Maybe it's because I live in a sea-coast country but I honestly thought swimming was something most people learned to do unless they lived somewhere really far away from an ocean, and even then there's pools! I guess it's my privilege speaking.

Thinking of the 10s in PCS and given the new guideline for the 2017/2018 season set by ISU that judges shouldn't give 10s to performances with serious errors (which, lol, they don't actually define), I was thinking about the number of 10s given and how they would impact on the scoring. Usually, they don't because in these cases where 10s were given for performances with errors, most times it was only a single 10 in a specific PCS category and, as we know, the highest and lowest score are thrown out of the average. For example, Yuzu got three 10s in his GPF SP but they were each in a different category, so they had no impact on his final score since the highest score is thrown out. In the case of NHK 2016, he did get two 10s in his IN score, only one of which would have been thrown out. With the new rules, these two judges could, maybe, have given 9.75 instead of 10, and in the end, all else being equal, the difference in his IN score would have been 0.03 points (from 9.46 to 9.43). Of course, there's always that idea of strategic scoring and some judges might knowingly give scores they know will get thrown out of the average. I am curious about doing a similar table for the 2015/2016 season for comparison purposes. I know the floodgates on 10s began in NHK and spread to Worlds when Javi had his amazing FS, but it does seem to me that less 10s are being given for clean performances (Javi had 11 on his SP, Yuzu 12 on his FS) than the previous season and I wonder if it is because of the sudden influx of higher BV layouts and the perception on judges mind on that. Alternatively, it may just be because the judges are trying to equalize the top 6 in preparation for the Olympics and then open the floodgates on 10s in February. Edited to add 2015-2016 table. The difference is quite huge...

Yeah, pretty much. If the field is blank, it just automatically attributes a default title according to post count, but the default doesn't appear on Member Title. I assume it's because it's a different field or command in the forum code or something.

I guess there were only two real contestants for gold and silver then, so if they predicted gold for Yuzu, Patrick had to take silver. This Olympics, the podium is anyone's guess, really. I'd actually be happy with any iteration of the podium (with Yuzu for gold, of course), but I'm hoping for an uncles podium and the youngsters can fight for it at Worlds.
