Look NHK, I get that you don't have that much information to work with. But you're doing a documentary, not a "stream of conscious" drama film. So please, at least keep the timeline somewhat more coherent?

I don't mind the media blackout, that's expected. But there are many ways of filling up content-interview Nobu, interview Honda, all of whom might be more willing to comment, and give insight on how skaters could come back from injury, explanations of quads etc. The problem with this documentary is, it's meandering, it seems to have no actual final purpose. If it was say, in parts and this is merely part X of X documentary series, I can understand a bit better about the lack of logic in the events timeline, but even then, it still lacks a clear logic per part.

 Like, if they had to:

Part 1: narrate his early years and his early competitive years, possibly even fill in a bit on the history of quad jumps. Get some narrator to read out his biography bits. And Yuzu's own words that he's staked his 18+ years of training for this.

Part 2: a short timeline of Yuzu's early senior competitions, if you want to go for the injury angle you could document about tohoku's impact, then all the various injuries he's had, and how he's COME BACK from each injury. Plus Yuzu himself has interviews recently where he gives insights to his injuries. Get a narrator, and you can do all that with existing footage and no need to disturb him.  You could even detail his impact post Sochi win, and his goal to continue. Add in commentators of how rare that is for athletes to continue-and you can interview known ones, like Matsuoka, Nobu etc.

Part 3: cut to present. Detail his summer training, his interview where he reveals the lutz. Cut in some footage of younger rivals. Then go with the NHK injury and withdrawl. But to juxaposition that, the negativity, you can interview Nobu, Matsuoka etc about how Yuzu doesn't give up. End with his letter and bam.

 

You're welcome NHK. And sorry that I had higher expectations.

I wanted Yuzu to win OGM again because he's my fave but NOW I really wish him to win it, because I feel like it'd be the best, most 'fuck-you' end to this season's narrative.

Yes NTV was way better lol we got our hopes up too high for this one 

I don’t think it was terrible. They didn’t really have a choice - secrets of national security were at stake! We just got our hopes up, is all. Take away expectations and it was... well, it was a bit average, wasn’t it?

I'm VERY disappointed in NHK

It's ok to show nhk and the fall, it makes all more apparent what kind of mountain Yuzu got to climb these past months...but the whole "in the meanwhile his competitors are doing great" (which is not necessarily that true) really leaves a bitter taste. Heck, I thought this doc could be a lifesaver till next week, but it feels more as if they were just saying bye bye and watching you drown

(and by the way, I understand the Shoma hype, but why do they like Nathan so much? Did they like Patrick that much in the quad after Vancouver? )

yes, I guess we expected anything but this two days before Olympics. 

 

And the problem is not the lack of footage, but the story itself.
