Coach Mishin did the same with Plushenko when he was competing. In 2012, Pasquale Camerlengo choreographed Plushenko's SP, and Kenji Miyamoto choreographed R&J as his FP, but we didn't have a chance to see any of them because the coach didn't find them promising. Something similar happened for the next season as well. Some say Plushenko is always Plushenko, but I think it was partly because of coach Mishin's approach. My impression is that the coach has a strong opinion on what is a good program and doesn't sit back and wait for his students to find something new and make it theirs. What I find surprising is that Kolyada at 26 doesn’t have clue what he skates to. And doesn’t seem to have any ambitions to skate a program which would become his trademark program. Well, Plushenko was 29-30 at that time, although the relationship between him and the coach might have been a bit different from that of Misha and the coach. If Misha had an option to skate whatever he loved to skate he would have done so, and if he wholeheartedly agreed to his coach's choice, he would have reacted to the question differently. I guess he was trying not to lie to his feelings at that moment while respecting his coach's decision.

Melodie
Not the greatest first international outing for the season. For her own sake, I hope that this is only the first pancake (which is understandable, given how close the test skate and US Classic were, plus, she really drilled the jumps during practice). If it is not and this is an indication of what's to come, I hope she will rethink her jump layout and training regime. For comparison, she was only a couple of points ahead of the silver medalist, Yeonjeong Park from Korea, who did not attempt any quads or 3As at all but was clean and stunning. JanMary
Her 4F edge was called clean and ur on second 4Lz was ignored. 4S is also kind of q (not called). It is understandable she just competed in the test skate and there is jet lag and 5-quads layout is really really challenging, but many problems already exist in test skate. Landing all jumps doesn't mean the program is clean...and doesn't mean the program is good. Good luck to her and pray for fair judging (as always). I am mindblown, I would have sworn she had been in some challenger I guess that the messy past season is be to blame, she was competing internationally as Jr till 2019-20, so 2020-21 supposed to be her senior international debut... Paskud
le gasp Quote European and world ice dancing champions Viktoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov withdrew from the Russian Cup stage in Yoshkar-Ola due to a partner injury sustained in training. “Nikita's back was "torn off” today in training. So far, there can be no question of any recovery time and training. While he can’t even put on socks. We’ll come to Moscow and we’ll sort it out, ”Zhulin said. https://rsport.ria.ru/20211011/katsalapov-1754031329.html
