I have wasted almost all my day at work just to be so dissappointed and sad. I'll try to calm down listening to Chopin Concerto No1 and hoping Yuzu will skate to it some day .

I'm listening to assassin's tango and trying to see Yuzu skate to it. =)

I guess my expectation got lowered significantly after reading all of your comments here, so...Planet Hanyu to the rescue once again for me :thanks:

I actually loved the extended footage for NHK treatment (I'm a masochist now, thanks, Yuzu), because it has showed that Yuzuru knew right away that something was messed up. Rest of review under a spoiler, because I don't want to torture anybody unnecessarily.

Spoiler

I'm not a lip-reader, but between all the sighs you just could read all the 'Yabai, itai's he was uttering to himself. Then he was muttering some stuff I was too cared to assume I understand any of it (his lips moved as if he was rescheduling something-ON THE ICE, BEFORE HE ASKED FOR THE CHECK, so it's either that he was already expecting need to lower layout, analysing WHAT could be hurting there-he knows anatomy, just a reminder- or already sketching alternate plan in his head. Ok, knowing Yuzu, it was all of the above. Also, not very reassuring, but during the lacing scene, it was sweat, even sb from his team asked if he was fine with not wiping it, and you know he wouldn't let anybody see his tears.) Then, before going off the ice, he and Kikuchi consult the treatment, and he DO admits the ankle is stiff. (compare it to 15/16 Nats footage and 'Injury? What injury, I'm absolutely fine I just need to train!' T.T) Boya grows up!!

Still, a bit much is sacrificed to Shoma and Nathan. Back when it was Yuzu vs Patrick, they gave Chan max 3 minutes then went on to tech talk...now I need to check it out again to confirm, lol.

The letter should be given his own Kiritoru segment tbh, to freaking show how, even with media blackout, Yuzuru times his messages so that the TV stations have just enough time to implement them into their footage (remember NNN?), and not enough time for them to become old news. Just freaking management alien, I have hard time sending all my assignments before the deadline...

So, I don't find any fertilizer in there, but I guess this cacti sustain itself on the thought of 後1週間ぐらいと彼を見える。Super mantra, I tell you.

Just judging by the title, I find it more fitting for Yuzu right now. *goes of to refresh her classical playlist*

Other than title fitting...it's about 4 mins long, is a nice crisp tango (that one day I hope he could perform) and definitely not "roooOOOXaanne!"

Nice timing, he might have just single handedly saved the NHK offices from being pitchforked.

Think NTV was better.

I don't mind the media blackout, that's expected. But there are many ways of filling up content-interview Nobu, interview Honda, all of whom might be more willing to comment, and give insight on how skaters could come back from injury, explanations of quads etc. The problem with this documentary is, it's meandering, it seems to have no actual final purpose. If it was say, in parts and this is merely part X of X documentary series, I can understand a bit better about the lack of logic in the events timeline, but even then, it still lacks a clear logic per part.

 Like, if they had to:

Part 1: narrate his early years and his early competitive years, possibly even fill in a bit on the history of quad jumps. Get some narrator to read out his biography bits. And Yuzu's own words that he's staked his 18+ years of training for this.

Part 2: a short timeline of Yuzu's early senior competitions, if you want to go for the injury angle you could document about tohoku's impact, then all the various injuries he's had, and how he's COME BACK from each injury. Plus Yuzu himself has interviews recently where he gives insights to his injuries. Get a narrator, and you can do all that with existing footage and no need to disturb him.  You could even detail his impact post Sochi win, and his goal to continue. Add in commentators of how rare that is for athletes to continue-and you can interview known ones, like Matsuoka, Nobu etc.

Part 3: cut to present. Detail his summer training, his interview where he reveals the lutz. Cut in some footage of younger rivals. Then go with the NHK injury and withdrawl. But to juxaposition that, the negativity, you can interview Nobu, Matsuoka etc about how Yuzu doesn't give up. End with his letter and bam.

You're welcome NHK. And sorry that I had higher expectations. :13877886:

How I wish you were the one producing this nhk document.. see how awesome and positive it could have been if they only have someone who knows how to make GOOD TV and actually wants to support this hero combating injury and trying to make a comeback? The shortage of footage is NOT an excuse!:angrypooh::knc_brian3:

Um, actually if we consider time, I think I can forgive them. It's just a suggestion, small one, if they ever have time to do a full documentary. Though I think if they had more time, they will do well.

is there something wrong with me if it didn't make me angry? >_>

I'm less annoyed now that I understand my lack of Japanese knowledge allied to the footage and tone of the video (plus commentary here) tainted it initially for me. Others have now explained a bit how some of the things presented weren't as aggravating as I first thought. Still, aside from the extended injury footage and end message, there was really nothing new and the padding necessary to fill the time of the documentary didn't endear it much to people.

It seems those who understand no Japanese were angry, those who understand some Japanese weren't angry, and those who understand all the Japanese were angry as well.  I can't work it out.

Those who understand some might just be so hungry for positives that they filled in all the blanks with positive stuff, and the things they understood were enough to confirm their beliefs, most likely :rofl:In other words, we're doing the same as US PR machine, only with a program...

I don't recall seeing him cry. I saw him drippy but not crying. At least, I thought it was just drippy. Did I miss something?
