Seems like he's going for a softer style!

I had 1. Chen (1/2) 2. Hanyu (2/1) 3. Jin (8/4) (I formerly put him at 3rd in the LP, but on rewatch, Kolyada is definitely better than him) I have Kolyada, Uno, Jin, and Zhou very close though. Can justify any being third, for me.

Well, the judging can be cooked too easily. I don't believe the artistic aspects (and the way the sport has been developed means up to this point indeed means the "PCS" aspects (PE/CO/IN in particular) to the sport are artistic, no matter who may deny it) are sooooo very hard to judge, if there are actual informed and trained opinions being flung around instead of "feelings", but there's a smokescreen of judging based off just "preferences", as if something inferior can be placed first because you "prefer" it. I also think it should be entirely discarded as a sport and be considered an art form. I think it would help technique. To this I look to ballet, where the kids spend years trying to perfect technique, because indeed it helps to prevent injuries -- something that is extremely concerning is the shoddy technique merely being taught to "get ahead" currently. The "PCS" aspects of the sport will be emphasis, both as a consequence and as a requirement. Innovative transitions would still be present. People might slow down on quads if it's an art form, but on the other hand those who lack the resources to master the "PCS" aspects can still be learning exciting tricks like quads to make themselves marketable, for instance, till they find the resources to become great at PCS, too. Psst... it's not that different from what's happening currently! The judges are merely sitting in front of an idiot-box. Just that half the audience won't be losing its minds, and would just be enjoying.

Do gymnastics and diving have this extent of a problem? I don't watch so can't say.

Well, actually, if we're on this train: I don't think figure skating, ballet, dancesport etc. etc. should be Olympic sports.

I think it would make a better sport than fs, actually, because those competitions have better standards imo...

Meh. It is time for us to realize that some skaters may train in skating, but it doesn't mean they know much about it.

I agree that difficult entries that end up affecting the height shouldn't get away with it (unless the height is still good of course). I do wonder what kind of range of "effect" is acceptable, and also timing in the program matters. Someone doing an OK 3A first off in the program compared to someone doing it very late in the program, out of transitions is different. Ito doing her 3A 3 minutes into the 1992 Olympics LP, and still keeping it fairly massive is deserving of +6 GOE. Entries also sometimes mess up the air position, which should be another deduction.

Where can I find...?/ Is there a thread for...?

Oh no no no, I mean to discuss/stream ice shows and programs... Or is that thread meant to do that, too? -
You mean for next season? I guess. I think 5. from you and moonkat is likely the real reason. But 2 is also true and unfortunate. 1. There have been attempts with the 2A, though. I think her solo jumps (in competition) still look forced a little, so it's weird they're already jumping quads in practice and thinking about adding one? 3. Her 2Ts are actually not great She does her 3F+2T+2T in that video. But yes, maybe it will help in lift. 4. Her lack of tanos is certainly helping, but still a little forced, IMO. Her legs still seem a little heavy and thudding as she tries to vault, but maybe it will get there in the off-season? Her solo 3S does look better in practice, it is true. I think so, too. I really hope not, though.

This is against weird decisions by the coaches in general, and the poor state of judging. Not Medvedeva/Orser specifically. Brian Orser says here that her "4T isn't bad". Here's one of Medvedeva's +3T executions from Worlds 2019: Now of course this is on a combo, and solo technique may slightly differ, but 270 degrees of PR doesn't fill me with confidence (and she didn't land it backwards, either) that her solo 4T will be done any better. They also speak about her 4S. Here's her 3S now: This jump isn't that great either. It's slightly better on take-off than her toe-loops, but the vault on the jump isn't that great. I am not sure why people say she has one of the best 3S out there. (that's a very nice performance BTW, program set aside. Something quite Sotnikova-at-Sochi-like.) So my question to the coaches out there is, when someone has weak basic technique, why would you try to build quads on that? Why not try to fix the technique, and try to get the skater to vault? Plus, I am sure the coach knows about cheated technique, so why would they try to not fix that and instead try to train a quad?

Where should I take criticisms of technique? General skating chat? My previous post here has been hidden... I want to talk about her 3S, too.

Will there be a 2019 ice shows board? I am already annoyed at some of these exhibitions. -
Congrats to Karen Chen on being accepted to Cornell! Amazing achievement.

Yeah, but that 3A, already one needs to "trick" into it by swinging in off the preceding jump, and his technique on the 3A was already not great. Looks very tiny there.

The combo looks barely there in terms of rotation and technique...
