1am for me.  Luckily ours is a tall thin house and the tv is in a room in the cellar (all the better to noise proof the football fans for most of the year) so no one will hear me yell, should yelling be necessary - though I might end up yelling at the commentators if 4CC is anything to go by.

This is a bit OT to the Team Event but...

Seeing the increasingly wild headlines on Nathan's undefeated season and the OGM being his to lose can be annoying but are actually more worrying; the expectations are growing so incredibly high from so many sources that I'm not sure how bad it can be if he fails to live to them even a bit? What if he gets a silver or a bronze? Will he have failed? Much like apparently some thought his FS at Nationals was disappointing because of his lack of 4Lz even though he landed 5 quads? I wish with all my heart for Yuzuru to win, of course, because he is my favorite, but at the moment I'm not sure if it'll be harder to live with US media if Nathan wins than with it if he loses...

4 am and I'm going to sleep it through peacefully  I just made Eurosport subscription so I'll have a quick accesses to the replays (hope they will have them for Olys events) cuz I still want to watch it before going to a work and checking any news.

For me, it will be about the same. US media is an annoyance. It only annoys me when I let it.

 

I, too, am rooting for Yuzu to win. As for Chen, I just hope he doesn't crumble badly underneath all those pressures.

If he doesn't win gold US media will move swiftly on to the skier/snowboarder/ice hockey etc.who does-  I'm sure USA will have loads of medals across the disciplines.  I wonder whether he will stay with skating win or lose - he's not as fixated on it as some we could mention and either success or failure could turn him aside to something else.

of course it would be harder if Nathan wins ... just imagine the headlines - Chen upsets reigning World and Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu, Chen jumped 5 different quads, while Yuzuru Hanyu only jumped 4 etc. etc. the talk about Nathan's artistry and transistions, it would be unbearable ...

 

no matter what, Nathan is going to go home with a bronze medal from the team event, I wish he can build on that and grow as a skater, and stay in the sport for another 4 years.

Yeah, you're right and as @Sombreuil said, they'll probably move on to some other winners anyway if he doesn't get OGM.

I would like that too but neither he nor Shoma are showing any signs of it - it's push the tech, abandon the rest rather than back off and work on the whole picture.  Fernandez was right when he remarked that he and Yuzuru didn't just add quads without working on stabilising and integrating them first - which is probably the thing for which I'm most thankful to the TCC team.  So Shoma messes with his blades and Nathan blames his boots, and powerful federations that should be encouraging them to do it properly encourage them to cut corners by throwing their weight at the judging system to ensure they get the marks.  ( I'm not sure whether it's possible to get rid of bad habits after a certain point.). The one who doesn't get the handouts? He's working on his transitions etc rather than more jumps.

I agree with everything you said, but I still have hope ... this is the olympic season, maybe they'll work on their shortcomings after the Olympics ... Yuzuru, Javi and Patrick have set the example, that it's possible to incorporate quads with artistry, attention to detail, interpretation and investment into the music and program. Maybe everything will turn out well ...

I'm trying to not let the American media influence what I think and want and all (although it's not easy to be honest xD), but I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Nathan. How tough must it be to have all that pressure heaped unto you when you are so young, in your first Olympics? Honestly the media need to get themselves in check for his sake most of all, opening their mouths so wide might only make that "obvious win" less likely. Yuzu will still be the one to have to face the most pressure, he always is, but Nathan is in a tough spot too.

It's always interesting to see the rivals competing 

I'll definitely not catch the men's event but as I've had a tendency to wake way too early sometimes, maybe I'll catch some of the pairs.
