  1. Second 'anonymous' coach sounds like Brian, actually (the one who calls him Yuzu).
  2. According to @yude at GS. JOC likely used the image of their "Symbol Athletes" for this Happy New Year card, which these Olympics include Satoko and Shoma, but not Yuzu (he was a "Symbol Athlete" back in 2014). It also doesn't include Sara Takanashi, Japan's ace in women's ski jumping.
  3. Or results for Russian/Japanese predictions, which I sadly failed at.
  4. OMG, how cute this is!!
  5. Nah, pretty sure he basically means he trained hard enough so he showed results. I think he only believes he has trained enough when he goes clean (or clean enough) in a program; everything else means he needs to work harder. Heck, even when he has a WR, he still needs to work harder because of those annoying level 3 steps! I tend to see more people confused at his 'I didn't think I had enough energy' comment, to which Brian and Tracy laughed and said 'well, you did', but I think that harkens back to a comment he seemed to have made in the press after the FS about wanting to do 5 quads. I like to assume he meant he didn't find energy for that 5th quad but it could also mean he was just selling himself short energy-wise.
  6. Actually, I've always thought he meant he needed 10 more points to break his own total score record, being the perfectionist he is. I never thought he was talking about the SP lead Javi had.
  7. One more in my list of useless google sheets. The Top 10 Scores, PCS, TES and GOE tables from a while back transplanted into Google Sheets, and now including ladies too. TOP 10 SCORES, PCS, TES AND GOE - MEN AND LADIES Some observations: Yuna Kim has 4 of the 10 highest TES in the Short Program but appears nowhere in the top 10 SP PCS. This is an interesting example of how high the PCS inflation has gone since her time. Similarly, Carolina Kostner has 4 out of 10 of the highest SP PCS but is nowhere near the Top 10 in TES. And 3 out of 4 of her best SP PCS came in 2017. On the ladies side, only Evgenia appears in all Top 10s, with Yuna Kim only missing on the SP PCS Top 10. Of the men, Yuzu dominates but Javi also appears in all the Top 10s at least once. So, in effect, these 3-4 skaters could be considered the most balanced skaters of modern times. Yuzu only loses once in the Top 10s, and that's in FS PCS, to Patrick Chan, by having one less Top 10 score than him. Despite having the highest BVs and quad number in the field, so far Nathan only appears twice in the SP TES and twice in the FS TES highest scores (8th and 9th in both), but in effect appears only once in the top 10 scores (FS, in 9th) These tables only consider sanctioned ISU competitions that count for PBs otherwise I'd have to bring in Shoma's TCC 2016 SP or many ladies Japan Open 2017 FS results....
  8. I remember there was a 4Lz landed right in front of Fuji cameras during FaOI practices.... we never saw that.
  9. Yuzu's boots at the Olympic Museum in Sapporo.
  10. How inappropriate was that limerick that it couldn't be posted here, I wonder.
  11. I've never seen this and I have no idea where it's from but hey, a 3Lz2Lo combo!
  12. I love Notte Stellata but I think I love it so much not only because of the skating itself, which is gorgeous (the delayed 1A!!) but because that costume is just so beautiful and speaks to my own sense of aesthetics so well.
  13. Does anyone know how the practices were scheduled for the Sochi Olympics? How many practice sessions did skaters have before the Team Event and before their respective individual competitions? I wonder how much practice skaters will be allowed to have prior to the events. Edit: I found this tweet with a drafted schedule for PyeongChang. Official practices begin on February 1 but it's barely legible.
  14. This just makes me depressed. All his care for health and good practice and one single mistake, BAM, out of ice for a month or more. Why did I decide to check out figure skating last season, anyway? My life would be less sad if I didn't get so involved with this fandom and so emotionally invested in this kid. Would probably be more boring too, though. Just get well, Yuzu, and train well and my sole wish for 2018 is that you're in your best possible condition for the Olympics and achieve your dreams.
  15. Also, some more fluff/news on the Japanese Olympic Team and their prospects. Untranslated.
  16. Keiji is going to the Olympics! So cue all the fluff pieces:
  17. The Banner @gladi and co created from our messages! The Making of (check the full post) https://wherespacepooh.tumblr.com/post/168974223769/a-banner-for-yuzu-making-of Edit: This is so amazing. I'm in awe. Thank you for all the work you all did on this banner.
  18. Yuzu the Fabulous
  19. Shoma also looked very strong in his FS at the beginning of the season. Lombardia, obviously, but even Skate Canada wasn't too bad. It's been downhill from there for everyone...
  20. It would seem really weird to count Europeans immediately but not 4CC. Sure, Europeans is considered more prestigious but even so... His flip and lutz takeoff give me life, to be honest.
  21. Then Yuzu's rank would be safe (by a few points). But unless Nathan goes to 4CC too, it seems unlikely anyone there could win it over Shoma.
  22. Yes, but you don't count all the points across the seasons to calculate the rankings so in reality he'll gain about 393 points in total to his final ranking, which puts him 60 points over Yuzu's total. If he wins 4CC, that's 840 point and the math then is: 840+1080 (Championships) + 720+648+454+400 (GP) + 300+300+139+0 (Other Competitions) = 4881 http://www.isuresults.com/ws/ws/wsmen.htm
  23. I hadn't noticed initially that she added in Yuzu to the picture. With his celebratory flag at Sochi.
  24. Has there ever been someone so happy to be in a podium? He's so cute here.
