mind the boobskirt though it would still work without it.

Agree with this- my daughter likes rugby players- now that's a sport in which you can tell at a glance which position the bloke plays in because of his physique. It's ok when they're wearing the kit but when you see them in suits when they're off on tour they look completely ridiculous- and not in a cute way.
