And it's a good thing he isn't going to the Oly Ceremony. Why didn't the IOC press for a closed stadium knowing it was going to be that cold??? 

I know I wouldn't wanna be in the cold air for 3 hrs while my toes and hands go numb and risk frostbite/hypothermia.

OT but Noriaki Kasai arrived in Korea, too! 

 

As we were talking earlier about the TCC coaches order of arrival, Tracy posted on instagram that she can't wait to go to Pyeongchang, therefore confirming she's not there yet. Which we pretty much knew, but it's confirmed now. She didn't say when she's going, though.

 

As for the issues... I remember all sorts of rumors about Sochi, but I had expected Pyeongchang to be better... I'm sure it is hard to control everything when you're essentially creating a small town from scratch, but if it's like this now, how is it going to be when all the athletes and team staff are there?

I heard rumors from skating mates that essentially, mid way while constructing the stadium, the organizers in SK ran out of funds?

I really wonder when the IOC will be more discretionary about selecting places to hold the Olympics. It reminds me of  several  articles talking  about how many of these olympic sites (some IOC official termed them "White Elephants"), usually end up being empty husks and somewhat of a monument to financial waste. At least maybe in the future try finding places that already have existing venues instead of building places from scratch that will be torn down in 10 yrs.

Tokyo has a bucket load of venues, even an Olympic stadium, and instead of just putting extra temporary seating they demolished the stadium, raized a bunch of trees, and blew the budget. The whole thing is always an economic and environmental disaster and if this miracle child wasn’t involved I’d switch right off. 

 

(Then there’s Beijing and the artificial snow they’ll be using! Ridiculous!)

OT too-the problem is due to costs and some of the stipulations in the contracts, few of the naturally endowed countries are willing to host.

I'm not sure if artificial snow is going to be needed, since Beijing as a city is just..expanding year by year. Greater Beijing is huge, and the government can always just circle in more suburbs if they want (what is current Beijing encompasses several cities, and from circle 5 to the center of the city is a good 20-30 KM at least). Pretty sure that things will start moving this summer, I think they already started eyeing factories and forcing some of the heavy industry ones to shut down and move far far away.

I keep hearing Calgary is thinking about 2026... considering how successful they were, and some facilities are still in decent shape, I hope they go for it.
