More hype! http://olympics.nbcsports.com/2017/10/16/yuzuru-hanyu-nathan-chen-yevgenia-medvedeva-rostelecom-cup-preview/amp/

(Lol at the picture - silver medalist Hanyu, just more reason to fire him up)

As a new fan of Hanyu and this being my first time following him for a season, I thought my nervousness was A level at ACI but this...this is a new monster. As the day draws nearer, I'm going to gnaw my fingers off for sure. Been trying to keep my mind elsewhere and occupied with the new?(maybe) ex or mundane stuff like costumes but eeek!

"This season, Hanyu has already looked vulnerable. He broke his world-record short program score at a small event in Canada last month. But then he struggled with jumps throughout his fifth-place free skate and ended up second behind Spaniard Javier Fernández, reportedly slowed by a knee injury."

How dare you NBC...

I really don't want to see any arrival news right now...I am scared and pretend CoR is still far away...

OMG how dare they!!!

WR was in a small event so it doesnt matter..

But the FS where he struggled was ominous and sign of the season??

What logic???

Marin Honda is one of Medvedeva’s biggest threats?!!!!

I don't think this kind of hype do Marin any good.

And they mentioned Wakaba as "also in the field"... IDK about NBC but she's definitely a strong medal contender to my opinion.

Maybe because Marin beat both Americans - Karen and Mirai at US Classic. Either way, I feel like it's just sloppy journalism....

The propaganda logic.

Guys, you're putting words in their mouth. They didn't say the SP record doesn't matter.

I don't see what they said as propaganda that much - more of a drama building. Frankly, if I were an American broadcaster about to broadcast Rostelecom and wanted people to wach it, I'd go the "the champion is not undefeatable and our American young maveric does have a chance!" route too. And if Yuzu wins, it'll be excellent "overcoming difficulties" narrative.

It all doesn't matter anyway because what NBC says doesn't influence Yuzu's skating and I seriously doubt it influences judges at Rostelecom. It's all up to Yuzu.

Just discovered that Eurosport UK will cover the mens SP live on Friday (12-13:30) :smiley_hairpull: (should I come home from work at lunchtime to watch or chicken out like I usually do :P), with several repeats later, but will only show 30 min of the mens FS on Sunday night at 22:00, before showing the Gala.  Only other coverage is the womens FS.  Guess I should be grateful :sigh: that they'll show the most important parts as far as I'm concerned, and relieved, but I was hoping  to see more coverage.  Lots of snooker though :yucky:---sorry any snooker fans out there!

Preview of the men's skaters at COR and also what's at stake (finally not just on Hanyu and Nathan for once): http://www.rockerskating.com/news/2017/10/16/2017-rostelecom-cup-preview-men-high-stakes-at-the-first-grand-prix

GOLD Yuzuru Hanyu JPN - Skating observers know that early season success is not something that Hanyu is necessarily familiar with (or perhaps even care about). His eyes are on the Olympics, and everything else is just practice for him at this point. That said, he has to know that there are skaters making improvements and breathing down his neck, so there's a bit more at stake than usual at this first Grand Prix event. At Autumn Classic, Hanyu skated yet another magical short program, only to be undone by a messy free skate to finish behind Javier Fernandez. He's got Chen to battle here, and will need to take a step up to stay ahead.

@Ladysci

Really annoying isn't it?  I subscribed to the Eurosport player last January on a reduced subscription offer because I realised I would be away from home for 4CC and Euros and it's been very useful - shows everything (so far) - and as long as you're in Europe with a wifi connection it works well. Of course watching on a tablet/laptop isn't as good as on a big TV screen but it's better than missing it.
